This study investigates the treatment of oil-contaminated wastewater with high levels of inorganic substances, suspended solids and turbidity, collected from the Haldia industrial region of India in February 2023. The wastewater, originating from industries such as chemical, petrochemical, textile, and battery manufacturing, presents a complex pollutant load that challenges traditional treatment methods. Electrocoagulation was employed as the treatment technique, with process optimization conducted using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and central composite design (CCD) for key parameters: pH, initial oil concentration, current density, and electrolysis time.

In the industrial sector, understanding the behavior of block copolymers in supercritical solvents is crucial. While qualitative agreement with polymer solubility curves has been evaluated using complex theoretical models in many cases, quantitative predictions remain challenging. This study aimed to create a rapid and accurate artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict the lower critical solubility and upper critical solubility space of an atypical block copolymer, poly(styrene--octafluoropentyl methacrylate) (PSOM), in different supercritical solvent systems over a wide range of temperatures (51.

Purpose: We constructed a clinical clue-based algorithm to identify the microbiology-positive post-cataract surgery endophthalmitis.

Methods: The Endophthalmitis Infectivity Measurement Algorithm (EIMA) was constructed using presenting Snellen vision (Letter score [LS]) and Inflammation Score (IS, from the cornea, anterior chamber, iris, and vitreous). Retrospective data (70% for training; 30% for testing) was fitted into CHAID (Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection).

In 1987, Won invented the solid-phase porous microsphere (MS), which stores bioactive compounds in many interconnected voids. Spherical particles (5-300 μm), MS, may form clusters of smaller spheres, resulting in many benefits. The current investigation focussed on gel-encased formulation, which can be suitable for dermal usage.

The dispersed-phase polymerization of poly(styrene--2,2,3,4,4,4-octafluoropentyl methacrylate), also known as p(styrene--OFPMA), took place in supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-CO). The chemical and physical properties of p(styrene--OFPMA) were studied by varying the styrene-to-OFPMA ratios (40:1, 30:1, and 20:1) and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) initiator amounts (wt %: 1.0, 2.

Purpose: To describe a potential biomarker termed as inner choroidal fibrosis in cases of chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) presenting to a tertiary referral center.

Design: Observational case series.

Methods: Five eyes of 4 patients with CSCR were noted to have a gray-white subretinal lesion in the macula, which was analyzed with multimodal imaging.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to evaluate antibiotic susceptibility in endophthalmitis cases from the Endophthalmitis Management Study (EMS) and compare it with the current practices of Indian vitreoretinal specialists.
  • Methods included microbiological analyses like microscopy, culture-susceptibility testing, PCR, and NGS, with significant results defined as p < 0.05.
  • Results indicated that gram-positive cocci (GPC) were mostly susceptible to vancomycin and gram-negative bacilli (GNB) to colistin; VRSI members primarily preferred using a combination of vancomycin and ceftazidime for treatment.

Purpose: To study intravitreal brolucizumab in the management of persistent macular fluid in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) without choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM).

Methods: Retrospective case series which included eyes with chronic CSCR with persistent macular fluid for ≥ 3 months without CNVM. Intravitreal brolucizumab was administered in all eyes.

Purpose: We aim to report the natural course of non-center involving diabetic macular edema (NCIDME) progression to center involving diabetic macular edema (CIDME) and associated risk factors.

Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective comparative study. Data was collected from electronic medical records from 8 centers in India covering.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine if an inflammation score (IS) from eye structures could indicate the severity of endophthalmitis in patients after cataract surgery.
  • In a controlled trial, 175 adults diagnosed with endophthalmitis received different treatments based on their inflammation scores and underwent comprehensive microbiological testing, revealing key correlations between high IS and worse patient outcomes.
  • Findings showed that higher IS was linked to more severe endophthalmitis, including faster symptom onset and a higher likelihood of Gram-negative infections, while two-thirds of patients improved vision post-treatment.

Purpose: To analyze the outcome of intervention versus observation for vitreous cavity hemorrhage occurring after a 2-month period of blood-free cavity (late postoperative vitreous cavity hemorrhage-POVCH) in eyes operated by vitrectomy for complications of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).

Methods: This study was a 10-year retrospective, observational, multi-center study involving eight major vitreoretinal surgical centers across India from January 2010 to December 2019. The primary objective of the study was to assess the visual and clinical outcomes of various management approaches for late POVCH.

Purpose: To study the acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) management strategies practiced at a tertiary eye care center in eastern India.

Methods: In a retrospective chart review study, the clinical outcomes of three different management approaches to treating acute CSC were analyzed. Individuals with follow-ups of fewer than 6 months were excluded.

A woman in her 60s presented with vision blur in both eyes, a year post-radiotherapy for oral cancer. The best corrected visual acuity was 20/40 in both eyes. Posterior segment examination was remarkable for a unilateral intervortex venous anastomosis in choroid in her right eye, on the side of her face that had received radiation.

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to estimate the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in India's urban and rural areas. Medline, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases were searched for population-based studies published in English between January 1990 and April 2021, wherein the prevalence of DR among Indian residents with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) was reported. A random-effects model was used to estimate the overall, rural, and urban prevalence.
