Background: Panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) impacts macular function in eyes with early proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Herein, we used the multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) to objectively investigate this concept.
Methods: In this prospective interventional case series, we enrolled patients with treatment-naive early PDR, absence of clinically significant macular edema, and requirement for PRP.
Background: For years, the Kato-Katz (KK) technique has been considered the gold standard for diagnosing schistosomiasis. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of our previously developed gold nanoparticle-based lateral flow test strip (AuNPs-LFTS) for diagnosing active Schistosoma mansoni with that of the commercially available point-of-care Circulating Cathodic Antigen detection (POC-CCA) kit.
Methods: In this study, we collected sixty positive and twenty negative urine samples from patients in endemic hot spots in the Nile Delta, as well as from patients visiting the internal medicine clinic at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI).
Background: In recent years, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been increasingly recognized as a significant health concern. No previous studies assessed the effect of recommended treatment modalities of patients with OSA on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of different treatment modalities of OSA, such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), mandibular advancement device (MAD), and oral myofunctional therapy (OMT) on subjective symptoms, clinical, and radiographic signs of temporomandibular disorders.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory condition of large intestine that is frequently associated with inflammation of the rectum but often extends proximally to involve other areas of the colon. The ultimate target of therapy is complete healing in the form of clinical remission, complete endoscopic and histological healing, and transmural healing for which endoscopy is mandatory. Colonoscopy may not always be applicable due to possible complications in active ulcerative colitis.

Method: A preclinical cadaveric study followed by application on a case series of BVFP patients. After the preliminary study executed to precisely localize the optimal sites for needle insertion, a prospective interventional study was conducted on 19 subjects presenting with respiratory distress due to BVFP.
Background And Objectives: Addiction is a chronic disorder that comes with emotional and financial burdens. Several neurobiological factors were correlated to opiate-use disorder which is brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF has been found to be involved in long-term potentiation of synaptic strength, a mechanism that is thought to motivate both natural adaption mechanisms as well as the development of addictive behavior.

Method: A retrospective evaluation of all patients diagnosed as having a laryngeal cleft in a tertiary hospital over 10 years was performed. Pre-operative data, conservative and surgical management of cases, and outcomes were collected, tabulated and analysed.
Background: Dysmetabolic iron overload syndrome (DIOS) is characterized by hyperferritinemia and normal transferrin saturation level with components of metabolic syndrome (MS). Among cases of MS, we determined those with DIOS and their characterizations, then we evaluated the association between plasma catecholamines status and hypertension in DIOS.
Methods: We compared 101 hypertensive patients with 50 healthy participants (control group).
This study was performed to evaluate the effect of two commercially available serum-free culture media; serum free medium (SFM) and chemically defined medium (CDM), on the growth rate, antibody productivity and post adaptation cryopreservation and revival reactivity of hybridoma cells compared to the conventional serum based medium (SBM). In addition, the diagnostic efficacy of MAbs secreted in each culture medium was evaluated by testing their performance in sandwich ELISA for antigen detection. Anti- Schistosoma mansoni soluble egg antigen hybridoma cell line (7A/8F) secreting previously characterized IgG Kappa mAbs, were retrieved and propagated in each of the three aforementioned media.
