Preconditioning is a mechanism in which injuries induced by non-lethal hypoxia or seizures trigger cellular resistance to subsequent events. Norwood et al., in a 2010 study, showed that an 8-h-long period of electrical stimulation of the perforant pathway in rats is required for the induction of hippocampal sclerosis.

We used a multi-omics approach to determine the profile of transcript and protein expression in the dorsal and ventral hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) and Cornu Ammonis 3 (CA3) in an animal model of MTLE induced by pilocarpine. We performed label-free proteomics and RNAseq from laser-microdissected tissue isolated from pilocarpine-induced Wistar rats.
