Since the discovery of the perilymphatic fistula (PLF), the diagnosis and treatment remain controversial. If successfully recognized, the PLF is surgically repairable with an obliteration of the fistula site. Successful treatment has a major impact on patient's quality of life with an improvement in their audiological and vestibular symptoms.

Metanephric adenoma diagnosed on biopsy in an infant: a case report.

Background: Metanephric adenoma is a rare benign renal tumor of the kidney, uncommonly observed in children. Study of Methylene Blue Ototoxicity in the Guinea Pig.

Background: Methylene blue is widely used in the medical field, especially as a blue dye for staining. It is also used as a photosensitizing agent in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, which once photoactivated is effective for the eradication of several multi-resistant bacteria. The objective of this study was to investigate the ototoxic potential of methylene blue and precise its use in otology.

Mesenteric cyst in infancy: presentation and management.

Mesenteric cysts are documented as a rare entity in pediatric population. They are considered as benign intra-abdominal tumors with an unknown etiology. Symptoms are not specific and knowledge of such condition is essential in order to establish a proper management.

Right Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Associated With Hepatic Pulmonary Fusion: A Case Report.

We present a case of male newborn presented with respiratory distress at 21 hours of life. The patient was operated for right congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Hepatic pulmonary fusion (HPF) was found at surgery.

Primary Transanal Management of Rectal Atresia in a Neonate.

Rectal atresia (RA) with a normal anus is a rare anomaly. We describe a case of rectal atresia in a newborn male presenting with an abdominal distension and failure of passing meconium. The rectal atresia was primarily operated by transanal route.

Intratympanic steroid injection as a salvage treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of intratympanic methylprednisolone injections for treating sudden sensorineural hearing loss.

Method: A retrospective chart review was performed to identify patients suffering from sudden sensorineural hearing loss with no recovery after oral steroids. Patients were given up to three intratympanic methylprednisolone injections at one-week intervals.

Pain assessment of the intratympanic injections: a prospective comparative study.

The objective of the study is to compare the pain level of three methods of intratympanic (IT) injections using prospective, randomized clinical study in a tertiary care center. 39 patients with Ménière's disease and 30 patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss are included. Excluded were patients treated for a chronic pain or those who took any pain killer for the last 24 h.

A novel fuzzy C-means algorithm for unsupervised heterogeneous tumor quantification in PET.

Purpose: Accurate and robust image segmentation was identified as one of the most challenging issues facing PET quantification in oncological imaging. This difficulty is compounded by the low spatial resolution and high noise characteristics of PET images. The fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering algorithm was largely used in various medical image segmentation approaches.

Neurological complications in insufficiency fractures of the sacrum. Three case-reports.

Three cases of nerve root compromise in elderly women with insufficiency fractures of the sacrum are reported. Neurological compromise is generally felt to be exceedingly rare in this setting. A review of 493 cases of sacral insufficiency fractures reported in the literature suggested an incidence of about 2%.

[Cancer of the cervix uteri in Tunisia. Clinical presentation and development over a 10-year period].

Carcinoma of the cervix is still common in Tunisia, where it occupies second place among malignant diseases in women. Accounting for 17% of the female population of the National Cancer Institute of Tunis, it is preceded only by breast cancer (27%). Study of the factors concurrent with the origin of carcinoma of the uterine cervix seems to indicate that its decrease is secondary to the lowered average age at marriage, to the fall in the reproduction rate among the population at large, and to improved socio-economic conditions among the poorer classes.
