Advanced reconstructive techniques following orbital exenteration: The role of LCFA free flaps.

Background: Orbital exenteration is a severe and disabling surgical procedure that involves the removal of all orbital contents. Effective reconstruction is crucial to managing the resulting defects. This study aims to propose a reconstructive algorithm utilizing free flaps derived from the lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCFA) system for orbital exenteration defects, based on our clinical experience.

Ectopic olfactory neuroblastoma is associated with increased frequency of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion and reduced disease control: Case series with systematic review and pooled analysis.

Introduction: Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare malignant tumor originating from the olfactory neuroepithelium, typically within the sinonasal cavity. Cases of ONB originating outside of the olfactory cleft area are extremely rare and are referred to as "ectopic" (eONB), in contrast to "orthotopic" tumors (oONB). ONB has been associated with paraneoplastic syndromes (PNSs), including the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).

Probabilistic weather forecasting with machine learning.

Weather forecasts are fundamentally uncertain, so predicting the range of probable weather scenarios is crucial for important decisions, from warning the public about hazardous weather to planning renewable energy use. Traditionally, weather forecasts have been based on numerical weather prediction (NWP), which relies on physics-based simulations of the atmosphere. Recent advances in machine learning (ML)-based weather prediction (MLWP) have produced ML-based models with less forecast error than single NWP simulations.

First evidence of microplastic ingestion by the European grayling, Thymallus thymallus, in sub-Arctic regions: Insights on plastic pollution and preliminary risk assessment in the Teno River (Finland).

Marine litter pollution affects even remote environments such as the Arctic regions and their biodiversity. However, due to the inaccessibility and difficulty of regular observations in these environments, further studies are needed to fill the knowledge gaps. In this regard, the present investigation provides new insights on microplastic contamination levels in Arctic riverfish by analyzing, for the first time, plastic ingestion by the European grayling Thymallus thymallus from the Teno River (northern Finland), an important fishery resource and vulnerable species; and performing a preliminary ecological risk assessment of microplastics in the Finnish river using the European grayling.

Salvage surgery in nasopharyngeal Cancer: Unraveling the efficacy of transnasal endoscopic nasopharyngectomy for advanced stage recurrent tumors.

Objective: This systematic review evaluates the efficacy and morbidity of transnasal endoscopic nasopharyngectomy as a salvage treatment for advanced-stage recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC).

Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a systematic search in Medline, Scopus, and PubMed, identifying studies on transnasal endoscopic nasopharyngectomy for rNPC. Inclusion criteria encompassed histologically confirmed rT3 and rT4 NPC patients previously treated with radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy.

Intraoperative surgical navigation as a precision medicine tool in sinonasal and craniofacial oncologic surgery.

Introduction: Recent evidence supports the efficacy of surgical navigation (SN) in improving outcomes of sinonasal and craniofacial oncologic surgery. This study aims to demonstrate the utility of SN as a tool for integrating surgical, radiologic, and pathologic information. Additionally, a system for recording and mapping biopsy samples has been devised to facilitate sharing of spatial information.

Novel vaccination strategies based on optimal stimulation of CD4 T helper cells for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the oral cavity. Despite recent advances in the field of oral cancer therapy, including the introduction of immunotherapeutic approaches, the 5-year survival rate remains steadily assessed around 50%. Thus, there is an urgent need for new therapeutic strategies.

Endovascular coils extrusion after internal carotid artery occlusion: From management to follow-up.

ICA coil extrusion (ICA-CE) occurs most frequently in the nasopharyngeal/sinonasal site. Evaluating the ICA coils stability, through an angiography, is of primary importance. ICA-CE management needs to be decided based on the patient's symptoms and general status.

Surgical management of advanced sinonasal cancer: a 10-year mono-institutional experience.

Objective: Endoscopic endonasal surgery is effective in the treatment of sinonasal cancers. However, in cases of well-differentiated locally advanced neoplasms as well as recurrences, the most appropriate treatment is debated. The purpose of this study is to report a mono-institutional experience on craniofacial surgery performed in a tertiary-care referral centre.

The "great imitator": IgG4-related disease of the oral cavity. Two case reports and scoping review.

This study aimed to review the lesser-known intraoral manifestations of immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD). In this paper we report an unprecedented case of oral IgG4-RD mimicking angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE), and another case presenting as plasma cell gingivitis. We then performed a scoping review of published cases of IgG4-RD involving the oral cavity.

Turnovers of Sex-Determining Mutation in the Golden Pompano and Related Species Provide Insights into Microevolution of Undifferentiated Sex Chromosome.

The suppression of recombination is considered a hallmark of sex chromosome evolution. However, previous research has identified undifferentiated sex chromosomes and sex determination by single SNP in the greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili). We observed the same phenomena in the golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus) of the same family Carangidae and discovered a different sex-determining SNP within the same gene Hsd17b1.

Recent technological advancements have facilitated the extensive collection of movement data from large-scale fishing vessels, yet a significant data gap remains for small-scale fisheries. This gap hinders the development of consistent exploitation patterns and meeting the information needs for marine spatial planning in fisheries management. This challenge is specifically addressed in the Campania region of Italy, where several Marine Protected Areas support biodiversity conservation and fisheries management.

Learning skillful medium-range global weather forecasting.

Global medium-range weather forecasting is critical to decision-making across many social and economic domains. Traditional numerical weather prediction uses increased compute resources to improve forecast accuracy but does not directly use historical weather data to improve the underlying model. Here, we introduce GraphCast, a machine learning-based method trained directly from reanalysis data.

Trials Informing Back Pain Guidelines Underreport Key Sociodemographic Data.

Introduction: Sociodemographic characteristics are related to low back pain (LBP) outcomes, therefore diverse representation is important when appraising clinical trials. We investigated the reporting of participant sociodemographic variables in trials informing the American College of Physicians (ACP) guidelines for the treatment of LBP.

Methods: Clinical trials supporting recommended interventions in the ACP guidelines were reviewed for reporting of participant sociodemographic data.

Treatment of loco-regional recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in a non-endemic area: oncologic outcomes, morbidity, and proposal of a prognostic nomogram.

Introduction: The study assessed outcomes and toxicities of different treatment modalities for local and/or regional recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in a non-endemic area.

Methods: Patients treated with curative intent for recurrent NPC with salvage surgery, photon-based radiotherapy, proton therapy (PT), with or without chemotherapy, at different Italian referral centers between 1998 and 2020 were included. Adverse events and complications were classified according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events.

A narrative review of social determinants of health education in health professional programs and potential pathways for integration into Doctor of Chiropractic programs.

Objectives: To conduct a narrative review of the literature pertaining to strategies employed by health professional programs to teach social determinants of health (SDOH) and use the results to describe pathways for integrating SDOH education into Doctor of Chiropractic programs (DCPs).

Methods: A narrative review of peer-reviewed literature describing SDOH education in health professional programs within the United States was performed. The results were used to inform potential pathways of integrating SDOH education into all aspects of DCPs.
