In this study, we investigated the factors that influence families' decision-making processes about whether to carry a pregnancy to term or to terminate it in cases of fetal anomalies. A questionnaire was administered to 25 participants who chose to terminate their pregnancy and 25 participants who chose to carry their pregnancy to term. Among the sociodemographic characteristics investigated, only monthly income significantly differed between the groups ( = .

Introduction: There exists a prevailing concern regarding the heightened susceptibility of women with a solitary kidney to unfavorable consequences during pregnancy. Irrespective of the underlying etiology, individuals with a solitary kidney are advised to have regular annual screenings for blood pressure and urinalysis due to their increased susceptibility to developing proteinuria, hypertension, and renal failure.

Objective: To investigate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with a maternal solitary kidney by comparing maternal and fetal outcomes to those of healthy pregnant women.

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic performance of six different currently available guidelines including the American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging and Reporting Data System (ACR-TIRADS), Kwak-TIRADS, Korean TIRADS (K-TIRADS), European TIRADS (EU-TIRADS), American Thyroid Association (ATA) and Chinese TIRADS (C-TIRADS), in differentiating malignant from benign thyroid nodules (TN).

Materials And Methods: In this single-center study, between January-2007 and September-2023, ultrasound (US) images of TNs that were pathologically proven either by surgery or by fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), were retrospectively evaluated and categorized according to six different currently available guidelines. Area under curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV, respectively) and miss rates for malignancy (MRM) were calculated for each guideline.

The current study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of six benzenesulfonamide-based Schiff base derivatives (7-12) with various electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents (-F, -CI, -Br, -CH, and -OCH) and the assessment of their antiproliferative activities against human lung (A549) and liver (HepG2) cancer cell lines using in vitro and in silico approaches. The structures of the synthesized compounds (7-12) were elucidated by elemental analysis and FT-IR, 1D (H, C, APT, and DEPT-135), and 2D (HMQC and HMBC) NMR spectroscopies. The cytotoxic activities of the targeted compounds were determined at various concentrations against these cancer cell lines for 72 h, using the MTT method.

Article Synopsis
  • A recent discovery links the ZFYVE19 mutation to non-syndromic cholestasis, characterized by high gamma-glutamyl transferase levels, and potentially causing neonatal and intrahepatic cholestasis.
  • A 4-year-old patient with a confirmed ZFYVE19 mutation, diagnosed at age 2, showed elevated liver enzymes but maintained normal liver function; treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid effectively reduced symptoms.
  • Continued monitoring and whole exome sequencing (WES) are recommended to further understand the mutation's effects and possible liver complications in similar cases of unexplained liver issues.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore how the thickness of the lower uterine segment (LUS) relates to the timing of labor in women with dichorionic twin pregnancies experiencing preterm labor symptoms.
  • - It involved measuring LUS thickness and other cervical parameters in pregnant women between 24 and 32 weeks, and highlighted that thinner LUS correlates with earlier labor onset, specifically noting significant differences in thickness measurements between those giving birth before and after 34 weeks.
  • - The findings suggest that LUS thickness could be a useful predictor for identifying the risk of spontaneous preterm birth in this group of pregnancies.

Metal complexes [FeL], [NiL]·HO, [CuL], and [CoL]·HO were formed by the ligand (, 4-fluoro-'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide) reacting with Fe(OAc), Ni(OAc)·4HO, Cu(OAc)·HO, and Co(OAc)·4HO. The produced compounds were characterized using a variety of methods, such as NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR, magnetic susceptibility, elemental analysis, and molar conductivity. The spectrum of the data indicates that the geometry of the complex molecular structures is octahedral with six coordination sites.

In this paper, we present the synthesis and characterization of two known sulfonyl hydrazides ( and ) and their new sulfonyl hydrazone derivatives (-), as well as in vitro and in silico investigations of their cytotoxic properties against human lung (A549) and human breast (MCF-7) cancer cell lines. The target compounds (-) obtained in high yields were synthesized for the first time by a multi-step reaction, and their structures were confirmed by elemental analysis and various spectral techniques, including FT-IR, H-, and C-NMR. The antiproliferative profiles of these compounds (, , and -) in this study were determined at concentrations of 200, 100, 50, and 25 µM against selected cancer cell lines for 72 h using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) method.

Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are used in the treatment of epilepsy, a neurodegenerative disease characterized by recurrent and untriggered seizures that aim to prevent seizures as a symptomatic treatment. However, they still have significant side effects as well as drug resistance. In recent years, especially 1,3,4-thiadiazoles and 1,2,4-triazoles have attracted attention in preclinical and clinical studies as important drug candidates owing to their anticonvulsant properties.

  • The study analyzes data from the CF Registry of Turkey to measure the rate of decline in pulmonary function (ppFEV1) among cystic fibrosis patients and identifies risk factors related to this decline.
  • It found that patients with more severe disease (ppFEV1 < 40) had poorer nutritional status and a higher prevalence of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection compared to those with better lung function.
  • The results emphasize the need for regular monitoring of patients with normal initial ppFEV1 and early treatment for P. aeruginosa infections, highlighting the crucial role of proper nutrition in managing cystic fibrosis.

Introduction: Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator drugs target the underlying defect and improve CFTR function. They are a part of standard care in many countries, but not all patients are eligible for these drugs due to age and genotype. Here, we aimed to determine the characteristics of non-eligible patients for CFTR modulators in the CF registry of Turkey (CFRT) to highlight their clinical needs.

The intercalation of pyrazolone-based oxalamide metal complexes into Na-montmorillonite (Na-MMT) for catalytic liquid-phase oxidation of phenol using HO was undertaken by a flexible ligand method using metal ions including Mn(II), Zn(II), and Sn(II). First, the metal ions were exchanged with the sodium ions of Na-MMT, and then these metal ions were complexed with a new pyrazolone-based oxalamide ligand. The intercalated metal complexes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis.

The present study aims to develop a delivery system that can carry small interference RNA (siRNA) with small-molecule chemotherapeutic drugs, which can be used in cancer treatment. The drug delivery system combines the advantages of a therapeutic agent with two different mechanisms to ensure that it is used efficiently for cancer therapy. In this study, a nanostructured lipid carrier system was prepared, Docetaxel was loaded to these systems, and the Eph siRNA was adsorbed to the outer surface.

The virulence factor Type IV pili (T4P) are surface appendages used by the opportunistic pathogen for twitching motility and adhesion in the environment and during infection. Additionally, the use of these appendages by for biofilm formation increases its virulence and drug resistance. Therefore, attenuation of the activity of T4P would be desirable to control infections.
