Cleft Lip and Palate Correction: The Utah Protocol.

Background: Cleft repair remains a contentious issue in craniofacial surgery, especially regarding the optimal timing and techniques. This study aims to present our institutions' current protocol for cleft lip and palate repair, including alveolar bone grafting (ABG).

Methods: A total of 17 patients (20 clefts) treated with the latest protocol from 2016 to 2023 were evaluated.

In this pilot study, human skeletal muscle tissue (iliopsoas) was harvested and allowed to decay under controlled temperature and humidity conditions at predetermined intervals.

Depressed skull fractures occur when broken bones displace inward, meaning that a portion of the outer table of the fracture line lies below the normal anatomical position of the inner table. They typically result from force trauma, when the skull is struck by an object with a moderately large amount of kinetic energy but a small surface area, or when an object with a large amount of kinetic energy impacts only a small area of the skull. In the present case, a depressed fracture of the frontal bone was detected at the autopsy of a 52-year-old man who, according to the belated confession of the assailant, was kicked in the head.

Background: Conventional treatment for alveolar cleft repair is done using autologous iliac crest alveolar bone graft (ABG). However, this method may not be ideal in all patients. Background: Recent studies underscore that healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) HAIs affect rehabilitation outcomes and hospital length of stay (LOS) for severe acquired brain injury (sABI).

Objective: This study aimed to estimate HAI incidence in different sABI rehabilitation settings and determine risk factors and HAI impact on neuromotor and cognitive recovery.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective multicenter study in two semi-intensive units (SICUs), two high-specialty post-acute units (PAUs), and one long-term care (LTC) rehabilitation facility.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in producing functional foods containing encapsulated probiotic bacteria due to their positive effects on human health. According to their perceived health benefits, probiotics have been incorporated into a range of dairy products, but the current major challenge is to market new, multicomponent probiotic foods and supplements. Nevertheless, only a few products containing encapsulated probiotic cells can be found as non-refrigerated products.

Effects of robotic upper limb treatment after stroke on cognitive patterns: A systematic review.

Background: Robotic therapy (RT) has been internationally recognized for the motor rehabilitation of the upper limb. Although it seems that RT can stimulate and promote neuroplasticity, the effectiveness of robotics in restoring cognitive deficits has been considered only in a few recent studies.

Objective: To verify whether, in the current state of the literature, cognitive measures are used as inclusion or exclusion criteria and/or outcomes measures in robotic upper limb rehabilitation in stroke patients.

Background: Robot-assisted arm therapy (RAT) has been used mainly in stroke rehabilitation in the last 20 years with rising expectations and growing evidence summarized in systematic reviews (SRs).

Several techniques were introduced to limit hemorrhage, including tourniquets, tumescent infiltration, and topical agents. To date, no study has comprehensively investigated the available data regarding topical hemostatic agents in burn surgery.

Quantitative Analysis of the Histological Features of Tuberous Breast.

Introduction: Tuberous breast deformity (TB) is a condition mostly characterized by breast stenosis, areolar widening and glandular asymmetry. The most accredited hypothesis describes an abnormal thickening of the fascia corporis that might influence an alteration in the glandular development, limiting the horizontal growth of breast parenchyma. Alterations in the extracellular matrix components (ECM) might be involved in the abnormal breast development.

Work-related and non-work-related fatal road accidents: Assessment of psychoactive substance use in commuting.

Commuting road traffic collisions (RTCs) are one of the main causes of occupational death worldwide, including Italy. Among the prominent yet relatively understudied personal risk factors in the subpopulation of workers, there is the use of psychoactive substances. Since the phenomenon of driving under alcohol and drugs effects in the commuter sub-population has so far been poorly studied, we carried out a study by comparing results obtained from the analysis of commuters and non-commuters.

Evidence of SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies and RNA on Autopsy Cases in the Pre-Pandemic Period in Milan (Italy).

In this study, we analyzed blood samples obtained from 169 cadavers subjected to an autopsy from 1 October 2019 to 27 March 2020. The presence of anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (anti-SARS-CoV-2) antibodies was searched by lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA) and ELISA tests and the SARS-CoV-2 RNA was tested in blood and available lung tissues by real-time PCR (RT-PCR) and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR). Five cases resulted in positives at the serological screening for anti-SARS-CoV-2.
