The availability of serology assays to measure antibodies against the SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) expanded rapidly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The interchangeable use of such assays to monitor disease progression and immune protection requires their standardization, for which suitably characterized monoclonal antibody materials can be useful. The methods, based on isotope dilution mass spectrometry, to value assign the mass fraction of such a material in solution within the context of an international interlaboratory comparison study (CCQM-P216) are described.

The material addresses the need for developing reference standards to benchmark virus-like gene delivery systems and help harmonize measurement approaches for characterization and testing. The material is a major component of synthetic polypeptide virus-like particles produced by the state-of-the-art synthetic and analytical chemistry methods used to generate gene delivery systems.

So, it could be expected that a disruption of the coadaptation between nuclear and organellar genomes impact plant response to nutrient stresses. We addressed this issue using two accessions, namely 1 and , and their reciprocal cytolines possessing the nuclear genome from one parent and the organellar genomes of the other one.

For a better understanding of the relationship between autophagy and nitrogen metabolism, we studied the transcriptional plasticity of autophagy genes () in nine Arabidopsis accessions grown under normal and nitrate starvation conditions. The status of the N metabolism in accessions was monitored by measuring the relative expression of 11 genes related to N metabolism in rosette leaves.

Both facilitate nitrogen (N) remobilization and control the duration of carbon (C) fixation. Genetic and environmental factors control N and C resource allocation to seeds.

The SWEET16 gene, similar to the homologs gene SWEET17, is mainly expressed in vascular parenchyma cells. Application of Glc, Fru, or Suc, as well as cold, osmotic stress, or low nitrogen, provoke the down-regulation of SWEET16 messenger RNA accumulation.

Sugar allocation is based on both source-to-sink transport and intracellular transport between the different organelles and depends on actual plant requirements. Under abiotic stress conditions, such as nitrogen limitation, carbohydrates accumulate in plant cells.

Our understanding of plant growth in response to nitrogen (N) supply is mainly based on studies of mutants and transformants. This study explored the natural variability of Arabidopsis thaliana first to find out its global response to N availability and secondly to characterize the plasticity for growth and N metabolism among 23 genetically distant accessions under normal (N+), limited (N-), and starved (N0) N supplies. Plant growth was estimated by eight morphological traits characterizing shoot and root growth and 10 metabolic parameters that represented N and carbon metabolism.

For a better understanding of the physiological function of GDH either in ammonium assimilation or in the supply of 2-oxoglutarate, we used transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants overexpressing the two genes encoding the enzyme.

Objective: We hypothesized that muscle protein response to insulin and amino acid is blunted during obesity.
Research Design And Methods: Total (Tot) and mitochondrial (Mit) muscle proteins fractional synthesis rates (FSR) together with whole-body protein kinetics (WB) have been determined in postabsorptive state (PA) and during a hyperinsulinemic, hyperaminoacidemic, euglycemic clamp by using a continuous infusion of (13)C-leucine in six obese and eight nonobese subjects.

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate leg muscle power and compare two activities (jumping and cycling) in 383 girls and 407 boys ages 9-19 years. Results in anthropometric characteristics and jumping performance were comparable until midadolescence, and sex differences were observed. Lean leg volume (LLV) was the reason for most of the variance (76% in girls and 88% in boys) in jumping performance.

However, in common detection schemes, useful surface signals compete with the high supernatant background from labelled targets in the mix. A known solution consists in exciting specifically the microarray surface with evanescent fields.

However, so far, little is known about how this information is perceived and transduced into coherent growth and developmental decisions. Here, we report that the growth of Arabidopsis is positively correlated with the level of expression of the TARGET OF RAPAMYCIN (TOR) kinase.

Although the physiological role of the enzyme glutamate dehydrogenase which catalyses in vitro the reversible amination of 2-oxoglutarate to glutamate remains to be elucidated, it is now well established that in higher plants the enzyme preferentially occurs in the mitochondria of phloem companion cells. The Nicotiana plumbaginifolia and Arabidopis thaliana enzyme is encoded by two distinct genes encoding either an alpha- or a beta-subunit. Using antisense plants and mutants impaired in the expression of either of the two genes, we showed that in leaves and stems both the alpha- and beta-subunits are targeted to the mitochondria of the companion cells.

Nitrate is an important nitrogen source for plants, but also a signal molecule that controls various aspects of plant development. In the present study the role of nitrate on seed dormancy in Arabidopsis was investigated. The effects of either mutations affecting the Arabidopsis nitrate reductase genes or of different nitrate regimes of mother plants on the dormancy of the seeds produced were analysed.

Twenty-three independent community-dwelling elderly women (mean age: 64+/-4.4) performed on separate days, a peak oxygen uptake test on cycle ergometer, a cycling force-velocity test and a vertical jump test.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA population of 50 independent transgenic lettuces transformed with a nitrate reductase coding sequence under the control of the 35S promoter was studied. None of them showed significantly lower nitrate levels when compared with the untransformed plants, despite the presence of nitrate reductase (NR) activity that derives from the transgene in at least four of the transformants. No repercussion on total NR activity (endogenous+transgenic) was detected in these plants.

In comparison to continuous aerobic type activity, little is known about high-intensity intermittent physical activity in children. Repeated short-term high-intensity activities (> maximal aerobic speed and <10 s) are more characteristic of the spontaneous physical activity of children. Recent studies have shown during repetitive bouts of sprints separated by short recovery intervals, that prepubescent children compared with adults are more able to maintain their performance without substantial fatigue.

The present study was designed to investigate the heart rate-running speed (HR-RS) relationship while exercising continuously, at high intensities, on a treadmill. The purpose was to precisely measure the magnitude of drop in RS necessary to maintain HR during intense exhaustive exercises, and to determine whether the magnitude of drop in RS is directly dependent on exercise intensity. Sixteen male endurance athletes performed five treadmill tests: an incremental test for maximal O2 uptake and maximum aerobic velocity (VMA), and four exhaustive tests: at 82, 86, 89, and 92 % VMA.
