Impact of busulfan pharmacokinetics on outcome in adult patients receiving an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Busulfan (Bu) is widely used in conditioning regimens before allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation, with variable metabolism due to interindividual differences of pharmacokinetics (PK). The purpose of this study was to correlate pharmacokinetics and clinical outcomes. Lower-AUC, in range-AUC and higher-AUC were defined as ±25% of the targeted Bu-AUC.

Immune thrombocytopenia associated with COVID-19 mRNA vaccine tozinameran - a clinical case and global pharmacovigilance data.

We report the occurrence of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in a 77-year-old man a few days after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine tozinameran (Comirnaty®). The patient was treated with systemic corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulins and eltrombopag. He elected to proceed with the second dose of tozinameran 14 weeks after the first and his platelet count remained stable under a tapered eltrombopag dose.

[Disseminated tuberculosis during induction chemotherapy in acute myeloid leukemia].

A patient with acute myeloid leukemia developed disseminated tuberculosis with cerebral involvement in the early phase of induction chemotherapy before allogenic stem cell transplantation. He presented with persisting fever of unknown origin, and initially misinterpreted organ lesions in CT scans.

Dermatological signs and symptoms of measles: a prospective case series and comparison with the literature.

Background/aims: Because of high vaccination rates, population immunity against measles increased in the western world. Nevertheless, outbreaks are still observed. The aim of this article is to document and describe the natural course of dermatological manifestations and compare it with the literature.

A comparison of heroin chasers with heroin injectors in Switzerland.

In a cross-sectional multicentre study, we compared the characteristics of heroin chasers and heroin injectors. Subjects were 162 primarily opioid-dependent volunteers for whom either chasing (n = 85) or injecting (n = 77) was the principal route of heroin administration. Each subject was rated by means of the Swiss version of the European Addiction Severity Index.

[Results of long-term follow-up of transsexual patients].

From 69 transsexual patients (48 men, 21 women) having consulted the Basel University Psychiatric Outpatient-Department between 1970 and 1990, 13 men-to-woman- and 4 woman-to-man-transsexuals could be examined in a follow-up (5-20 years after the operation). The social conditions and the quality of life of the 13 men-to-woman-transsexuals had significantly deteriorated: 9 of the 13 depend on life annuity or on social welfare assistance. The patients live socially very isolated.

[Depression as a psychophysical illness phenomenon].

The old Greeks understood depression as a somatic process as well as an oppressing experience. Disturbances of the transmitters, ligands and receptors and the decoupling of the feedback-systems of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical systems with an impairment of the immune-system are experienced as depression with its narcissistic depletion and orientation towards conscience and order. Thereby the conscious experience is less differentiated than the complex somatic processes which are proving it.

[Opiate dependence in immigrant from Turkey].

A group of Turkish drug-addicted out-patients (n = 34) is compared to a group of Swiss opiate-addicted outpatients (n = 145) with respect to age, sex, social status, the number of offspring, the age of initiation of drug addiction and the type of the drug used. The results revealed that the Turkish population showed a better prognostic profile when the age of initiation of drug addiction, the familial integration and multiple addiction are taken into account, 97.1% of the Turkish opiate-addicted patients belonged to the second-generation immigrant population.

[Psychoanalytic aspects of crisis and crisis intervention].

"Crisis" is defined as the lack of the development of defense- and/or coping-mechanisms in the conflict between drive-claims or narcissistic needs versus the influences of the super-ego and/or conditions of outside reality. The term crisis, introduced by Erich Lindemann (1944), characterizes a state which was already known to Sigmund Freud. The authors report about six patients, who after the intake of Midazolam or Triazolam suffered from an oneiroid-confusional state in which they carried out complex acts and for which an anterograde amnesia existed. [Assessment of patients with narcissistic neuroses using the Deneke Narcissism Inventory].

In the following paper Deneke's Narzissmusinventar (1989) was used for examining 32 (17 men, 15 women) patients who, after a first interview were diagnosed having a narcissistic personality disorder respectively neurosis. Psychosomatic factors in borderline hypertensive subjects and offspring of hypertensive parents.

Apparent and hidden changes in group members according to the different phases of group psychotherapy.

On a psychological-motivational-vertical axis, the more or less covert experiences of members of a therapeutic group are determining factors, whereas on a sociological-interactional-horizontal axis, the system approach, or the network of preponderantly apparent interactions, is the object of therapeutic interventions. The psychological view is directed toward the individual members, whereas the sociological approach means grasping the group as a whole. In group treatment a shifting resultant is mostly observed, at times stressing the individual-psychological approach and at other times the systemic-interactional approach.
