The SUMO-targeted ubiquitin ligase (STUbL) family is involved in multiple cellular processes via a wide range of mechanisms to maintain genome stability. One of the evolutionarily conserved functions of STUbL is to promote changes in the nuclear positioning of DNA lesions, targeting them to the nuclear periphery. In Schizossacharomyces pombe, the STUbL Slx8 is a regulator of SUMOylated proteins and promotes replication stress tolerance by counteracting the toxicity of SUMO conjugates.

Nevertheless, how cardiac β-adrenoceptors (βARs) signal to the myofilament in healthy and diseased hearts remains poorly understood.

Despite overwhelming evidence that most taxa have individual acoustic signatures, the application of AIID remains challenging and uncommon. Furthermore, the methods most commonly used for AIID are not compatible with many potential AIID applications.

Aerial insectivores may benefit from foraging on insects congregating at light sources. However, ALAN could negatively impact them by increasing nest visibility and predation risk, especially for ground-nesting species like nightjars ().

Understanding when animals migrate is important for managing their populations, but is still difficult despite modelling advancements.
Methods: We designed a model that parametrically estimates the timing of migration from animal tracking data.
Nepal initiated numerous hydropower and irrigation-related infrastructure projects to enhance and promote green energy, water security, and agricultural productivity. However, these projects may pose risks to natural habitats and the well-being of aquatic fauna, leading to significant effects on delicate ecosystems. To understand these potential impacts, it is crucial to gather reliable baseline data on the population status and habitat characteristics of species.

A recent study reported widely used metabolic (lactate) purification of monolayer hiPSC-CM cultures results in an ischemic cardiomyopathy-like phenotype compared with magnetic antibody-based cell sorting (MACS) purification, complicating the interpretation of studies using lactate-purified hiPSC-CMs. Herein, our objective was to determine if use of lactate relative to MACS-purified hiPSC-CMs affects the properties of resulting hiPSC-ECTs.

Here, we show that in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, delocalisation of the SUMO protease Ulp1 from the nuclear envelope results in centromeric defects that can be attributed to hyper-SUMOylation at the nuclear periphery. Unexpectedly, we find that although this localised hyper-SUMOylation impairs centromeric silencing, it can also enhance centromere clustering.

Myosin light chains 1 and 2 (MLC-1 and -2) play important functional roles in regulating the structure of the hexameric myosin molecule. Each of these light chains has an 'atrial' and 'ventricular' isoform, so called because they are believed to exhibit chamber-restricted expression in the heart.

However, this regenerative capacity is lost shortly after birth. Normal postnatal developmental processes and the regenerative capacity of mammalian hearts are tightly linked, but not much is known about how the swine cardiac proteome changes throughout postnatal development.

Topographic variation is an important driver of thermal heterogeneity, but it is limited in relatively flat landscapes, such as the boreal plain and prairie regions of western Canada. Topographic variation within this region is mostly restricted to river valleys and hill systems, and their effects on local climates are not well documented.

The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe has been extensively utilised as a model for studying RNAi pathways. However, this species is somewhat atypical in that TEs are not major targets of RNAi, and instead small RNAs correspond primarily to non-coding pericentromeric repeat sequences, reflecting a specialised role for the pathway in promoting heterochromatin assembly in these regions.

However, thus far, hPSC-CMs in culture have not recapitulated the structural or functional properties of adult CMs . To gain global insight into hPSC-CM biology, we established a multiomics method for analyzing the hPSC-CM metabolome and proteome from the same cell culture, creating multidimensional profiles of hPSC-CMs.

We conducted an operant go/no-go discrimination task to investigate the effect of signal degradation on perceived threat. Chickadees were trained to respond to high-threat northern saw-whet owl (NSWO) or low-threat great horned owl (GHOW) calls that were recorded at short distances, and then tested with high- and low-threat owl calls that were rebroadcast and re-recorded across six distances (25 m, 50 m, 75 m, 100 m, 150 m, and 200 m).
