Nurse practitioners (NPs) are important providers of primary care to underserved populations, particularly in areas with lower physician supply. In 2023, California implemented new regulations aimed at improving access to care, especially primary care services, by providing a pathway for NPs to practice without formal supervision after 3 years of practice and without any physician relationship after 5 years of practice. This study used data from a representative survey of California-licensed NPs fielded in late 2022 to examine NPs' current practice and intentions following implementation of the new regulations.

Protein-protein interactions underpin nearly all biological processes, and understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern these interactions is crucial for the progress of biomedical sciences. Given their frontline role in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand (ANZ) healthcare, trainee medical officers (TMOs) will play a crucial role in the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) for clinical care, ongoing medical education and research. As 'digital natives', particularly those with technical expertise in AI, TMOs should also be leaders in informing the safe uptake and governance of AI within ANZ healthcare as they have a practical understanding of its associated risks and benefits. While investigating methods to target gene delivery vectors to specific cell types, we examined the potential of using a nanobody against the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein receptor-binding domain to direct lentivirus infection of Spike-expressing cells. Using four different approaches, we found that lentiviruses with surface-exposed nanobody domains selectively infect Spike-expressing cells. Targeting is dependent on the fusion function of the Spike protein, and conforms to a model in which nanobody binding to the Spike protein triggers the Spike fusion machinery.

Is morality the product of multiple domain-specific psychological mechanisms, or one domain-general mechanism? Previous research suggests that morality consists of a range of solutions to the problems of cooperation recurrent in human social life. This theory of 'morality as cooperation' suggests that there are (at least) seven specific moral domains: family values, group loyalty, reciprocity, heroism, deference, fairness and property rights. However, it is unclear how these types of morality are implemented at the neuroanatomical level.

Dyslexia is a learning difficulty with neurodevelopmental origins, manifesting as reduced accuracy and speed in reading and spelling. It is substantially heritable and frequently co-occurs with other neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Here, we investigate the genetic structure underlying dyslexia and a range of psychiatric traits using results from genome-wide association studies of dyslexia, ADHD, autism, anorexia nervosa, anxiety, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and Tourette syndrome.

The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the promise of monoclonal antibody-based prophylactic and therapeutic drugs and revealed how quickly viral escape can curtail effective options. When the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant emerged in 2021, many antibody drug products lost potency, including Evusheld and its constituent, cilgavimab. Dyslexia and pain have recently been shown to correlate on a genetic level, but there has been little exploration of this association on the phenotypic level despite reports of increased pain in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which commonly co-occurs with dyslexia. In this study we test for an association between reading ability, which is the primary feature of dyslexia, and pain both in childhood and adulthood. Logistic regression modeling was used to test associations between reading ability in childhood and pain from childhood to midlife in a large UK birth cohort; the 1958 National Child Development Study.

Case: A 77-year-old woman who sustained a distal radius and ulna fracture underwent open reduction internal fixation through a standard flexor carpi radialis (FCR) approach. On dissection, a proximal division of the median nerve was identified, with an aberrant motor branch crossing radial to ulnar deep to FCR and superficial to flexor pollicis longus.

Conclusion: Although many anatomic variants of the median nerve have been described, the current case demonstrates a particularly important median motor branch variant, imposing a substantial risk of iatrogenic injury during a standard FCR approach.
