Background: Shared decision-making is one promising solution to addressing barriers in use of disease-modifying therapies for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with sickle cell disease (SCD). A thorough understanding of decisional needs can guide the development of decisional supports and promote shared decision-making.
Procedure: Informed by the Ottawa Decision Support Framework (ODSF), we conducted a qualitative analysis to assess decisional needs and supports reported by AYAs with SCD, their caregivers, and healthcare providers.
Purpose: We examine referral sources and clinical characteristics for youth presenting to an outpatient interdisciplinary pediatric chronic pain program.
Patients And Methods: Referral data were extracted from the electronic health record. PROMIS Pediatric Anxiety and Pain Interference Scales were administered at an initial evaluation visit.
Study Objective: To describe the demographic characteristics and psychological symptoms of gender-diverse patients and to compare symptoms between prepubertal and pubertal subgroups METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review of all gender-diverse patients seen by at least 1 provider at the Nemours Gender Wellness Program from March 2015 to December 2020. The extracted data included demographic and psychosocial characteristics at baseline and 1-year follow-up visits. Pubertal status was determined by Tanner staging by a pediatric endocrinologist or gynecologist.

Purpose: Transgender and gender diverse patients who are assigned female at birth may request menstrual management to alleviate an increased dysphoria due to menses. The objective of this study is to describe the initiation and use over time of menstrual management methods (MMMs) in transgender and gender diverse adolescents.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients in a multidisciplinary pediatric gender program from March 2015 to December 2020 who were assigned female at birth, identified as transgender or gender diverse, and had achieved menarche.
Background: Individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) experience systemic barriers in accessing high-quality care. Research suggests that patient/family-provider relationships are an important indicator of healthcare quality and can influence disease self-management and outcomes. The Patient Centered Communication (PCC) framework holds that patient/family-centered communication (e.

Although some people within LGBTQ communities are at risk of developing some cancers at higher rates than non-LGBTQ people, there is limited evidence of the outcomes of targeted cancer prevention and screening interventions for these communities. This scoping review examined key findings regarding the feasibility, acceptability and efficacy of evaluated intervention studies conducted in high income settings and published in peer reviewed literature (2014-2020) by combining evidence of both cancer risk-reducing behavioural interventions and screening and preventative practice interventions. While there is limited evidence of stronger outcomes from targeted interventions with cohorts of gender and sexuality diverse communities, compared with the use of mainstream or untailored interventions, there is stronger evidence that targeted interventions are more acceptable to these communities and may be more feasible in some contexts.

Methods: National, online cross-sectional surveys of GBM were conducted in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. Willingness to use PrEP was measured on a previously validated scale.
Background: HIV prevention cascades can assist in monitoring the implementation of prevention methods like preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). We developed 2 PrEP cascades for Australia's primary HIV-affected population, gay and bisexual men.
Methods: Data were drawn from 2 national, repeated, cross-sectional surveys (the Gay Community Periodic Surveys and PrEPARE Project).
Using repeated, national, online, cross-sectional surveys of Australian gay and bisexual men (GBM), we analysed trends related to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Specifically, we analysed trends in PrEP use, willingness to use PrEP, and concern about using PrEP during 2011-2017. We assessed support for GBM using PrEP and willingness to have sex with men taking PrEP between 2015 and 2017.

Methods: A total of 249 patients received a miniopen CTR and were subsequently randomized into 1 of 3 orthotic regimens: 80, no orthosis; 83, removable orthosis; and 86, nonremovable orthosis-to be removed at the first postoperative visit 10 to 14 days later. Patient-reported outcomes included the quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH) surveys, Levine-Katz Symptom Severity and Functional Status Scales, and Pain at Rest and in Action using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale.
Purpose: To determine if arthroscopic partial trapeziectomy (APT) and soft tissue interposition arthroplasty is an effective treatment for symptomatic trapeziometacarpal arthritis.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 30 consecutive patients with symptomatic isolated trapeziometacarpal arthritis, Eaton-Littler stages II and III. Treatment consisted of an APT with soft tissue interposition utilizing an acellular dermal matrix as the interposition material.
Purpose: Collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) is approved for the treatment of adults with Dupuytren contracture with a palpable cord. This open-label, phase 4 study evaluated the safety and efficacy of CCH for the retreatment of recurrent contractures in joints that were previously effectively treated with CCH.
Methods: Patients participating in a long-term follow-up study who had contracture recurrence (increased ≥ 20° with a palpable cord) after successful treatment in the previous study were eligible.

Neuropathic pain is a chronic disease, which impacts millions of individuals worldwide. The condition is currently treated with several drugs that provide pain relief that is inconsistent and complicated by CNS or cardiovascular (CV) side effects. Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) and voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) are of particular interest as targets for neuropathic pain because they control electrical signals in both the central and peripheral nervous system.

We used this technique in a child with a critical need for an NJ tube, in whom routine guidewire exchange was not feasible because of tube obstruction as well as the patient's anatomic abnormalities. This technique might also be useful for other patients in whom standard techniques are ineffective.

Component shape, surface finish, and presence of holes for adjuvant screw fixation should all affect initial stability and hence long-term fixation of total hip acetabular components. We conducted a study to determine stability against edge loading and torsion in commercial implants that differed in these design variables. Components were seated into synthetic cancellous bone blocks, and loads and insertion energies necessary to seat the components were measured.
