The Effect of Melatonin on Anxiety and Pain of Tourniquet in Intravenous Regional Anesthesia.

Background: Melatonin has anxiolytic and potential analgesic effects. Several studies have indicated the sedative and anti-anxiety effects of melatonin when used as premedication before surgery. Hence, we assessed the efficacy of melatonin premedication in tourniquet-related pain and analgesia in patients receiving intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA).

Comparison of the Effects of Thoracic Epidural Anesthesia with General Anesthesia on Hemodynamic Changes and its Complications in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.

Background: Epidural anesthesia (EA) today has been used extensively in surgical procedures and the management of pain associated with midwifery and chronic pain. This type of anesthesia can be done in different technical, physiological, and pharmacological ways. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of thoracic EA with general anesthesia (GA) on hemodynamic changes and its complications in patients underwent laparoscopic colonoscopy.

The effects of magnesium sulphate on succinylcholine-induced fasciculation during induction of general anaesthesia.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of magnesium sulphate on succinylcholine-induced fasciculation in patients during the induction of general anaesthesia.

Methods: The double-blind randomised clinical trial was conducted in 2012 at Tohid and Besat Hospitals in Sanandaj, Iran, on patients who were candidates for surgery under general anaesthesia. Patients were selected and divided into two equal groups of cases and controls using block randomisation.

The chemokine receptor CXCR4 is associated with the staging of gastric cancer.

Background: CXCR4 is a cognitive receptor for stromal-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) and has been previously shown to be associated with tumor growth and invasion of many cancers. However, its expression and function in gastric cancer has not been well clarified.

Materials And Methods: Herein, we studied the expression of CXCR4 on gastric samples from patients with gastric adenocarcinoma in comparison with precancerous lesions by employing qRT-PCR.

The laryngeal mask airway for difficult airway in temporomandibular joint ankylosis--a case report.

Patients with Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis are among difficult airways and anesthesia and airway management of these patients encounter anesthesiologists with challenge. Herein we report a case of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis with difficult ventilation after failed attempts to intubate with fibroptic broncoscopy a disposable Laryngeal Mask Airway reestablishes the ventilation. The case suggests that the disposable Laryngeal Mask Airway may be useful in airway management of patients with a Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis.

Comparing the effects of epidural methylprednisolone acetate injected in patients with pain due to lumbar spinal stenosis or herniated disks: a prospective study.

Objective: Satisfactory results have been seen with epidural steroid injections (ESI) in patients with herniated disks (HD), but the role in lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) has been less investigated. We compared long-term effects of ESI in HD and LSS patients.

Methods: In a prospective, single-blind uncontrolled study, 60 patients with radicular pain due to HD (n = 32) or LSS (n = 28) were enrolled over a 9-month period.

Shortening anesthesia duration does not affect severity of withdrawal syndrome in patients undergoing ultra rapid opioid detoxification.

Ultra rapid opioid detoxification (UROD) is one of the new methods of detoxification. This method of detoxification involves putting patients under general anesthesia and actively giving them opioid antagonists. The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of anesthesia duration in UROD on severity of withdrawal syndrome.
