Effect of molecular weight of tyramine-modified hyaluronan on polarization state of THP-1 and peripheral blood mononuclear cells-derived macrophages.

The immunomodulatory properties of hyaluronan and its derivatives are key to their use in medicine and tissue engineering. In this work we evaluated the capability of soluble tyramine-modified hyaluronan (THA) synthesized from hyaluronan of two molecular weights (low M = 280 kDa and high M = 1640 kDa) for polarization of THP-1 and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)-derived macrophages (MΦs). We demonstrate the polarization effects of the supplemented THA by flow cytometry and bead-based multiplex immunoassay for the THP-1 derived MΦs and by semi-automated image analysis from confocal microscopy, immunofluorescent staining utilizing CD68 and CD206 surface markers, RT-qPCR gene expression analysis, as well as using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for PBMCs-derived MΦs.

Objectives: Inflammatory endothelial activation is a prominent feature of vascular involvement in Behçet's disease (BD), which is usually accompanied by a thrombotic tendency. Recent studies suggest an association between ABO blood groups and thrombotic vascular disease in those carrying non-O (A, B, and AB) groups. This study aimed to analyse the contribution of ABO blood groups to the vascular involvement in BD.

Effect of the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound therapy on healing of Achilles tendinopathy in a rat model.

Objective:  This study aimed to investigate the effect of the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on the healing of Achilles tendinopathy in a rat model induced by type 1 collagenase.

Methods:  The study was conducted on 144 Achilles tendons of 72 Wistar albino female rats with typical activity and weighing 300-350 g. The model of Achilles tendinopathy was created by injecting type 1 collagenase.

Background: The aim of our study was to investigate the impact of curfews imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic on emergency department visits, orthopedic trauma frequencies, and types of trauma.

Methods: In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, a total of 16,242 patients, including 3,020 trauma patients, were admitted to level 1 trauma center emergency department between April-June 2020 and 2021 (curfew group) and between April-June 2018 and 2019 (control group). Evaluation of natural gum-based cryogels for soft tissue engineering.

In this study, three natural biomaterials, Locust bean gum (LBG), Xanthan gum (XG), and Mastic gum (MG), were combined to form cryogel scaffolds. Thermal and chemical characterizations revealed the successful blend formation from LBG-XG (LX) and LBG-XG-MG (LXM) polymers. Methods: Six women with acromegaly who became pregnant under follow-up between 2010 and 2014 and their 16 children (group A) were assessed and compared with 16 children of healthy women (group B) and 15 children of women with prolactinoma (group C).
