Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how thrombolytic therapy and endovascular thrombectomy affect certain blood markers related to brain damage in patients who had an acute ischemic stroke.
  • Results showed significant changes in S100B and thiol levels in the thrombolytic therapy group, indicating a potential reduction in brain injury, whereas the levels of disulfide and ischemia-modified albumin didn't significantly change.
  • The findings emphasize the need for further research to explore treatments that mitigate free radical damage during stroke recovery.

Background: The incidence of rectal cancer is increasing in the elderly population, yet the safety of surgical interventions in this group, particularly robotic surgery, is still debated. This study aims to investigate the safety and short-term postoperative outcomes of robotic surgery in geriatric patients (aged ≥ 70 years) with rectal cancer.

Patients: Patients diagnosed with rectal cancer and undergoing robotic surgery between March 2021 and September 2023 were divided into two groups based on age: the elderly group (aged ≥ 70 years) and the younger group (aged < 70 years), totaling 108 patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Therapeutic plasma exchange is an established treatment that improves neurological symptoms by removing antibodies in patients with autoimmune neurological diseases, as shown through an 11-year study.
  • The study reviewed data from 265 patients who underwent 1,274 plasma exchange procedures, mostly for conditions like Guillain-Barré syndrome and myasthenia gravis, revealing an overall response rate of 81.3%.
  • The treatment was considered safe, with only minor complications like manageable allergic reactions and one serious case of hypertensive crisis, indicating a favorable side effect profile.

Background And Objectives: The association between prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and probability of metastatic disease on prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has not yet been established in patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer (PCa). Our objective was to assess the probability of metastatic disease within different PSA ranges using PSMA PET/CT for initial staging of PCa, and to identify both the anatomical distribution and the predictors of metastases on PSMA PET/CT.

Methods: In total, 2193 patients with newly diagnosed PCa were retrospectively studied.

Especially in recent years, temporal muscle thickness has been used as an important parameter for sarcopenia in neurological disorders. In addition, triglyceride glucose index was evaluated separately in studies conducted in terms of coronary diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, body mass index and acute stroke. In this clinical study, unlike the others, both temporal muscle thickness and triglyceride glucose index were evaluated together in acute stroke patients in terms of sarcopenia.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the correlation between the presence of microsatellite instability (MSI) and tumor budding, as well as their relationship with histopathological parameters in patients diagnosed with colorectal adenocarcinoma.

Patients And Methods: The study encompassed patients who underwent curative surgery to treat colorectal cancer. These patients were classified into groups based on their MSI status.

Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are highly versatile markers in genetic diversity analysis and plant breeding, making them widely applicable. They hold potential in lentil () breeding for genetic diversity analysis, marker-assisted selection (MAS), and linkage mapping. However, the availability and diversity of SSR markers in lentil is limited.

Numerous studies have shown that under a limited water supply, a larger root biomass is associated with an increased above-ground biomass. Root biomass, while genetically controlled, is also greatly affected by the environment with varying plasticity levels. In this context, understanding the relationship between the biomass of shoots and roots appears prudent.

Aims: This study was conducted to determine the risk perceptions of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) regarding insulin therapy and diabetes complications.

Background: Self-care behaviour is an important requirement for managing T2DM, and risk perceptions are thought to play a key role in this behavioural process. It is predicted that an accurate risk perception will contribute to diabetes management and the reduction in diabetes-related complications.

Purpose: The negative influence of perioperative transfusion of packed red blood cells on the prognosis of various malignancies is the focus of recent research interest. The development of a propensity score for the prediction of perioperative transfusion of packed red blood cells (pRBCs) and the identification of independent risk factors for survival, that can either be known prior to or during surgery in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic head cancer are the two objectives of this study.

Methods: Logistic regression analyses and Cox regression modeling were used to identify independent risk factors for perioperative transfusion of pRBCs and to determine individual risk factors for patient survival.

The goal of this study was to biomechanically and morphologically research both the impact of mobile phone like radiofrequency radiations (RFR) on the tibia and the effects on skeletal muscle through oxidative stress parameters. Fifty-six rats (200-250 g) were put into groups: healthy sham (n = 7), healthy RFR (900, 1800, 2100 MHz) (n = 21), diabetic sham (n = 7) and diabetic RFR (900, 1800, 2100 MHz) (n = 21). Over a month, each group spent two hours/day in a Plexiglas carousel.

Purpose: PET with 16α-[18F]-fluoro-17β-estradiol ([18F]FES) allows assessment of whole body estrogen receptor (ER) expression. The aim of this study was to investigate [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) and [18F]FES PET/CT imaging for response prediction and monitoring of drug activity in patients with metastatic ER-positive breast cancer undergoing treatment with the selective estrogen receptor downregulator (SERD) rintodestrant.

Experimental Design: In this trial (NCT03455270), PET/CT imaging was performed at baseline ([18F]FDG and [18F]FES), during treatment and at time of progression (only [18F]FES).
