[F]Flotaza for Aβ Plaque Diagnostic Imaging: Evaluation in Postmortem Human Alzheimer's Disease Brain Hippocampus and PET/CT Imaging in 5xFAD Transgenic Mice.

The diagnostic value of imaging Aβ plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD) has accelerated the development of fluorine-18 labeled radiotracers with a longer half-life for easier translation to clinical use. We have developed [F]flotaza, which shows high binding to Aβ plaques in postmortem human AD brain slices with low white matter binding. We report the binding of [F]flotaza in postmortem AD hippocampus compared to cognitively normal (CN) brains and the evaluation of [F]flotaza in transgenic 5xFAD mice expressing Aβ plaques.

Interobserver agreement and prognostic value of image-based scoring systems in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis.

Background: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a cholestatic liver disease that progresses to cirrhosis and liver failure. The Anali and Amsterdam scores are based upon imaging features on MRI and ERCP, respectively.

Aims: We aimed to compare the interobserver variability and performances of these scores.

However, lack of definitional clarity may hinder understanding of this emerging management strategy and impede translation into clinical practice. We describe the range of definitions provided in the primary outpatient PE literature.

Hospitalization Is Less Common in Ambulatory Patients With Acute Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosed Before Emergency Department Referral Than After Arrival.

Background: Emergency department (ED) patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) may undergo diagnostic pulmonary imaging as an outpatient before referral to the ED for definitive management. This population has not been well characterized.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included ambulatory adults with acute objectively confirmed PE across 21 EDs in an integrated health care system from January 1, 2013, through April 30, 2015.

Biodecolourisation of some industrial dyes by white-rot fungi.

Eight white-rot fungal strains were screened for biodecolourisation of eight dyes commercially employed in various industries. Decolourisation of Poly R 478 was used as a standard to ascertain the dye-decolourisation potential of various fungi. All the fungi tested significantly decolourised Poly R 478 on solid agar medium.

Occupational exposure to diesel engine emissions and risk of cancer in Swedish men and women.

Objective: To investigate the risk of cancer among workers exposed to diesel emissions in a large record-linkage study from Sweden.

Methods: The Swedish Cancer Environment Register III contains nationwide data on cancer incidence during 1971-1989, by occupation and industry of employment as reported in the 1960 and 1970 censuses. After excluding farmers, we classified job and industry titles according to estimated probability and intensity of exposure to diesel emissions.

The physical restraint of children: is it therapeutic?

Restraint and seclusion are compared as responses to dangerous aggression, and a number of theoretical warrants for the use of physical restraint with children are reviewed, with a primary focus on its attachment-promoting possibilities. Parallels are drawn between sound physical restraint procedures and the temporal phases upon which the holding therapies are based.
