Wilms tumor, or nephroblastoma, is the most common malignant tumor of the urinary tract in children, but is rarely found in adults. Here, we report the first case of a female patient with a Wilms tumor, diagnosed during pregnancy, who underwent radical nephrectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy before and after delivering a healthy child. Generally, treatment should follow the guidelines established for the pediatric setting.

Previous research has suggested that three-dimensional (3D) structure-from-motion (SFM) perception in humans involves several motion-sensitive occipital and parietal brain areas. By contrast, SFM perception in nonhuman primates seems to involve the temporal lobe including areas MT, MST and FST. The present functional magnetic resonance imaging study compared several motion-sensitive regions of interest including the superior temporal sulcus (STS) while human observers viewed horizontally moving dots that defined either a 3D corrugated surface or a 3D random volume.

Most research on growing bacterial colonies on agar plates has concerned the effect of genetic or morphotype variation. Some studies have indicated that there is a correlation between microscopic bacterial motion and macroscopic colonial expansion, especially for swarming strains, but no measurements have been obtained for a single strain to relate the microscopic scale to the macroscopic scale. We examined here a single strain (Paenibacillus dendritiformis type T; tip splitting) to determine both the macroscopic growth of colonies and the microscopic bacterial motion within the colonies.

Imaging of integrin alpha(v)beta(3) expression in patients with malignant glioma by [18F] Galacto-RGD positron emission tomography.

Inhibitors targeting the integrin alpha(v)beta(3) are promising new agents currently tested in clinical trials for supplemental therapy of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The aim of our study was to evaluate (18)F-labeled glycosylated Arg-Gly-Asp peptide ([(18)F]Galacto-RGD) PET for noninvasive imaging of alpha(v)beta(3) expression in patients with GBM, suggesting eligibility for this kind of additional treatment. Patients with suspected or recurrent GBM were examined with [(18)F]Galacto-RGD PET.

[Epidural injection therapy with local anaesthetics versus cortisone in the lumbar spine syndrome: a prospective study].

Aim: The prospective randomised double-blind study analyses follow-up data of the therapeutic effects of cortisone versus local anaesthetics using an injection technique close to the nerve root in chronic lumbar spine syndrome.

Methods: 57 patients were included with an MRI-assured clinical diagnosis. The study was performed over a 6-month period to evaluate long-term effects.

The use of duplex doppler ultrasound in a case of multifocal hepatic hemangioma.

A one-month-old girl presented with multiple cutaneous hemangiomas, abnormal weight gain, hepatomegaly, and symptoms of bleeding disorder. Abdominal ultrasound and CT revealed a multifocal hypervascular hepatic tumor and signs of vascular overload. Biopsy confirmed the presence of an infantile hepatic hemangioma.
