An Early-Stage Economic Evaluation of Superabsorbent Wound Dressings for the Management of Moderately to Highly Exuding Leg Ulcers in Slovakian Settings.

Background: The management of chronic leg ulcers, including venous leg ulcers (VLUs), causes a considerable economic and clinical burden to healthcare systems. Factors such as nursing time, hospital care, and wound dressings account for approximately 85% of the total cost. Superabsorbent dressings (eg, superabsorbent polymers [SAPs]) are recommended as a first-line treatment for moderately to highly exuding VLUs.

The value of epidemiological data for pressure ulcer/injury management.

Pressure ulcers/injuries (PU/Is) are a burden on healthcare systems worldwide. They are costly and have a negative impact on the quality of life of patients. PU/Is cause discomfort, prolong hospital stays and can even lead to death.

Advanced Practice Nursing in Cardiology: The Slovak Perspective for the Role Development and Implementation.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number one cause of death globally. Most can be prevented by addressing behavioral risk factors, where advanced practice nurses- clinical specialists in cardiovascular nursing play a fundamental role. This modern and effective role is based on advanced activities, knowledge, skills, and experience in a specialized field, which can make a significant contribution to solving the problems of these civilization diseases.

Background: Pressure ulcers (PU) remain a serious complication of immobile patients and a burden for healthcare professionals. The incidence and prevalence remain alarming. Knowledge and attitudes of nurses play a fundamental role in prevention.

Quality of Life of Patients with Glaucoma in Slovakia.

The aim of this study was to identify and analyse the quality of life of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) based on their visus and peripheral vision. Our study was observational in nature; it was a cross-sectional study. In total, 119 patients with POAG were included in a causal-comparative character, ex post facto research design.

Developing the advanced practice nursing role in Slovakia: Perception, education, and practice.

Background: Advanced practice nursing (APN) is a modern and effective nursing role that has a positive impact on health care systems around the world. Guiding principles are advanced education, expanded scope of practice, and policies supportive of the role.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to find out the perception of APNs of their own practice in the context of the current legislative conditions in Slovakia and to identify related factors.
