Quantification of the C3 breakdown product C3d by rocket immunoelectrophoresis.

The levels of the C3 breakdown product C3d were measured in plasma, serum, and synovial fluid by the technique of rocket immunoelectrophoresis. Serum and plasma from 22 healthy donors, 4 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, 1 patient with systemic lupus erythematosus, and 1 patient with cryoglobulinemia were used. The synovial fluid was studied in 3 other patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

We have demonstrated the log normality of the distribution of sheep rosette-forming cells and mouse rosette-forming cells' values obtained with lymphocytes isolated from the peripheral blood of 135 healthy human beings and 57 patients suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukemia and well differentiated lymphocytic lymphosarcoma with bone marrow infiltration either in evolution or in remission. In evolutive cases, the absolute numbers of mouse rosette-forming cells rose as well as the lymphocytosis, whereas the absolute numbers of sheep rosette-forming cells were normal or even increased in spite of an impressive drop of their percentage. In nonevolutive cases, the absolute numbers of sheep rosette-forming cells and mouse rosette-forming cells were lowered to half of the normal values as a consequence of the lymphopenia induced by chemotherapeutic agents.

[Logarithmo-normal distributions of relative and absolute values of human lymphocytes forming spontaneous rosettes in presence of sheep and mouse erythrocytes in normal adult].

The percentages and absolute numbers of peripheral blood lymphocytes forming rosettes with sheep and mouse red blood cells were established in 135 normal human beings. We found SRFC values almost similar to the proportion of so called "active" rosettes, whereas the values of MRFC were low. SRFC and MRFC values had a logarithmico-normal distribution.

[Influence of a sublethal irradiation on the immune response of the mouse to sheep erythrocytes].

In the CBA mice, the immunological response of the spleen cells (RFC and PFC direct and indirect) against the sheep erythrocytes is highly depressed by a 400 R dose of X rays. The recovery is not complete at the 30th day after irradiation. The response of the bone marrow cells either irradiated or unirradiated to the antigenic stimulation is very low.
