Differential abundance analysis of infant 16S microbial sequencing data is complicated by challenging data properties, including high sparsity, extreme dispersion and the relative nature of the information contained within the data. In this study, we propose a pairwise ratio analysis that uses the compositional data analysis principle of subcompositional coherence and merges it with a beta-binomial regression model. The resulting method provides a flexible and easily interpretable approach to infant 16S sequencing data differential abundance analysis that does not require zero imputation.

We explored whether human spatial cognition is enhanced for high-calorie foods, in a large multisensory experiment that covertly tested the location memory of people who navigated a maze-like food setting. Dairy farms with intensive grazing systems combine grazing with supplemental feeding, which can be challenging because an incorrect balance between fresh grass allowance and feed supplementation results in inefficient use of the pasture, lower feed efficiency, and potential decreases in animal production. When estimating fresh grass allowance, we currently do not correct for the formation of rejected patches (RP) surrounding excreta, which can lead to overestimation of the potential fresh grass intake and hampers optimal grazing. After screening MA lipid fractions in an ELISA format, a polar lipid fraction was selected as antigen because of its superior recognition by serum antibodies in experimentally infected pigs.
