The mechanism for the dual emission of 2-(4'-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine (DMAPIP-c) in protic solvents was investigated by synthesizing and studying its analogues. Theoretical calculations were carried out to corroborate the experimental findings. The deprotonation studies suggest that the enhancement in the TICT emission of anionic forms of DMAPIP-c is limited to a protic environment.

In this work, we have designed a photonic-metamaterial based broadband circular polarizer using N=4 phase-lagged aluminum single helices arranged in a square array as a unit cell. The effect of phase differences between the helices in an array on the optical performance of the structure is studied, and a comparative study is done with that of multi-intertwined helices. It is observed that the proposed metamaterial structure shows circular polarization sensitivity over a broad optical wavelength range (≈450-900  nm), with improved optical performance in average extinction ratio and broad positive circular dichroism in comparison to multiple intertwined helices.

An intensive measurement campaign was undertaken to characterize eight fractions of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) in particulate matter (PM) at four urban sites with different pollution characteristics during summer, post-monsoon, and winter at Kanpur, India. Speciation samplers were used to collect particulate samples on quartz filters followed by analysis of OC and EC using Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE)-based thermal/optical reflectance (TOR) method. This research focuses on the effect of the Y : B ratio on phase purity and the development of thermally stable 10 mol% Eu(3+)-doped YBO3 red phosphor nanomaterial using a novel sodium borohydride based solution precursor route. An equimolar concentration of Y and B leads to the development of chemically and thermally stable un-doped and Eu(3+)-doped YBO3 up to 1300 °C. An impurity phase, Y3BO6, was observed at a higher temperature of around 1400 °C.

The aim of this article is to express envelope glycoprotein E2 of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in yeast Pichia pastoris and its utility as a diagnostic antigen in ELISA. The BVDV E2 gene was cloned into the pPICZαA vector followed by integration into the Pichia pastoris strain X-33 genome for methanol-induced expression. SDS-PAGE and Western blot results showed that the recombinant BVDV E2 protein (72 kDa) was expressed and secreted into the medium at a concentration of 40 mg/L of culture under optimized conditions.

The aim of this study was to develop a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction ELISA (RT-PCR ELISA) for detection of ruminant pestiviruses and to evaluate its diagnostic performance on clinical samples obtained from cattle, sheep and goats. Optimization was carried out by serial dilution of home-made digoxygenin-labelled RT-PCR product standards obtained from pestivirus isolates and pestivirus infected animals. The detection limit of the assay was 10TCID50/ml, similar to virus isolation and real-time RT-PCR but 10-fold higher than RT-PCR.
