Meta-holograms under incoherent illumination: image properties and spackle pattern.

We study the properties of the images projected by meta-holograms under broadband incoherent/polychromatic illumination. We show that despite the broadband illumination, some of the coherent properties of the images such as the speckle pattern are retained even for sources with bandwidth of 20 nm. We study the projected images and their speckle pattern properties under various illumination spectra using a set of monochromatic images obtained at different wavelengths.

Treatment Response to Lycopene in Recurrent Prostate Cancer Confirmed on 18 F-Fluciclovine PET/CT.

18 F-fluciclovine (Axumin; Blue Earth Diagnostics, Ltd, Oxford, United Kingdom) PET has shown value in detecting biochemical recurrent prostatic cancer. Lycopene, a plant-based carotenoid, is reported to have potential inhibitory effect on prostate cancer, as a complementary treatment. We report a case of biochemically recurrent prostate cancer showing treatment response to lycopene as seen on an 18 F-fluciclovine PET/CT correlating with serum prostate-specific antigen response.

Correlation of Non-tumoral Liver Dose with Treatment-Related Adverse Events in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated with Glass-Based Yttrium-90 Radioembolization.

Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between non-tumor liver (NTL) dose and adverse events (AE) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with glass-based Yttrium-90 radioembolization (Y90-RE).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with HCC treated with Y90-RE between 2013 and 2018 was performed. Baseline characteristics including demographics and Y90-RE treatment approach were captured.

Bone Scanning Findings in a Patient with Heat Stroke-Induced Rhabdomyolysis.

We present a case that caused a diagnostic dilemma on a bone scan. We also review the broad spectrum of nonmalignant findings that can impact the interpretation of a bone scan and the value of correlative imaging using SPECT/CT for exact localization and characterization of lesions. The imaging features of important benign pathologies-that is, metastatic mimics-are elaborated so that the reader can avoid misinterpretations when reporting them.

Ring Sclerosis in Prostate Cancer: Circle of Malignancy or Benignity?

Prostate cancer osteoblastic metastases may have different morphologies, and some of these may overlap with certain benign bone lesions. In this series of 5 prostate cancer patients, we describe bone lesions with central lucency and surrounding peripheral sclerosis and their varying appearances on different imaging modalities. Although prostate cancer metastases are commonly associated with sclerotic lesions, they can also present as osteolytic or lucent lesions, and these lesions should be carefully evaluated.

From Bloch oscillations to many-body localization in clean interacting systems.

In this work we demonstrate that nonrandom mechanisms that lead to single-particle localization may also lead to many-body localization, even in the absence of disorder. In particular, we consider interacting spins and fermions in the presence of a linear potential. In the noninteracting limit, these models show the well-known Wannier-Stark localization.

Current Status of Molecular Imaging of Infection: A Primer.

Molecular imaging of infection has evolved since its inception. This articles covers a number of infectious processes, including osteomyelitis, diabetic foot infections, periprosthetic infections, cardiovascular infections (including those due to implantable devices), abdominal infections, and fever of unknown origin. Planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT, F-FDG PET/CT, and PET/MRI are also discussed.

Setting Boundaries with Memory: Generation of Topological Boundary States in Floquet-Induced Synthetic Crystals.

When a d-dimensional quantum system is subjected to a periodic drive, it may be treated as a (d+1)-dimensional system, where the extra dimension is a synthetic one. This approach, however, affords only a limited level of control of the effective potential along the synthetic direction. In this work, we introduce a new mean for controlling the Floquet synthetic dimension.

A novel preoperative inflammatory marker prognostic score in patients with localized and metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

Objective: Several inflammatory markers have been studied as potential biomarkers in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), however few reports have analyzed their prognostic value in aggregate and in non-clear cell histologies. We hypothesize that a combination of specific inflammatory markers into an RCC Inflammatory Score (RISK) could serve as a rigorous prognostic indicator of overall survival (OS) in patients with clear cell and non-clear cell RCC.

Methods: Combination of preoperative C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), corrected calcium, and aspartate transaminase to alanine transaminase (AST/ALT) ratio was used to develop RISK.

Electron-Hole Asymmetric Chiral Breakdown of Reentrant Quantum Hall States.

Reentrant integer quantum Hall (RIQH) states are believed to be correlated electron solid phases, although their microscopic description remains unclear. As bias current increases, longitudinal and Hall resistivities measured for these states exhibit multiple sharp breakdown transitions, a signature unique to RIQH states. A comparison of RIQH breakdown characteristics at multiple voltage probes indicates that these signatures can be ascribed to a phase boundary between broken-down and unbroken regions, spreading chirally from source and drain contacts as a function of bias current and passing voltage probes one by one.

Onodera's Prognostic Nutritional Index as an Independent Prognostic Factor in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between the Onodera Prognostic Nutritional Index (OPNI) and overall survival, as well as recurrence-free survival, in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients following nephrectomy.

Materials And Methods: Three hundred forty-one patients who underwent nephrectomy for ccRCC were analyzed. The optimum OPNI cutoff score of 44.

Major histocompatibility complex I upregulation in clear cell renal cell carcinoma is associated with increased survival.

Objective: To examine the prognostic value of tumor major histocompatibility complex I (MHCI) expression on survival and recurrence in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: Fifty-three patients that underwent nephrectomy at our institution for clear cell RCC (T1-T3) with ≥4 years of follow-up were queried from our nephrectomy database. Immunohistochemical staining for MHCI was performed on tumor specimens and MHCI expression was quantified with an automated image analysis technique.

Elevated preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio may be associated with decreased overall survival in patients with metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma undergoing cytoreductive nephrectomy.

Objective: Inflammatory serum markers have proven to be a powerful predictive tool of patient prognosis in cancer treatment for a wide variety of solid organ malignancies, predominantly in the context of localized disease. In this study we evaluated the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a predictive tool in patients with metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: Sixty-four patients with metastatic clear cell RCC undergoing nephrectomy were selected.

C-reactive protein in urologic cancers.

C-reactive protein is an acute-phase reactant that is elevated in the setting of systemic infections, trauma, and malignancies. Urologic cancers have been shown to promote changes in c-reactive protein levels. Pre-treatment serum levels can predict disease characteristics, extent of disease, and prognosticate survival after intervention in renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, upper tract urothelial carcinoma, and penile cancer.

Coexisting edge states and gapless bulk in topological states of matter.

We consider two-dimensional systems in which edge states coexist with a gapless bulk. Such systems may be constructed, for example, by coupling a gapped two-dimensional state of matter that carries edge states to a gapless two-dimensional system in which the spectrum is composed of a number of Dirac cones. We find that, in the absence of disorder, the edge states could be protected even when the two systems are coupled, due to momentum and energy conservation.

Nonequilibrated counterpropagating edge modes in the fractional quantum Hall regime.

It is well established that density reconstruction at the edge of a two-dimensional electron gas takes place for hole-conjugate states in the fractional quantum Hall effect (such as v=2/3, 3/5, etc.). Such reconstruction leads, after equilibration between counterpropagating edge channels, to a downstream chiral current edge mode accompanied by upstream chiral neutral modes (carrying energy without net charge).

Lamotrigine for intractable sciatica: correlation between dose, plasma concentration and analgesia.

An open trial was conducted to study the potential efficacy of the antiepileptic agent lamotrigine in relieving the sciatic pain and the relationship between lamotrigine dosage, plasma concentration and the clinical response. Subsequent to a 1 week washout period from previous analgesics, lamotrigine dose was titrated on a weekly basis from 25 to 400mg/day and was maintained at that dose for additional 4 weeks. Spontaneous pain, the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SFMPQ), the Straight Leg Raise (SLR) test, and range of motion of the lumbar spine (leaning foreword, to the affected side) were used to assess lamotrigine efficacy.

Modulation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes function by incubation with human serum from oxidant-challenged individuals.

Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) from healthy donors were tested for stimulated release of superoxide anions after being incubated with serum of welders and of a group of unexposed individuals. N-Acetylcysteine enhances the action of anti-inflammatory drugs as suppressors of prostaglandin production in monocytes.

The anti-inflammatory effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX), the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Since oxygen free radicals can act as second cellular messengers, especially to modulate the metabolism of arachidonic acid and the prostaglandin tract, it seems plausible that antioxidants might affect the production of prostaglandin by activated cells. This research is focused on the effect of the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on the inhibition of prostaglandin E(2) formation in activated monocytes by specific and non-specific COX inhibitors.

Adhesion molecules of blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes and alveolar macrophages in rats: modulation by exposure to ozone.

1. Exposure to elevated levels of ozone results in an infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) into the lungs. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the ozone-induced inflammatory process is preceded by a change in the expression of adhesion molecules (integrins and selectins) in peripheral blood PMNs and alveolar macrophages in rats.

Paraquat-induced formation of leukotriene B4 in rat lungs: modulation by N-acetylcysteine.

The present work is focused on the formation of the inflammatory mediator leukotriene B4 (LTB4) in the lungs of paraquat (PQ)-intoxicated rats. The levels of LTB4 and the number of neutrophils in lung lavages of PQ-intoxicated rats, measured 12 h after 30 mg/kg PQ, increased significantly compared with those of control animals; administration of 50 mg/kg IP N-acetylcysteine (NAC), 8 h after PQ, inhibited this effect. The release of LTB4 from alveolar macrophages (AM) or alveolar epithelial type II cells from healthy animals incubated with PQ and/or NAC did not offer' an explanation for the effect of these chemicals on LTB4 in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF).

N-acetylcysteine increases the glutathione content and protects rat alveolar type II cells against paraquat-induced cytotoxicity.

A protective effect of N-acetylcysteine in oxidative lung damage was reported by a number of workers; however, the mechanism underlying this effect was not thoroughly elucidated. The present research investigates the protection by N-acetylcysteine against paraquat-induced cytotoxicity to alveolar type II cells, which are known to be specific targets of paraquat toxicity in vivo. We found that addition of 1 mM N-acetylcysteine to alveolar type II cells incubated with 1 mM paraquat reduced the cytotoxic index from 17.
