The diagnostic value of imaging Aβ plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD) has accelerated the development of fluorine-18 labeled radiotracers with a longer half-life for easier translation to clinical use. We have developed [F]flotaza, which shows high binding to Aβ plaques in postmortem human AD brain slices with low white matter binding. We report the binding of [F]flotaza in postmortem AD hippocampus compared to cognitively normal (CN) brains and the evaluation of [F]flotaza in transgenic 5xFAD mice expressing Aβ plaques.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers developed a radiolabeled version of Lecanemab ([I]IPC-Lecanemab) that showed stronger binding to Aβ plaques in the grey matter of postmortem AD brains compared to white matter, indicating its effectiveness.
  • * The findings suggest that [I]IPC-Lecanemab could serve as a valuable PET imaging radiotracer to visualize Aβ in vivo, aiding in treatment planning and evaluating therapeutic outcomes in AD.

Background: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a cholestatic liver disease that progresses to cirrhosis and liver failure. The Anali and Amsterdam scores are based upon imaging features on MRI and ERCP, respectively.

Aims: We aimed to compare the interobserver variability and performances of these scores.

Drug-induced pancreatitis (DIP), while not a major cause of acute pancreatitis, remains a debilitating diagnosis resulting in significant patient morbidity and mortality. The diagnosis includes first diagnosing acute pancreatitis, second ruling out more common etiologies (alcohol abuse, gallstones, etc.), and third documenting a thorough history (in particular medications).

Purpose: The evidence for the effectiveness of outpatient treatment of low-risk patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) continues to mount. However, lack of definitional clarity may hinder understanding of this emerging management strategy and impede translation into clinical practice. We describe the range of definitions provided in the primary outpatient PE literature.

Background: Emergency department (ED) patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) may undergo diagnostic pulmonary imaging as an outpatient before referral to the ED for definitive management. This population has not been well characterized.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included ambulatory adults with acute objectively confirmed PE across 21 EDs in an integrated health care system from January 1, 2013, through April 30, 2015.

Eight white-rot fungal strains were screened for biodecolourisation of eight dyes commercially employed in various industries. Decolourisation of Poly R 478 was used as a standard to ascertain the dye-decolourisation potential of various fungi. All the fungi tested significantly decolourised Poly R 478 on solid agar medium.

Objective: To investigate the risk of cancer among workers exposed to diesel emissions in a large record-linkage study from Sweden.

Methods: The Swedish Cancer Environment Register III contains nationwide data on cancer incidence during 1971-1989, by occupation and industry of employment as reported in the 1960 and 1970 censuses. After excluding farmers, we classified job and industry titles according to estimated probability and intensity of exposure to diesel emissions.

Restraint and seclusion are compared as responses to dangerous aggression, and a number of theoretical warrants for the use of physical restraint with children are reviewed, with a primary focus on its attachment-promoting possibilities. Parallels are drawn between sound physical restraint procedures and the temporal phases upon which the holding therapies are based.

Intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS) have emerged as one of the most widely-employed placement prevention models in the field of Family-Based Services. Most IFPS evaluations have reported positive outcomes, but some results have been mixed. The use of heterogeneous client samples may explain some of the equivocal findings, so a study was designed to assess maltreatment group differences in a relatively large sample of families referred by Child Protective Service (CPS) agencies.
