Context: Research shows hospice primary caregivers report better quality of care at Non-Profit (NP) than For-Profit (FP) hospices, but there is variation in quality across NP hospices.
Objective: Examine bereaved caregiver reports of the quality as a factor of whether NP hospices are part of an integrated healthcare system that included an acute care hospital.
Methods: Cross-sectional study of NP Hospices used star ratings and adjusted hospice composite quality scores May 2023 publicly data reported on the Care Compare website.

The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and the stringent health measures put in place may have increased the burden for those living with MCS, as it became more challenging to avoid chemicals that trigger their condition.
Objective: This study aimed to better understand the lived experience of Canadians living with MCS during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews with 38 people with mild cognitive impairment or dementia and 62 care partners who experienced the disclosure of results from an amyloid PET scan as part of the CARE-IDEAS study. We used thematic analysis to analyze interview transcripts.

The Caregiver's Reactions and Experience (CARE) study, an IDEAS supplement, aimed to understand experiences of PET scan recipients and their care partners regarding motivations for scans, reporting and interpreting results, and impact of results. Patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia who agreed to join the CARE-IDEAS study and their care partners participated in a baseline survey and follow-up survey approximately 18 months later, supplemented by in-depth qualitative interviews with subsets of participants.

There is substantial global variation in home death percentages but it is unclear whether these differences reflect preferences, and there are major limitations in how the place of death is classified and compared across countries.
Objectives: EOLinPLACE is an international interdisciplinary research project funded by the European Research Council aiming to create a solid base for a ground-breaking international classification tool that will enable the mapping of preferred and actual places towards death.
Background: Elevated amyloid-β (Aβ) on positron emission tomography (PET) scan is used to aid diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but many prior studies have focused on patients with a typical AD phenotype such as amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Little is known about whether elevated Aβ on PET scan predicts rate of cognitive and functional decline among those with MCI or dementia that is clinically less typical of early AD, thus leading to etiologic uncertainty.
Objective: We aimed to investigate whether elevated Aβ on PET scan predicts cognitive and functional decline over an 18-month period in those with MCI or dementia of uncertain etiology.
Background: Hypertension awareness and control are understudied among older adults in middle-income countries, with limited work contextualizing awareness and control across layers of influence (individual to the community). Research on hypertension in Latin America is acknowledged as insufficient.
Objectives: This study applies the socioecological model (SEM) to examine individual, interpersonal, institutional, and community factors related to hypertension awareness and control in older adults residing in Brazil and Colombia.
Background: The Imaging Dementia Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) study reports that amyloid PET scans help providers diagnose and manage Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). Using CARE-IDEAS, an IDEAS supplemental study, we examined the association between amyloid PET scan result (elevated or non-elevated amyloid), patient characteristics, and participant healthcare utilization.

Background: Assisted living (AL) is an increasingly common, place of care for dying persons. However, it remains unclear to what extent residents are able to age in place or if AL represents an additional transition before death.
Objectives: Examine the sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidities, health care utilization, and end-of-life care pathways of AL residents before death.
Pathological disorders can alter the mechanical properties of biological tissues, and studying such changes can help to better understand the disease progression. The prostate gland is no exception, as previous studies have shown that cancer can affect its mechanical properties. However, most of these studies have focused on the elastic properties of the tissue and have overlooked the impact of cancer on its viscous response.
