The dynamics and functionality of proteins are significantly influenced by their interaction with water. For lyophilised ( ≤ 0.05 where = g of HO per g of protein) and weakly hydrated systems ( ≤ 0.

Atomistic Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations probe structural and dynamical features related to system functionality. However, while simulations in homogenous aqueous environments are routine, dehydrated model assemblies are a challenge with systems investigated in-silico needing careful consideration; simulated systems potentially differing markedly despite seemingly negligible changes in procedure.

The alterations effects on the central nervous system related to their use can be psycholeptic, psychoanaleptic, or psychodiseptic and are able to generate tolerance, addiction, or dependence phenomena, creating social and public order problems. In this scenario, the analytical evaluations that aim to determine these analytes in seized nonbiological samples, and which assume the character of judicial evidence, must meet high analytical requirements of reliability, transparency, and procedures uniformity at a national level.

The chromatographic separation was carried out using an Hypersil Gold PFP (50 × 2.1 mm, 1.

The new sampling device, especially in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic that forced many countries to impose mandatory facemasks, allows an easy monitoring of the subject's exposure to different compounds they may come in contact with, actively or passively. The project combines the advantages of a fabric-phase sorptive membrane (FPSM) as an sampling device with a validated LC-MS/MS screening procedure able to monitor more than 739 chemicals with an overall analysis time of 18 min.

Cocaine, benzoylecgonine (BEG), cocaethylene, Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-9-THC), buprenorphine, 6-acetylmorphine (6AM), morphine, codeine, methadone, 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine (EDDP), amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), 3,4-Methylenedioxy-N-ethylamphetamine (MDE), ketamine, N-methyl-1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-butanamine (MBDB) were determined in a chromatographic run of 12min only with no sample pre-treatment, after the addition of 15 different internal standards (ISs). The method met all requirements in terms of linearity, accuracy (precision and trueness), recovery, and stability requested by FDA guidelines.

Various protocols have been devised for the genomic DNA extraction from human tissues and forensic stains, such as dental tissue that is the skeletal part that better preserves DNA over time. However DNA recovery is low and protocols require labor-intensive and time-consuming step prior to isolating genetic material.

Cholesteatoma is a destructive lesion involving the temporal bone, which may induce severe complications due to its expansion and erosion of adjacent structures. Bacterial biofilm plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of many otolaryngologic inflammatory/infectious chronic diseases. In this pilot study, we investigated, by means of cultural examination and with scanning electron microscope, the presence of bacterial biofilm in a series of samples from the epitympanic and mastoid region in patients affected by cholesteatoma and from the promontory region in patients with healthy mucosa who were undergoing to stapes surgery.

Objectives: We assess the association between the presence of biofilms and cilial damage in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), describe the microorganisms associated with samples that exhibited cilial loss and biofilms, and demonstrate the absence of ciliary injury and biofilms in similarly prepared "normal" controls.
Methods: We examined samples of ethmoid mucosa obtained from 24 patients who underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery for CRS. Samples from a control group (20 healthy subjects) were also examined.
Square-wave anodic-stripping voltammetry (SWASV) was set up and optimized for simultaneous determination of cadmium, lead, and copper in siliceous spicules of marine sponges, directly in the hydrofluoric acid solution (approximately 0.55 mol L(-1) HF, pH approximately 1.9).

Overall, 25 surgical specimens (15 adenoids, 10 tonsils) were examined from the upper respiratory tract, from 15 paediatric patients (mean age 6 years). All patients were affected by recurrent and/or chronic adenoiditis and adenotonsillitis unresponsive to selective antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy.

The aerosol mass was determined by differential weighing of filters carried out in a clean chemistry laboratory under controlled temperature and humidity. A two-step sequential extraction procedure was used to separate the water-soluble and the insoluble (dilute-HCl-extractable) fractions.

Irradiation at 365 nm leads to a photostationary state in which only 50% of the azobenzene units have isomerized, in contrast with the behavior of para-aminoazobenzene, whose photoconversion is larger than 80%. In the case of the macrocycle, a faster cis --> trans thermal back-reaction is observed.
