Background: The advances in technology have enabled the customization of appliances including mini-screw-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) appliances for skeletal expansion in young adult patients. The study assessed the short-term effects of customized MARPE appliances on the hard tissues, soft tissues, and airway volume over a period of 6 months.

Methods: A total of 15 patients in the age range of 15 to 25 years were treated for transverse maxillary deficiency using a three-dimensional (3D) printed customized MARPE appliance.

Background: Cleft lip with/without palate (CL/P) patients require multiple interdisciplinary procedures at different phases of their life. CL/P patients have a high burden of care that has financial repercussion, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Lowering preventable diseases such as caries can mitigate this challenge.

Over the past three decades, awareness regarding pain management in neonates has risen significantly. It has been very well established that neonates can perceive, feel, and react to stimuli that cause pain and discomfort to them. Neonates admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are repeatedly subjected to invasive treatments, most of which are painful.

Vertical maxillary excess (VME) is a facial condition characterized by an increased height in the lower third of the face, leading to a longer overall facial appearance. This condition is linked to a significant proportion of malocclusions and is often associated with greater dissatisfaction among patients concerning their appearance. The amalgamation of orthodontics with surgery is a desirable protocol to address VME.

The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is inexpensive and widely available. Whether conditions across the human disease landscape can be detected using the ECG is unclear. We developed a deep learning denoising autoencoder and systematically evaluated associations between ECG encodings and ~1,600 Phecode-based diseases in three datasets separate from model development, and meta-analyzed the results.

Class I bimaxillary protrusion is characterized by proclined incisors, a convex facial profile, procumbent lips, and increased lip strain. Treatment includes the extraction of premolars and the mesial movement of the proclined anterior teeth in the extraction spaces to correct the inclination. This case report describes the treatment of an 18-year-old male patient who presented with class I bimaxillary protrusion and procumbent lips.

The class II bimaxillary protrusion malocclusion with class II or end on molar relation is generally associated with procumbency of lips. This case report presents a case of a 17-year-old nongrowing male patient with a traumatized left central incisor due to a fall with a chief complaint of forwardly placed and gap in upper front teeth. The traumatized left central incisor with Ellis class IV fracture was with a loss of crown structure and a poor prognosis of remaining tooth structure.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of coated nanoparticles within orthodontic appliances as a novel strategy to enhance their antibacterial properties.

Material And Methods: A systematic search for relevant articles published between 2013 and March 2024 was conducted across electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and EBSCOhost. Studies meeting pre-defined eligibility criteria were included and assessed for methodological quality.

Article Synopsis
  • Medical record review by physician committees is the current standard for identifying cardiovascular outcomes in clinical trials, but it's time-consuming and inconsistent.
  • A new AI model called "HF-NLP" was developed to automatically assess heart failure outcomes, tested on data from international trials, including the DELIVER trial.
  • The AI achieved 83% agreement with expert committee decisions, and when supplemented with human reviews for uncertain cases, it could reach 91% agreement while significantly reducing workload.

Class III malocclusion presents many challenges due to its varying elements of imbalance in skeletal, dental, and soft tissues. This necessitates a comprehensive treatment plan, including growth modification during the pre-pubertal growth phase, and long-term retention to reduce the chances of orthognathic surgery later. The components of Class III malocclusion include maxillary retrognathism, mandibular prognathism, or, in some cases, a combination of both.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate and compare muscle activity in patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion treated with rigid and flexible fixed functional appliances.
  • Fourteen patients aged 13-17 were divided into two groups: one using a rigid appliance (MPA IV) and the other a flexible appliance (Churro Jumper), with muscle activity measured using EMG.
  • Results indicated both appliances significantly increased muscle activity in the masseter and anterior temporalis muscles, but the flexible Churro Jumper produced a greater increase than the rigid MPA IV during various activities like resting, swallowing, and clenching.

Article Synopsis
  • Advances in orthodontics now allow adult patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion to benefit from non-surgical treatments using temporary anchorage devices (TADs), specifically maxillary molar distalization, instead of relying solely on surgery.
  • This case report details the treatment of a 50-year-old female with Class II malocclusion who utilized an infra-zygomatic crest (IZC) bone screw for effective tooth movement without unwanted side effects.
  • The use of bone screws enhances anchorage, minimizes reciprocal effects, and lessens the need for patient compliance, ultimately improving both dental alignment and facial aesthetics in adult orthodontic patients.

This review aims to evaluate the current ethical dilemmas faced by healthcare practitioners, especially in dentistry, and analyze how conventionalism with ethical norms influences these challenges. By exploring the balance between evolving healthcare practices and established ethical principles, the review aims to provide insights into the ongoing ethical discussions and dilemmas within the field. A systematic search for relevant articles published between 2000 and July 2024 was conducted across various databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCO host.

Transmigration of mandibular canine teeth is a rare dental anomaly characterized by the tooth's aberrant migration through the alveolar bone. This deviation from the expected eruption pathway can lead to tooth impaction, root resorption, periodontal problems, and aesthetic concerns. The exact cause of transmigration is not fully understood, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, developmental, and environmental factors.

Aims: People with disabilities (PWD) often face more significant oral healthcare needs than the general population. This study, conducted in response to the urgent and pressing need for improved dental care for PWD, aims to assess the infrastructural and work process flow of dental centers in Delhi that provide specialized dental care for PWD.

Methods And Results: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare centers in Delhi, evaluating their infrastructure adaptations and work processes in delivering oral healthcare to PWD.

Article Synopsis
  • Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, and its symptoms can range from mild illness to severe conditions like dengue shock syndrome and hemorrhagic fever, with some cases showing neurological issues.
  • The neurological complications are thought to arise from the virus's ability to affect the nervous system or due to immune reactions, and a specific MRI pattern called the double-doughnut sign has been seen in some cases.
  • A reported case of dengue encephalitis involved various movement disorders during recovery, and the patient was treated with steroids and benzodiazepines, eventually leading to symptom improvement; however, such movement disorders are rare and usually resolve on their own.

Odontogenic cysts are fluid-filled sacs arising from tooth-developing tissues within the jawbone, often causing swelling, pain, or displacement of teeth. A dentigerous cyst, specifically encapsulating the unerupted tooth's crown, can interfere with dental development by displacing teeth, causing resorption of adjacent teeth, and complicating dental or surgical interventions. This case report represents a long-term follow-up of a 35-year-old male with a large mandibular dentigerous cyst extending to the lower right border of the mandible, associated with a horizontally impacted third molar in the lower right mandibular region.
