Asthma treatment in children and adolescents in an urban area in southern Brazil: popular myths and features.

Objective: To describe the frequency of popular myths about and features of asthma treatment in children and adolescents in an urban area in southern Brazil.

Methods: The parents or legal guardians of public school students (8-16 years of age) completed a specific questionnaire regarding their understanding of asthma, asthma control, and treatment characteristics. The sample included parents or legal guardians of students with asthma (n = 127) and healthy controls (n = 124).

Burden of asthma among inner-city children from Southern Brazil.

Objective: To assess the impact of asthma in a population of inner-city Brazilian children.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we selected children with asthma and healthy controls from public schools (8-16 years) from a capital city of Southern Brazil. Divided into three phases, questionnaires were administered, assessing lung function, body mass index and allergic sensitization.

[Teaching of nursing in Rio Grande do Sul in the 1950].

The purpose of this research was to analyze how the undergraduate teaching of nursing in Rio Grande do Sul has constructed its knowledge, since the first course, as of the decade of 1950s. The survey has involved teaching nurses who have lived such period of our history, and the discourse analysis has been utilized for the documental analysis. The information data indicate, among them, the most integrated curriculum that seeks articulating theory/practice without fragmenting the knowledge and the teaching-learning relationship, wherein professors and students are subjects of such procedure.

[Linkages and challenges in the training of professional nurses].

The objective of the study was to know the linkages and challenges between professional training and practice and the Curriculum Guidelines for Nursing Baccalaureate Degree Programs. It was a qualitative study, with 34 graduates in nursing, who answered an e-mailed questionnaire. Data analysis was based on Michael Foucault's discourse analysis.

[Family caregivers' perception about a program of hospital discharge].

The preparation of hospital discharge, seen as a strategy in Health Education, may help the family to continue household care after hospital discharge. This descriptive study with qualitative approach aims at analyzing how the family caregiver who assists elderly patients with CVA (cerebrovascular accident) sees a discharge planning program in a university hospital. Twelve family caregivers were interviewed.

[Families in charge of health care for elderly people: their relationship with social and health care institutions].

This research has a quality approach that aims at understanding the relationship between low-income families who provide fragile elderly people with health care at their own homes and social and health institutions. The methodology used is a case study of the ethnographic kind. Data were collected by means of participating observation and interview with four families.

[Programs of nursing home care].

Home care is an assistance strategy that emphasizes patient autonomy, as well as self-care in the domiciliary setting. This strategy involves planning, coordination, and performance of several services. This study is of a descriptive type, contemplating a qualitative approach by means of a bibliographical review.
