Objectives: Access to local banking represents an understudied dimension of neighborhood-based inequalities that could significantly influence older adults' perceptions of their neighborhood spaces in ways that matter for disparities in well-being. We evaluate disparities in banking access and then examine how local banking access informs older adults' perceptions of neighborhood collective efficacy and danger, above and beyond other neighborhood socioeconomic characteristics.

Methods: We use nationally representative data from older adults in the United States who were interviewed at Round 3 of the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, linked with data on banks in respondents' residential and surrounding census tracts from the National Establishment Time-Series database, in a series of bivariate and multivariable regression analyses.

Psychopharmacological treatment is an important component of the multimodal intervention approach to treating mental health conditions in children and adolescents. Currently, there are many unmet needs but also opportunities, alongside possible risks to consider, regarding the pharmacological treatment of mental health conditions in children and adolescents. In this Position Paper, we highlight and address these unmet needs and opportunities, including the perspectives of clinicians and researchers from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology-Child and Adolescent Network, alongside those of experts by lived experience from national and international associations, via a survey involving 644 participants from 13 countries, and of regulators, through representation from the European Medicines Agency.

Relationships between debt and poor health are worrisome as access to expensive credit expands and population health worsens along certain metrics. We focus on payday lenders as one type of expensive credit and investigate the spatial relationships between lender storefronts and premature mortality rates. We combine causes of death data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and payday lender locations at the county-level in the United States between 2000 and 2017.

Sex hormones influence the prevalence and the outcome of heart diseases. The conversion of testosterone to its more active metabolite dihydrotestosterone drives cardiac growth and dysfunction, while inhibition of this step by the anti-androgenic drug finasteride counteracts these pathological processes in preclinical models. The ATP-dependent protease, FtsH, degrades misassembled membrane proteins for quality control like SecY, subunit a of FoF1-ATPase, and YccA, and digests short-lived soluble proteins in order to control their cellular regulation, including sigma32, LpxC and lambdacII. The FtsH protein has an N-terminal transmembrane segment and a large cytosolic region that consists of two domains, an ATPase and a protease domain. We report the long-term evaluation over 12 years of a simplified technique for stem-cell cryopreservation at -80 degrees C without rate-controlled freezing and with 5% (n=251) or 10% (n=47) DMSO as the sole cryoprotectant. Platelet recovery was greater in the 5% DMSO group while long-term hematological recovery did not differ. Factors influencing a faster hematological recovery were infusion of more than 2.

Although rituximab is an effective and safe therapy for B-cell lymphoid malignancies, a few cases of severe infusion-related reactions have been reported. Severe refractory distributive shock is an infrequent side-effect of treatment with rituximab and, to our knowledge, there are no reports describing its pathogenesis in a case of fatal outcome in detail. We present for the first time a case of fatal rituximab infusion-related refractory distributive shock in a patient with CD5+ diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and analyse the pathogenic mechanisms involved.

Both hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and hypereosinophilic syndrome have been associated with hematologic neoplasms and are respectively related to an overproduction of the cytokines Thelper 1 (Th1) and Th2 by tumor cells or reactive cells. To our knowledge, this is the first time a case of a peripheral T-cell lymphoma consecutively associated with both paraneoplastic conditions has been reported. Importantly, in this case when the lymphoma exclusively involved the bone marrow, severe paraneoplastic systemic damage, a CD8+ suppressor/cytotoxic phenotype and a hypereosinophilia not related to high levels of interleukin (IL)-5 was found.

This study was designed to test the role of endothelium and the L-arginine/NO pathway in the relaxation of canine large coronary arteries to the beta-adrenoceptor agonist, isoprenaline. Relaxation of left circumflex (LCX) and left anterior descending (LAD) coronary arteries were measured in organ baths after contraction with the thromboxane analogue, U46619, either in absence or in presence of endothelium and in LCX arteries after pretreatment with NG-nitro-L-arginine-methyl-ester (L-NAME). LAD arteries with and without endothelium relaxed identically to isoprenaline but their maximal relaxation was smaller than corresponding LCX arteries with endothelium.

Experiments were designed to examine the effect of oxidized low density lipoproteins (Ox-LDLs) on the expression and the release of endothelin from cultured endothelial cells and intact blood vessels. Ox-LDLs (30-300 micrograms/ml), but not native low density lipoproteins (200 micrograms/ml), stimulated the expression of preproendothelin mRNA in porcine and human endothelial cells, leading to a time- and concentration-dependent release of the peptide into the culture medium. The Ox-LDL-stimulated release of endothelin was mimicked by acetylated low density lipoprotein and abolished by downregulation of protein kinase C by phorbol ester.

This article reports on the binding and the angiotensin II (Ang II) antagonistic properties of a peptide, referred to as hIIA, encoded by an RNA strand complementary to the human Ang II messenger RNA. Although Ang II and hIIA (H2N-Glu-Gly-Val-Tyr-Val-His-Pro-Val-COOH) share four amino acids, the iodinated and tritiated forms of hIIA were unreactive with seven monoclonal antibodies defining four distinct epitopes on the Ang II molecule and failed to bind to Ang II hepatic and mesangial receptors. However, hIIA did inhibit binding of 125I-Ang II to rat hepatocyte membranes (IC50, 2 x 10(-7) M) and to the various monoclonal antibodies.

Because atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) has been demonstrated to decrease resistances in cortical renal vessels in vivo, we studied 125I-ANF binding and ANF-dependent guanosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) production in subcultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) prepared from the rabbit renal cortex. 125I-ANF specific binding at 4 degrees C represented 70% of total binding and reached a plateau at 30-60 min. Equilibrium saturation binding curves suggested one group of high-affinity receptor sites (KD = 78 +/- 16 pM, Bmax = 45 +/- 11 fmol/mg) but were compatible with several groups exhibiting close binding parameters.
