[Psychotropic medication consumption in the general population of the Great Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Comparison between different areas and with Buenos Aires city].

Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of psychotropic drug consumption among the Great Buenos Aires general population and to compare this prevalence between its different areas and with Buenos Aires city.

Methods: A survey was conducted among 1877 inhabitants of different districts of the Great Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.

Results: At the time of the survey, 7 % of the general population was using some kind of psychotropic medication.
