Planar bismuth triamides: a tunable platform for main group Lewis acidity and polymerization catalysis.

Geometric deformation in main group compounds can be used to elicit unique properties including strong Lewis acidity. Here we report on a family of bismuth(iii) complexes ( typically pyramidal structure for such compounds), which show a geometric Lewis acidity that can be further tuned by varying the steric and electronic features of the triamide ligand employed. The structural dynamism of the planar bismuth complexes was probed in both the solid and solution phase, revealing at least three distinct modes of intermolecular association.

While polymers containing chain or ring motifs in their backbone are ubiquitous, those containing well-defined molecular cages are very rare and essentially unknown for the inorganic elements. We report that a rigid and dinucleophilic cage (PNSiMe)(NMe), which is chemically robust and accessible on a multi-gram scale from commercial precursors, serves as a linear and divalent connector that forms cage-dense inorganic materials. Reaction of the cage with various ditopic P(III) dihalide comonomers proceeded via MeSiCl elimination to give high molecular weight (30 000-70 000 g mol), solution-processable polymers that form free-standing films.

Introduction: Patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often have psychiatric comorbidities that may confound diagnosis and affect treatment outcomes and costs. The current study described treatment patterns and healthcare costs among patients with ADHD and comorbid anxiety and/or depression in the United States (USA).

Methods: Patients with ADHD initiating pharmacological treatments were identified from IBM MarketScan Data (2014-2018).

Student Attitudes Contribute to the Effectiveness of a Genomics CURE.

The Genomics Education Partnership (GEP) engages students in a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE). To better understand the student attributes that support success in this CURE, we asked students about their attitudes using previously published scales that measure epistemic beliefs about work and science, interest in science, and grit. We found, in general, that the attitudes students bring with them into the classroom contribute to two outcome measures, namely, learning as assessed by a pre- and postquiz and perceived self-reported benefits.

Controversy exists around whether a 1-MDa complex comprising TIC20, TIC100, and other proteins constitutes the inner membrane TIC translocon.

(PNSiMe ) (NMe) : A Robust Tetravalent Phosphaza-adamantane Scaffold for Molecular and Macromolecular Construction.

Tetraarylmethanes and adamantanes are important rigid covalent connectors that play a four-way scaffolding role in molecular and materials chemistry. We report the synthesis of a new tetravalent phosphaza-adamantane cage, (PNSiMe ) (NMe) (2), that shows high thermal, air, and redox stability due to its geometry. It nevertheless participates in covalent four-fold functionalization reactions along its periphery.

DUNEScan: a web server for uncertainty estimation in skin cancer detection with deep neural networks.

Recent years have seen a steep rise in the number of skin cancer detection applications. While modern advances in deep learning made possible reaching new heights in terms of classification accuracy, no publicly available skin cancer detection software provide confidence estimates for these predictions. We present DUNEScan (Deep Uncertainty Estimation for Skin Cancer), a web server that performs an intuitive in-depth analysis of uncertainty in commonly used skin cancer classification models based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs).

Healthcare costs among patients with macular oedema associated with non-infectious uveitis: a US commercial payer's perspective.

Objective: To describe patient characteristics and healthcare costs associated with uveitic macular oedema (UME) in US clinical practices from a commercial payer's perspective.

Methods And Analysis: The IBM MarketScan Commercial Subset (1 October 2015-31 March 2020) was used to identify patients with non-infectious uveitis (NIU), with or without UME. Patients with UME at any time were further classified into subgroups of patients who received a UME diagnosis during the study period and those who received a UME diagnosis and local steroid injection (LSI) during the study period.

What Should Patients Be Told About Device Representatives' Roles at the Point of Surgical Care?

Recent research has highlighted device representatives' roles in surgical cases. Additional review of cases based on actual events suggests that lack of training on the part of a surgeon and surgical team and lack of knowledge and training on the part of a representative can adversely affect a patient's clinical outcomes. While the necessity of surgical team training is acknowledged by health care organizations, organizations' policies about how to respond when surgeons or trainees refuse representatives' preoperative training remains unclear.

Patient ethnicity and cascade genetic testing: a descriptive study of a publicly funded hereditary cancer program.

Cascade genetic testing for hereditary cancer is highly accurate and cost-effective for identifying individuals at high risk for cancer; however, not all eligible people utilize this service. While sociodemographic factors related to the uptake of cascade genetic testing, such as age and sex, have been fairly well described in the literature, there is limited data available regarding patient ethnicity. We analyzed four years of testing data for this factor, as well as sex, age and genes tested.

Here, we report immediate impacts of changes in human activities on wildlife and environmental threats during the early lockdown months of 2020, based on 877 qualitative reports and 332 quantitative assessments from 89 different studies. Hundreds of reports of unusual species observations from around the world suggest that animals quickly responded to the reductions in human presence.

Access to thermally robust and abrasion resistant antimicrobial plastics: synthesis of UV-curable phosphonium small molecule coatings and extrudable additives.

The threat of antibiotic-resistant, biofilm-forming bacteria necessitates a preventative approach to combat the proliferation of robust, pathogenic strains on "high touch surfaces" in the food packaging, biomedical, and healthcare industries. The development of both biocide-releasing and tethered, immobilized biocide surface coatings has risen to meet this demand. While these surface coatings have demonstrated excellent antimicrobial efficacy, there are few examples of antimicrobial surfaces with long-term durability and performance.

Purpose: Referrals for Lynch syndrome (LS) assessment have traditionally been based on personal and family medical history. The introduction of universal screening practices has allowed for referrals based on immunohistochemistry tests for mismatch repair (MMR) protein expression. This study aims to characterize the effect of universal screening in a publicly funded healthcare system with comparison to patients referred by traditional criteria, from January 2012 to March 2017.

Facilitating Growth through Frustration: Using Genomics Research in a Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience.

A hallmark of the research experience is encountering difficulty and working through those challenges to achieve success. This ability is essential to being a successful scientist, but replicating such challenges in a teaching setting can be difficult. The Genomics Education Partnership (GEP) is a consortium of faculty who engage their students in a genomics Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE).

Analysis of the fit of modern pre-contoured distal femur plates: Expect an imperfect contour.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the contour of current distal femur plates can reliably be used as a reduction tool and to determine if the presence of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) influences fit. Thirty-two patients were retrospectively reviewed. Radiographs of 19 patients with normal knees and 21 patients who had undergone TKA were evaluated.

Surface-attached sulfonamide containing quaternary ammonium antimicrobials for textiles and plastics.

With the risks associated with healthcare-associated infections and the rise of antibiotic resistant microorganisms, there is an important need to control the proliferation of these factors in hospitals, retirement homes and other institutions. This work explores the development and application of a novel class of sulfonamide-based quaternary ammonium antimicrobial coatings, anchored to commercially and clinically relevant material surfaces. Synthesized in high yields (60-97%), benzophenone-anchored antimicrobials were spray-coated and UV grafted onto plastic surfaces, while silane-anchored variants were adhered to select textiles dip-coating.

An algorithm assessing the methylation levels of 353 informative CpG sites in the human genome permits accurate prediction of the chronologic age of a subject. Interestingly, when there is discrepancy between the predicted age and chronologic age (age acceleration or "AgeAccel"), patients are at risk for morbidity and mortality. Identification of infertile patients at risk for accelerated reproductive senescence may permit preventative action.

A Ycf2-FtsHi Heteromeric AAA-ATPase Complex Is Required for Chloroplast Protein Import.

Chloroplasts import thousands of nucleus-encoded preproteins synthesized in the cytosol through the TOC and TIC translocons on the outer and inner envelope membranes, respectively. Preprotein translocation across the inner membrane requires ATP; however, the import motor has remained unclear. Here, we report that a 2-MD heteromeric AAA-ATPase complex associates with the TIC complex and functions as the import motor, directly interacting with various translocating preproteins.

Periosteal Ewing Sarcoma in a 65-Year-Old Man: A Case Report.

Case: Ewing sarcoma is predominantly a pediatric bone malignancy involving the medullary canal. Periosteal Ewing sarcoma, a subtype arising from the periosteum, is exceedingly rare, with approximately 30 reported cases in the literature. We describe a case of periosteal Ewing sarcoma in the tibia of a 65-year-old man.

UV-Curable Contact Active Benzophenone Terminated Quaternary Ammonium Antimicrobials for Applications in Polymer Plastics and Related Devices.

A series of UV active benzophenone ([CHCOCH-O-(CH)-NMeR][X]; 4, R = CH, n = 3, X = Br; 5a-c, R = CH, n = 3, X = Cl, Br, I; 6a-c, R = CH, n = 4, X = Cl, Br, I; 7a-c, R = CH, n = 6, X = Cl, Br, I) terminated C and C quaternary ammonium salts (QACs) were prepared by thermal or microwave-driven Menshutkin protocols of the appropriate benzophenone alkyl halide (1a-c, 2a-c, 3a-c) with the corresponding dodecyl- or octadecyl N,N-dimethylamine. All new compounds were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, HRMS spectrometry, and, in one instance (4), by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Representative C and C benzophenone QACs were formulated into 1% (w/v) water or water/ethanol-based aerosol spray coatings and then UV-cured onto plastic substrates (polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and polyether ether ketone) with exposure to low to moderate doses of UV (20-30 J cm).

Since the generation of a mouse strain conditionally expressing the active intracellular domain of Notch1 (N1), many laboratories have exploited this model (Rosa) to assess the impact of constitutive Notch1 signalling activation in normal and pathological processes. It should be underscored that Cre-recombination leads to the expression of a C-terminally truncated form of N1 (N1) in the Rosa mutant mice. Given that no studies were undertaken to delineate whether deletion of this region leaves intact N1 function, stable cell lines with single targeted integration of inducible N1 and N1 were generated.
