Incidence of Tooth-related Soft Tissue and Intraosseous Pathologies in Pediatric Population: A Retrospective Analysis of 3,398 Cases.

Aim: To assess the prevalence of tooth-related, soft tissue, and intraosseous pathologies in the pediatric population (0-17 years) in a South Indian dental teaching institution and to compare the results with previous literature.

Materials And Methods: Clinical data from the pedodontics department and histopathological records from the oral pathology department were analyzed from the year 2010 to 2022 and grouped into two major categories: group I, abnormalities of teeth, and group II, intraosseous and mucosal/soft tissue lesions. The data were entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and descriptive analysis was conducted using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 26.

Indoor air quality and human health risk assessment in selected high-altitude villages of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

This research marks the inaugural endeavor in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to identify the primary sources of household energy and indoor air pollutants (IAPs) during the winter and additionally, to evaluate the health impacts associated with IAPs within specific high-altitude communities in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Using the convenience sampling method, 20 households were continuously monitored to assess IAPs based on standards time-weighted average. The study found that 90% of the population relied primarily on animal dung as their main energy source, with wood, agricultural residues, electricity, and gas as other sources.

Exploring the protective role of metformin and dehydrozingerone in sodium fluoride-induced neurotoxicity: evidence from prenatal rat models.

This study is aimed at evaluating the neurotoxic effects of chronic exposure of sodium fluoride (NaF) in developmental stages in rat using prenatal models. NaF (100 ppm, orally) dosing via drinking water was given to pregnant rats in disease group. In the treatment groups, Metformin & Dehydrozingerone (DHZ) (200 mg/kg) were administered orally along with NaF, and the dosing was continued throughout the gestation and lactation periods to the pups until the end of experiment.

Proteomic and cytokine profiling of a CTRP8-RXFP1 glioma mouse model.

Glioblastoma (GB) is the most prevalent and aggressive primary brain tumor with fatal outcome due to a lack of effective treatments. We previously identified C1q-tumor necrosis factor-related protein 8 (CTRP8), a new member of the adiponectin family, as a novel agonist of the relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1) and showed that the CTRP8-RXFP1 ligand-receptor system facilitates increased invasiveness and chemoresistance in GB cells. In the present study, we have investigated the role of the CTRP8-RXFP1 signaling axis in glioma progression using an orthotopic mouse model xenografted with human U251 glioma cells stably expressing CTRP8 and RXFP1.

Since most coagulation factors are produced by hepatocytes and liver is key organ affected during infection, we conducted transcriptomics using total-RNA extracted from Huh7 cells overexpressing NS1 protein.

Association of MnSOD, CAT, and GPx1 Gene Polymorphism with Risk of Diabetic Nephropathy in South Indian Patients: A Case-Control Study.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of DN. Studies have demonstrated that antioxidants (MnSOD, CAT, and GPx1) may reduce the complications associated with T2DM. The purpose of the study is to correlate the role of antioxidant gene polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of DN among T2DM individuals in the South Indian population.

Renal involvement in genetic neurocutaneous syndromes.

Phakomatoses, otherwise known as neurocutaneous syndromes, are a heterogeneous group of rare genetic disorders that predominantly affect structures arising from the embryonic ectoderm, namely the skin, eye globe, retina, and central nervous system. In addition to the common neurocutaneous syndromes (neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis complex, Sturge Weber syndrome, Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome), a large number of relatively uncommon phakomatoses have been described in the literature. Cardiovascular, pulmonary, and musculoskeletal systems involvement in these disorders have been reported.

Background: India has the highest number of estimated deaths from cervical cancer globally, with most cases attributed to Human papillomavirus (HPV). The World Health Organization recommends primary HPV vaccination for girls ages 9-14, with catch-up vaccination for young women ≥ 15 if feasible. India authorized a new, inexpensive HPV vaccine in 2022; given anticipated vaccine expansion, we conducted a mixed-methods study exploring acceptability of HPV catch-up vaccination for young emerging adult women in rural Mysore, India.

Background: Lead, a potent neurotoxin, causes irreversible damage to the nervous system, and low- and middle-income countries face huge health and economic productivity losses due to childhood lead exposure. In Bangladesh, informal Used Lead Acid Battery (ULAB) recycling sites are an important source of lead pollution. Little is known about lead awareness among communities exposed to ULAB recycling.

We have collected and analyzed data of 29 pregnant ladies positive for Covid-19.

Hypercalcemia of malignancy: Cancer treatment can be a cause as well.

While the incidence of hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is on the decline, it still occurs in up to 30% of patients with cancer. Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-related hypercalcemia is becoming increasingly recognized. We describe a case of cemiplimab-induced hypercalcemia in a patient with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the earlobe and discuss a management algorithm for HCM.
