The objective of this retrospective study was to assess the bone quality of healing mandibular fracture sites by measuring the Hounsfield units (HU) on computed tomographic (CT) images obtained presurgery and postsurgery in patients treated with rigid internal fixation (RIF). The HU values of healing fracture sites were compared to those of corresponding nonfractured (control) sites on the opposing side and cervical vertebrae sites in the same patients. In total, 31 patients with 45 mandibular fractures treated with RIF underwent presurgical and postsurgical CT examinations.

Sialolithiasis is the most common cause of sialadenitis in the submandibular gland, in which the highest incidence of this condition occurs, among the major salivary glands. This could be explained by the anatomy of Wharton's duct, and the chemical composition of the saliva produced by this gland. There are several alternatives and techniques for the treatment of sialolithiasis, including lithotripsy, sialoendoscopy, and conservative removal of the sialoliths or complete removal of the submandibular gland, through the transoral and extraoral routes for access to the gland.

Objectives: Heterotopic bone formation within a muscle is designated as 'myositis ossificans', and it is associated with multiple aetiologies, such as trauma, genetic predisposition, post-infection, or undetermined causes. When the disease develops as a result of a trauma, the myositis ossificans is classified as 'myositis ossificans traumatica'. In this case report, a case of myositis ossificans traumatica is described, emphasizing its imaging features.

Methods: Eighty surgeries were performed on healthy patients using three randomized double-blind drug protocols: group 1 (G1), amoxicillin (1 g) 1 h before surgery + 500 mg 8/8 h for 7 days; group 2 (G2), 1-g amoxicillin 1 h before surgery plus placebo, with identical appearance to G1, 8/8 h for 7 days; and group 3 (G3), placebo 1 h before surgery and 500 mg 8/8 h for 7 days. The primary outcome criterion was mouth opening, and the secondary outcome criteria were facial edema and pain.
