Europium oxide (EuO) was used to evaluate the affinity of this rare earth element for interacting with double-stranded (ds) DNA molecules. To perform the study, we used single molecule force spectroscopy with optical tweezers and gel electrophoresis assays. Force spectroscopy experiments show that EuO presents a strong interaction with dsDNA, and the binding is independent on the ionic strength used in the surrounding environment.

Its antitumor potential is mostly attributed to the presence of aqueous soluble metabolites; however, the use of ethanol as solvent also permits the extraction of pharmacological compounds with antitumor potential.

The HPLC fractionation of the CHCl phase of the MeOH extract from the leaves of led to the isolation of two related sesquiterpene lactones (STLs): calein C () and calealactone B (). Additionally, during the purification process, a derivative of calein C () was formed as a product of the Michael addition of MeOH.

An integrative review was carried out where after analyzing the inclusion criteria, 616 articles were selected for reading titles and abstracts and 94 of these were selected for full reading. After the full reading, 15 articles were elected to be part of this review.

The HRMS, UV, and NMR data obtained from the HPLC-PDA-HRMS-SPE-NMR analysis were used to direct semipreparative HPLC isolation toward nortriterpenoids, which resulted in the isolation of 18 new and highly oxygenated nortriterpenoids (-, -, -, and ), named picravianes C-T. Their structures were determined on the basis of analysis of UV, HRMS, and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, including determination of the relative configuration on the basis of coupling pattern analysis and nuclear Overhauser effect correlations.

The flexor hallucis longus (FHL) has been used successfully in patients with large chronic Achilles tendon defects. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical outcomes of isolated endoscopic FHL transfer in patients with acute Achilles tendon ruptures at a minimum follow-up of 18 months.

An accurate extraction of the stride intervals is essential for determining stride time variability. Peak detection is a commonly used method for gait segmentation and stride time estimation.

In this work, we demonstrate that OMVs released by the environmental pathogen Chromobacterium violaceum deliver the antimicrobial compound violacein to competitor bacteria, mediating its toxicity in vivo at a long distance. OMVs purified by ultracentrifugation from the wild-type strain, but not from a violacein-abrogated mutant ΔvioABCDE, contained violacein and inhibited several Gram-positive bacteria.

This study evaluated the infectiousness of to phlebotomine sand flies cats infected with L. infantum.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of teleconsultations as support in the care transition of patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) from tertiary to primary care.
Methods: A randomized noninferiority clinical trial was undertaken in patients with CAD from a tertiary hospital in a middle-income country.
Introduction: The aim of this literature review was to determine the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy after bone reconstruction procedures in humans and identify information that may be useful for the development of optimal protocols for hyperbaric oxygen therapy to stimulate bone healing.
Evidence Acquisition: We searched the electronic database PubMed/Medline for studies published between January 1999 and December 2018, using the key words: "bone" or "bone graft" and "mandible reconstruction" or "jaw reconstruction" and "hyperbaric oxygen" or "HBO." First, the titles and abstracts of the studies found were evaluated and those that corresponded to the aims of this review were pre-selected for analysis of the full text.
Metabolomic studies are essential to identify and quantify key metabolites in biological systems. Analysis of amino acids (AA) is very important in target metabolomics studies. Chromatographic methods are used to support metabolite determinations.

The low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has often been used as a noninvasive method to stimulate osteogenesis and reduce the fracture healing time. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the ultrasound exposure on the rat tibia periosteum.

Thirty-two postmenopausal women without hormone therapy were randomly assigned to exercise + placebo ( = 15) or exercise + isoflavone supplementation ( = 17) groups. They performed 30 sessions of combined exercises (aerobic plus resistance) over ten weeks and consumed 100 mg of isoflavone supplementation or placebo.

Photoplethysmography Imaging (PPGI) is a camera-based and non-contact technology for measurement of physiological signals. It has been shown that important physiological parameters such as heart rate, heart rate variability and respiratory rate can be derived from PPGI. However, as is the case with most non-contact measurement techniques, motion artefacts present a major challenge.

A helical trajectory in the cartesian space is used as input. The dynamic model is found through the Lagrange equation and the motion equations, which are used to calculate the torque values of each joint.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new method of screening was developed to generate 770 organic and water-soluble fractions from extracts of nine species of marine sponges, from the growth media of 18 species of marine-derived fungi, and from the growth media of 13 species of endophytic fungi. The screening results indicated that water-soluble fractions displayed significant bioactivity in cytotoxic, antibiotic, anti-, anti-, and inhibition of proteasome assays. Purification of water-soluble fractions from the growth medium of IS1-A provided the new glutamic acid derivatives solitumine A (), solitumine B (), and solitumidines A-D (-).

In this work, ultrasonic treatments were applied to purified collagenase fractions from a fermented extract by Aspergillus terreus UCP 1276 aiming to evaluate the potential effect on collagen hydrolysis. The physical agent was evaluated as an inductor of collagen degradation and consequently as a producer of peptides with anticoagulant activity.

Herein, we use vibrational and electronic CD, NMR, OR, and DFT calculations, to confirm the absolute configuration (AC) of the cytotoxic marine polyketides spongosoritin A (1) and 9,10-dihydrospongosoritin A (2) as (-)-(6R,8R) and (-)-(6R,8S), respectively. The AC of natural 1 and 2 has so far relied upon comparisons of OR values only.
