Resection of Heterotopic Ossifications and Total Hip Arthroplasty Using a Single Ludloff Medial Approach: A Case Report.

Case: Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a relatively rare but severe clinical finding around the hip joint, characterized by the formation of extraskeletal bone in soft tissue. We present the case of a 66-year-old man with a severe, painful gait disorder caused by extensive neurogenic bilateral HO. In this case, due to the medial HO localization, we performed a staged bilateral, combined HO resection and total hip arthroplasty using the single medial Ludloff approach.

[Concept of coronal alignment in total knee arthroplasty].

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most performed orthopedic surgeries worldwide. For many years, TKA implants were positioned according to a systematic approach known as mechanical alignment, which prioritized implant survival over the restoration of a more physiological knee. A high dissatisfaction rate of 20% after knee prosthesis has led to a rethinking of coronal alignment and a move towards a more personalized approach.

Purpose: While restricted kinematic alignment (rKA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with cemented implants has been shown to provide a similar survivorship rate to mechanical alignment (MA) in the short term, no studies have reported on the long-term survivorship and function.

Methods: One hundred four consecutive cemented cruciate retaining TKAs implanted using computer navigation and following the rKA principles proposed by Vendittoli were reviewed at a minimum of 10 years after surgery. Implant revisions, reoperations and clinical outcomes were assessed using knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS), forgotten joint score (FJS), patients' satisfaction and joint perception questionnaires.

Personalized total knee arthroplasty in patients with extra-articular deformities.

Over the years, with a better understanding of knee anatomy and biomechanics, superior implant designs, advanced surgical techniques, and the availability of precision tools such as robotics and navigation, a more personalized approach to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has emerged. In the presence of extra-articular deformities, performing personalized TKA can be more challenging and specific considerations are required, since one has to deal with an acquired pathological anatomy. Performing personalized TKA surgery in patients with extra-articular deformities, the surgeon can: (1) resurface the joint, omitting the extra-articular deformity; (2) partially compensate the extra-articular deformity with intra-articular correction (hybrid technique), or (3) correct the extra-articular deformity combined with a joint resurfacing TKA (single stage or two-stage procedure).

Excellent Results of Large-Diameter Ceramic-On-Ceramic Bearings in Total Hip Arthroplasty at Minimum Ten-Year Follow-Up.

Background: This study reports the minimum 10 years results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed using a monoblock acetabular component with a large-diameter head ceramic-on-ceramic bearing.

Methods: Of the 276 THAs included in this study, there were eleven deaths and 27 patients lost to follow up (11%) during the follow-up, leaving 237 (85%) hips available for review at a mean of 10.5 years (range, 10 to 12) postoperatively.

The Use of Brief Mindfulness Interventions in the Context of Perioperative Care.

The purpose of this review was to synthesize and categorize the literature on the use of brief mindfulness interventions for both patients and physicians across the spectrum of perioperative care. Web-based discovery services and discipline-specific databases were queried. Brief mindfulness interventions were defined as sessions lasting 30 min or less on any single occasion, with a total practice accumulation not exceeding 100 min per week, and a duration of up to 4 weeks.

[Dislocation after total hip arthroplasty : how to avoid it ?].

Dislocation after hip replacement is a complication that can have dramatic consequences for the patient. The purpose of this article is to review the different parameters influencing stability and how to reduce this risk. The approach, the diameter of the femoral head, and the use of dual-mobility acetabular cups have led to a drastic reduction in the rate of dislocation, particularly in patients at risk, in cases of imbalance of the spino-pelvic complex, or in cases of revision surgery.

Acetabular Peri-Prosthetic Fractures-A Narrative Review.

Acetabular peri-prosthetic fractures are rare but their incidence is rising due to the increased prevalence of total hip arthroplasty, the increasing life expectancy and the growing functional demand of an ageing population, the incidence of primary total hip arthroplasty is increasing. Purification of MAP-kinase protein complexes and identification of candidate components by XL-TAP-MS.

The purification of low-abundance protein complexes and detection of in vivo protein-protein interactions in complex biological samples remains a challenging task. Here, we devised crosslinking and tandem affinity purification coupled to mass spectrometry (XL-TAP-MS), a quantitative proteomics approach for analyzing tandem affinity-purified, crosslinked protein complexes from plant tissues. We exemplarily applied XL-TAP-MS to study the MKK2-Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MPK4) signaling module in Arabidopsis thaliana.
