Run-of-river (ROR) dams, often perceived as having minimal environmental impact, can induce significant hydrodynamic changes that alter aquatic ecosystems. We investigated the impacts of an ROR dam on the Madeira River, the largest Amazon tributary, focusing on phytoplankton communities, their ecological implications, and related environmental factors. Our study examined changes in biomass and environmental factors (using General Linear Mixed Models - GLMM), species composition (using PERMANOVA) before and after damming, in both the main channel and tributaries (N = 549 samples).

One promising approach to help patients improve their eating-related quality of life (QOL) is through self-management coaching to aid in diet modification. We performed a randomized pilot study of a nutritionist-led telehealth intervention for the self-management of eating after gastroesophageal cancer surgery.

We intended to assess the seroprevalence in cats of anti- and anti- antibodies, as well as the associated risk factors that may lead them to contract these infections in Rolim de Moura, state of Rondônia, North Brazil. For this, blood serum samples of 100 cats from different regions of the city were evaluated.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAnoxia is one of the most prevalent causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in preterm neonates, constituting an important public health problem due to permanent neurological sequelae observed in patients. Oxygen deprivation triggers a series of simultaneous cascades, culminating in cell death mainly located in more vulnerable metabolic brain regions, such as the hippocampus. In the process of cell death by oxygen deprivation, cytosolic calcium plays crucial roles.

The preparation of the solution consisted of: grinding the waste of mixed batteries, reduction and volatile metals elimination using electric furnace and acid leaching. From this solution two different routes were studied: selective precipitation with sodium hydroxide and liquid-liquid extraction using Cyanex 272 [bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphoric acid] as extracting agent.

There are few genetic analyses of FNMTC tumours reported at the present time and the eventual gene involved was not identified yet.

Aim: To evaluate the utility of thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement in fine-needle aspirates (FNA-Tg) for detecting cervical lymph node (CLNs) metastases from differentiated thyroid carcinomas.
Objective: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) occurs both sporadically and in the context of autosomal dominantly inherited multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) syndromes: MEN2A, MEN2B, and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma (FMTC), which are caused by activating germline mutations in the RET proto-oncogene. The aim of this study was to characterize the RET mutational spectrum in MEN2 families and apparently sporadic MTC (AS-MTC) cases originating from the central region of Portugal.
Subjects And Methods: We studied a total of 82 individuals (64 affected and 18 family members), comprising five MEN2 families (four MEN2A and one MEN2B), as well as 53 AS-MTC cases.
The authors refer to congenic hypothyroidism, hypotyroxinemia in premature new-borns, thyroid dysfunction, congenic thyrotoxicosis, breastfeeding, composed anti-thyroid drugs and children nutrition based on iodine. Concerning to the fetus and new-born thyroid dysfunction, it's very important to make an early diagnosis in order to avoid later complications. Several studies revealed that the different types of composed anti-thyroid drugs can induce pregnant woman choice.
