A clinical and radiological study searching for a dental or oral infection was performed on thirty six patients before arterial reconstruction by prosthesis. Potential oral or dental infection was found in 16 cases and dental extraction was performed. Previous studies confirmed the interest of oral or dental examination before any vascular prosthesis, which could be a reasonable attitude.

In reference to four particular cases where a venous thrombosis associated with the use of oral contraceptives, the authors review the various factors of this problem. The importance of the concomitant use of tobacco as well as risk factors such as hyperlipidemia and hypertension, are especially stressed. These four cases, almost of an experimental nature, permit to correlate precisely the interaction between estro-progestative medications and the occurrence of venous thromboses.

More than a common descriptive interest, this researches about vasa-vasorum have been carried on to give some anatomical basis, to the part acted by those vessels in arterial wall life. Microdissections, X-rays diaphanisation enable us to systematize even in human kind than in animal species, the main aspects of this vascularisation. The conception of a double irrigation, from the lumen and from the vasa of the blood vessels, and the presence of a venous and lymphatic drainage, can give us the basis of an interpretation of the beginning of the main arterial diseases.

Arterial collateral ways are reviewed correlatively with five differents levels of obliteration : aortic, iliac, ilio-femoral, femoro-popliteal, dista. A double visceral and parietal supply system caracterize each obliterated level; the importance of this double system varies considerably with the site of obliteration.

The authors introduce the concept of covering myoplasty in the treatment of infected cutaneous vascular prosthesis, either in the inguinal region or in the abdominal portion of an axillo-femoral graft. After describing their technique, they briefly review the main procedures described up to the present time and the potential role of myoplasty.

The present study was carried out in order to investigate if 1) the gastrophrenic ligament was involved in gastric stabilization, 2) the surface of this ligament might be influenced by fundus distension induced by the first deglutition of the newborn. In a series of 23 subjects (15 adults, 8 foetuses) the surface of the gastrophrenic ligament was expressed in % of the postero-inferior surface of the stomach. The gastrophrenic ligament consisted of loose areolar tissue and its surface was rather small (5,89% +/- 3,8 in adults; 4,3% +/- 1,5 in the foetus).

Some ideas emphazied by RENARD and his collaborators were rediscovered.--Anastomosis doesnt always signify compensation and it is often difficult to appreciate the functional importance of the anastomoses shown by arteriographies.--The most valuable compensations are made by short ways.

The authors carried out a study on 53 patients operated on for varices with the object of determining the risk of postoperative thromboembolism. They tried to answer three questions : 1) What is the magnitude of the risk of thromboembolism after this kind of surgery? 2) What is the value of the different methods of detection available? 3) What attitude should be adopted towards therapy, not of thromboembolism as a complication, but of the threat of thromboembolism?
