On the use of Europium (Eu) for designing new metal-based anticancer drugs.

Europium oxide (EuO) was used to evaluate the affinity of this rare earth element for interacting with double-stranded (ds) DNA molecules. To perform the study, we used single molecule force spectroscopy with optical tweezers and gel electrophoresis assays. Force spectroscopy experiments show that EuO presents a strong interaction with dsDNA, and the binding is independent on the ionic strength used in the surrounding environment.

This work describes the chromatographic fractionation of the aerial parts of and the structural characterization and determination of the absolute configuration of the isolated compounds as well as their antitumor potential. The HPLC fractionation of the CHCl phase of the MeOH extract from the leaves of led to the isolation of two related sesquiterpene lactones (STLs): calein C () and calealactone B (). Additionally, during the purification process, a derivative of calein C () was formed as a product of the Michael addition of MeOH.

Sleep disturbance and depression in adolescence: an integrative review of literature.

This study investigated the association between sleep disorders and depression in adolescents, PubMed/MedLine, SciELO and Lilacs databases were consulted, with an interval of 7 years (2013-2019), in English, Portuguese and Spanish. An integrative review was carried out where after analyzing the inclusion criteria, 616 articles were selected for reading titles and abstracts and 94 of these were selected for full reading. After the full reading, 15 articles were elected to be part of this review.

Structure Elucidation and Absolute Configuration Determination of Nortriterpenoids from .

In this study, HPLC-PDA-HRMS-SPE-NMR data were used for initial analysis of the CHCl fraction of an EtOH extract of the leaves of . The HRMS, UV, and NMR data obtained from the HPLC-PDA-HRMS-SPE-NMR analysis were used to direct semipreparative HPLC isolation toward nortriterpenoids, which resulted in the isolation of 18 new and highly oxygenated nortriterpenoids (-, -, -, and ), named picravianes C-T. Their structures were determined on the basis of analysis of UV, HRMS, and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, including determination of the relative configuration on the basis of coupling pattern analysis and nuclear Overhauser effect correlations.

OMVs purified by ultracentrifugation from the wild-type strain, but not from a violacein-abrogated mutant ΔvioABCDE, contained violacein and inhibited several Gram-positive bacteria.

The effects of isoflavone supplementation plus combined exercise on salivary markers of oxidative stress in postmenopausal women.

This study tested the effect of isoflavone supplementation in addition to combined exercise training in salivary oxidative stress markers in non-obese postmenopausal women. Thirty-two postmenopausal women without hormone therapy were randomly assigned to exercise + placebo ( = 15) or exercise + isoflavone supplementation ( = 17) groups. They performed 30 sessions of combined exercises (aerobic plus resistance) over ten weeks and consumed 100 mg of isoflavone supplementation or placebo.

This paper presents the identification of the inverse kinematics of a cylindrical manipulator using identification techniques of Least Squares (LS), Recursive Least Square (RLS), and a dynamic parameter identification algorithm based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with search space defined by RLS (RLSPSO). A helical trajectory in the cartesian space is used as input. The dynamic model is found through the Lagrange equation and the motion equations, which are used to calculate the torque values of each joint.

Water-Soluble Glutamic Acid Derivatives Produced in Culture by IS1-A from King George Island, Maritime Antarctica.

A new method of screening was developed to generate 770 organic and water-soluble fractions from extracts of nine species of marine sponges, from the growth media of 18 species of marine-derived fungi, and from the growth media of 13 species of endophytic fungi. The screening results indicated that water-soluble fractions displayed significant bioactivity in cytotoxic, antibiotic, anti-, anti-, and inhibition of proteasome assays. Purification of water-soluble fractions from the growth medium of IS1-A provided the new glutamic acid derivatives solitumine A (), solitumine B (), and solitumidines A-D (-).

Ultrasound-Assisted Enzyme-Catalyzed Hydrolysis of Collagen to Produce Peptides With Biomedical Potential: Collagenase From Aspergillus terreus UCP1276.

Ultrasound has been applied for varied purposes as it provides additional mechanical energy to a system, and is still profitable and straightforward, which are advantages for industrial applications. In this work, ultrasonic treatments were applied to purified collagenase fractions from a fermented extract by Aspergillus terreus UCP 1276 aiming to evaluate the potential effect on collagen hydrolysis. The physical agent was evaluated as an inductor of collagen degradation and consequently as a producer of peptides with anticoagulant activity.

Herein, we use vibrational and electronic CD, NMR, OR, and DFT calculations, to confirm the absolute configuration (AC) of the cytotoxic marine polyketides spongosoritin A (1) and 9,10-dihydrospongosoritin A (2) as (-)-(6R,8R) and (-)-(6R,8S), respectively.
