The TAR DNA Binding Protein 43 (TDP-43) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of human neurodegenerative diseases and exhibits hallmark neuropathology in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Here, we explore its tractability as a plasma biomarker of disease and describe its localization and possible functions in the cytosol of platelets. Novel TDP-43 immunoassays were developed on three different technical platforms and qualified for specificity, signal-to-noise ratio, detection range, variation, spike recovery and dilution linearity in human plasma samples.

Objective: To evaluate the prediction performance of E-Cervix™ for preterm birth in twin pregnancies with threatened preterm labor.

Methods: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study of twin pregnancies presenting to obstetrics triage for threatened preterm labor (PTL) between 23 0/7 - 33 6/7 weeks who received screening for PTL with transvaginal ultrasound cervical length (TVU CL) and cervical elastography with E-Cervix™ at the time of triage. Cervical elastography parameters were examined and compared between women who delivered preterm and those who did not.

Background: Preterm birth is a major cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. It is unclear whether the introduction of a universal transvaginal ultrasound cervical length screening program in women at low risk for preterm delivery is associated with a reduction in the frequency of preterm birth.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that the introduction of a midtrimester universal transvaginal ultrasound cervical length screening program in asymptomatic singleton pregnancies without prior preterm delivery would reduce the rate of preterm birth at <37 weeks of gestation.

Sometimes the replacement procedure over a Seldinger guidewire could be an appreciable technique especially reusing the same vein and the same tunnel of the previous catheter, with local anesthesia.

How to remove a tunneled and cuffed central venous catheter quickly and safely? A little trick useful in children.

Background: The aim of this study was to present our experience with a use of own variation of the traditional technique for tunneled and cuffed catheters removal.

Methods: From July 2021 to March 2023, 110 tunneled cuffed centrally inserted central catheters (CICCs) were removed at the Vascular Access Unit of ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia using our particular technique; pediatric patients were 15 admitted to "Children Hospital" of Brescia. The catheter is cut with its adhesions above the cuff and then pulled out.

A search for a long-lived, heavy neutral lepton (N) in 139  fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13  TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The N is produced via W→Nμ or W→Ne and decays into two charged leptons and a neutrino, forming a displaced vertex. The N mass is used to discriminate between signal and background.

Prospective validation of VEGF and eNOS polymorphisms as predictors of first-line bevacizumab efficacy in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Bevacizumab (Bev) plus chemotherapy is a standard first-line treatment in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), however to date no predictive factors of response have been identified. Results of our previous analysis on patients enrolled in a randomized prospective phase III multicenter study (ITACa study) showed a predictive value of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) polymorphism (VEGF + 936), a 27-nucleotide variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene and eNOS + 894 polymorphism. mCRC patients, treated with Bev plus chemotherapy, were included in this prospective validation trial.

The identification of predictive factors for treatment of pancreatic cancer (PC) is an unmet clinical need. In the present work, we analyzed blood-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) from patients with advanced PC in order to find a molecular signature predictive of response to therapy. We analyzed samples from 21 patients with advanced PC, all receiving first-line treatment with gemcitabine + nab-paclitaxel.

This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events.

Search for Lepton-Flavor Violation in Z-Boson Decays with τ Leptons with the ATLAS Detector.

A search for lepton-flavor-violating Z→eτ and Z→μτ decays with pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses 139  fb^{-1} of Run 2 pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV and is combined with the results of a similar ATLAS search in the final state in which the τ lepton decays hadronically, using the same data set as well as Run 1 data. The addition of leptonically decaying τ leptons significantly improves the sensitivity reach for Z→ℓτ decays.
