The pyrilamine-sensitive proton-coupled organic cation (H/OC) antiporter system facilitates the active net uptake of several marketed organic cationic drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This rare phenomenon has garnered interest in the H/OC antiporter system as a potential target for CNS drug delivery. However, analysis of pharmacovigilance data has uncovered a significant association between substrates of the H/OC antiporter and neurotoxicity, particularly drug-induced seizures (DIS) and mood- and cognitive-related adverse events (MCAEs).

Background And Purpose: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) using single-shot echo planar imaging (DW-EPI) is susceptible to distortions around air-filled cavities and dental fillings, typical for the head and neck area. Non-EPI, Split acquisition of fast spin echo signals for diffusion imaging (DWSPLICE) could reduce these distortions and enhance image quality, thereby potentially improving recurrence assessment in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck region. This study evaluated whether DW-SPLICE is a viable alternative to DW-EPI through quantitative and qualitative analyses.

For this pilot study, the use of the digital 3D anatomy application Complete Anatomy was evaluated as a non-mandatory additional study tool throughout the semester. The aim of the study was to investigate if the Complete Anatomy usage time had an effect on final exam grades and how the app was used post-Covid19. This cross-sectional study asked first year bachelor/freshman university students of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences to fill out a questionnaire to gauge Complete Anatomy usage time, the student's exam results, and how the app was used, for example, in relation to other study tools.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates patient experiences and unmet care needs related to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in advanced melanoma, focusing on individuals in both adjuvant and metastatic stages.
  • Through interviews and focus groups with 35 patients, researchers identified three main themes: decision-making uncertainty, the intense nature of the immunotherapy course, and differing feelings about the treatment experience between adjuvant and metastatic patients.
  • Findings highlight the need for tailored guidance and support for patients based on their treatment stage, including options for flexible follow-ups and psychosocial help during the treatment process.

In addition to water repellency, superhydrophobic leaves of plants such as adsorb oil and separate it from water surfaces. This phenomenon has been the inspiration for a new method of oil-water separation, the bionic oil adsorber (BOA). In this paper, we show how the biological effect can be abstracted and transferred to technical textiles, in this case knitted spacer textiles hydrophobized with a layered silicate, oriented at the biology push approach.

Background: The concept of "positive health" emerged from the need for a holistic and more dynamic perspective on health, emphasising the ability of individuals to adapt and self-manage. The positive health conversation tool helps understand how people score on six positive health dimensions. However, skills within these dimensions to maintain or improve health have not yet been described.

Background: Tumour hypoxia is a negative predictive and prognostic biomarker in colorectal cancer typically assessed by invasive sampling methods, which suffer from many shortcomings. This retrospective proof-of-principle study explores the potential of MRI-derived imaging markers in predicting tumour hypoxia non-invasively in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CLM).

Methods: A single-centre cohort of 146 CLMs from 112 patients were segmented on preoperative T2-weighted (T2W) images and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).

Frailty is a complex, multidimensional syndrome characterised by a loss of physiological reserves that increases a person's susceptibility to adverse health outcomes. Most knowledge regarding frailty originates from geriatric medicine; however, awareness of its importance as a treatable trait for people with chronic respiratory disease (including asthma, COPD and interstitial lung disease) is emerging. A clearer understanding of frailty and its impact in chronic respiratory disease is a prerequisite to optimise clinical management in the future.

Objectives: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is gaining popularity as an addition to standard dynamic contrast-enhanced breast MRI. Although adding diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to the standard protocol design would require increased scanning-time, implementation during the contrast-enhanced phase could offer a multiparametric MRI protocol without any additional scanning time. However, gadolinium within a region of interest (ROI) might affect assessments of DWI.

People with respiratory disease have increased risk of developing frailty, which is associated with worse health outcomes. There is growing evidence of the role of rehabilitation in managing frailty in people with respiratory disease. However, several challenges remain regarding optimal methods of identifying frailty and delivering rehabilitation for this population.

Certain superhydrophobic plants, such as, are able to adsorb oil films from water surfaces and thus separate the oil from the water. There are first attempts to transfer this phenomenon to technical surfaces, but the functional principle and the influence of certain parameters are not yet fully understood. The aim of this work is to understand the interaction behavior between biological surfaces and oil, and to define design parameters for transferring the biological model to a technical textile.

Introduction: Several studies have shown that intradermal vaccination leads to improved immune responses. In addition, lowering vaccine doses will reduce costs and therefore potentially increase coverage. To determine whether intradermal delivery enhances the antibody responses against the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13), we compared intradermally and intramuscularly vaccinated mice.

An increasing number of breast cancer patients develop brain metastases (BM). Standard-of-care treatments are largely inefficient, and breast cancer brain metastasis (BCBM) patients are considered untreatable. Immunotherapies are not successfully employed in BCBM, in part because breast cancer is a "cold" tumor and also because the brain tissue has a unique immune landscape.
