Active surveillance of adverse events following COVID-19 vaccines in a tertiary care hospital.

Background: Vaccination is a safe and effective way to prevent disease and save lives, but it may also produce some undesirable adverse events (AEs)which may affect healthy individuals. Therefore, the monitoring of AE following immunization (AEFIs) is necessary. The objective of this study was to assess the AEs following COVID-19 vaccinations in a tertiary care hospital.

Comorbidities influence the predictive power of hematological markers for mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused unprecedented mortality and has stretched the health infrastructure thin worldwide, especially in low- and middle-income countries. There is a need to evaluate easily available biomarkers for their clinical relevance for poor outcomes in severe cases of COVID-19. It is also known that comorbidities affect these biomarkers with or without COVID-19.

Effectiveness of a Daily Rounding Checklist on Processes of Care and Outcomes in Diverse Pediatric Intensive Care Units Across the World.

Background: Implementation of checklists has been shown to be effective in improving patient safety. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of implementation of a checklist for daily care processes into clinical practice of pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) with limited resources.

Methods: Prospective before-after study in eight PICUs from China, Congo, Croatia, Fiji, and India after implementation of a daily checklist into the ICU rounds.

Dengue infection can have spectrum of manifestations, often with an unpredictable clinical progression and outcome. There have been increasing reports of atypical manifestations. Abdominal pain or tenderness and persistent vomiting (warning signs) are present in the majority of cases with severe dengue prior to clinical deterioration.

Transverse colon perforation due to carcinoma rectum: an unusual presentation against Laplace's law.

We present a case of distal large bowel obstruction, in the setting of a competent ileocaecal valve, the caecum is the most common site of perforation (for Laplace's law). We describe a case of obstruction at the rectum due to constricting carcinomatous growth, presenting with perforation of transverse colon (against Laplace's law). A 60-year-old women presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain.

Reversible adsorption-desorption oscillations of nanoparticles on a patterned hydrogel surface induced by a pH oscillator in a closed chemical system.

Oscillatory adsorption-desorption of Ag nanoparticles on a pH-responsive hydrogel surface was induced by a pH oscillator in a closed reaction system. The hydrogel surface was prepared as a honeycomb-patterned film using a honeycomb-patterned polystyrene film as a template to speed up the response time in the stimuli-responsive hydrogel. The surface morphology and hydrophobic interaction of the patterned hydrogel surface were significantly altered by the pH change of the aqueous solution that came into contact with the gel.
