Background: Hand Grip Strength (HGS), a basic, non-invasive measure of musculoskeletal function is found to be a risk marker for cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cancer. Considering the importance and paucity of studies among industrial workers, we aim to study the association between anthropometric adiposity indices and the HGS of industrial workers.

Materials And Methods: The study is a descriptive, cross-sectional study.

Stroke volume and myocardial contraction fraction in transthyretin amyloidosis cardiomyopathy: A systematic review.

Background: Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is primarily a restrictive cardiomyopathy in which the impairment of diastolic function is dominant. Despite this, the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) may be depressed in the late stage of the disease, but it poorly predicts prognosis in the earlier phases and does not represent well the pathophysiology of CA. Many echocardiographic parameters resulted important diagnostic and prognostic tools in patients with CA.

Effect of almond consumption on insulin sensitivity and serum lipids among Asian Indian adults with overweight and obesity- A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Asian Indians have an increased susceptibility to type 2 diabetes and premature coronary artery disease. Nuts, like almonds, are rich in unsaturated fat and micronutrients with known health benefits.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of almonds for reduction of insulin resistance and improving lipid profile in overweight Asian Indian adults.

Prostate Cancer Characteristics in Renal Transplant Recipients: A 25-Year Experience From a Single Centre.

The incidence of prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients (RTRs) is increasing, but few data are available in the literature. In this study, we reviewed the 25-year experience in the management of prostate cancer after kidney transplantation at the Florence Transplant Centre. We retrospectively reviewed the data from 617 RTR male patients who underwent renal transplantation at our institute between July 1996 and September 2016.

States and health care reform: the importance of program implementation.

The recent debate on national health care reform marked another case of policy being considered without reference to how--or even if--it could be implemented. The debate revolved around broad issues, such as universal versus partial coverage, mandatory versus voluntary alliances, and the respective roles of government and the market in health care. The ease or even the possibility of successful implementation was not an ingredient in evaluating proposals.

Medicaid beneficiaries and health reform.

Some health reform proposals include reductions in Medicaid benefits in favor of a more basic health plan that would cover a broader range of Americans, including the uninsured. This study provides data on the implications of such proposals. With current Medicaid coverage, the study finds that one in five adults experienced serious problems getting and paying for health care in the past year.

What influences a state's approach to Medicaid reform?

Four states--Arizona, California, New York, and Pennsylvania--undertook major Medicare reforms in the early 1980s based on competition, price negotiation, regulation, and diagnosis related groups. To increase our understanding of what led to these reforms, we analyzed data from interviews with representatives of state executive and legislative branches and from providers and others involved in the reforms, and examined published and unpublished information on the reforms. We identified seven factors influencing choice of Medicaid reform: the crisis that triggered reform, the purposes of reform, the locus of the innovation (legislative versus executive), the power and views of key provider groups, state officials' perception of providers and recipients, the scope of the change implemented, and reform as a reflection of past state practices.

Implementing change: lessons for Medicaid reformers.

Major Medicaid reforms initiated in Arizona, California, and New York in the 1980s form the foundation of this study, which explores issues to consider when implementing change in state Medicaid programs. We prepared case studies of these reforms, describing the innovations and assessing the implementation process in each state. These case studies are used to illustrate broad issues and processes of Medicaid reform.

Acute care delivery for the geriatric patient: an innovative approach.

As the elderly population and expenditures for health care continue to grow rapidly in the United States, how to provide high-quality, cost-effective geriatric care is becoming a pressing question. To address this question, Choate-Symmes Health Services, Inc, established 10-bed Geriatric Special Care Units (GSCUs) in its two suburban Boston hospitals. Care on the GSCUs is delivered under a primary nursing model and involves comprehensive assessment, development of individual care plans emphasizing independence and activity, an interdisciplinary patient care team, and family participation in care planning.
