Aims/hypothesis: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) improves glycaemic outcomes in the outpatient setting; however, there are limited data regarding CGM accuracy in hospital.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, observational study comparing CGM data from blinded Dexcom G6 Pro sensors with reference point of care and laboratory glucose measurements during participants' hospitalisations. Key accuracy metrics included the proportion of CGM values within ±20% of reference glucose values >5.
Using 3D modeling, we studied the influence of orbital tumor morphology on post-operative outcomes. Orbital tumor volume did not influence postoperative complication rates. Less spherical tumors may be correlated with a more extensive surgical approach.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Setting: Single surgeon series at tertiary academic medical center from 2002 to 2021.
Objective: To characterize the diagnostic yield of patients undergoing evaluation for superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS), and identify alternative conditions diagnosed in patients suspected of, but not ultimately diagnosed with, SCDS.
Methods: Diagnostically undifferentiated adult patients suspected of having SCDS were identified between 2016 and 2021 at a tertiary academic medical system. Patients were categorized by diagnostic testing, radiographic superior semicircular canal (SSC) abnormality, symptoms, evaluating clinician specialty, operative intervention, and diagnosis.

Importance: Image guidance is an important adjunct for endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. However, current systems require bulky external tracking equipment, and their use can interrupt efficient surgical workflow.
Objective: To evaluate a trackerless surgical navigation system using 3-dimensional (3D) endoscopy and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms in the anterior skull base.
Objective: To validate how an automated model for vestibular schwannoma (VS) segmentation developed on an external homogeneous dataset performs when applied to internal heterogeneous data.
Patients: The external dataset comprised 242 patients with previously untreated, sporadic unilateral VS undergoing Gamma Knife radiosurgery, with homogeneous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. The internal dataset comprised 10 patients from our institution, with heterogeneous MRI scans.
Background: Since 2016, an array of claims and public discourse have circulated in the medical community over the origin and nature of a mysterious condition dubbed "Havana Syndrome," so named as it was first identified in Cuba. In March 2023, the United States intelligence community concluded that the condition was a socially constructed catch-all category for an array of health conditions and stress reactions that were lumped under a single label.
Aims: To examine the history of "Havana Syndrome" and the many factors that led to its erroneous categorization as a novel clinical entity.

We evaluated the safety and efficacy of automated insulin delivery with the iLet bionic pancreas (BP) in adults with CFRD in a single-center, open-label, random-order, crossover trial.
Research Design And Methods: Twenty participants with CFRD were assigned in random order to 14 days each on the BP or their usual care (UC).
Surgical removal of unexploded ordnance has been described in literature, usually in the context of the military. We describe a case of a 31-year-old gentleman who presented with a traumatic fireworks injury resulting in an unexploded three-inch aerial shell lodged in his left upper thigh. The sole regional Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) expert was not available, so a local pyrotechnic engineer was contacted and he helped in identification of the firework.

Sub-Saharan Africa has a high otolaryngologic disease burden exacerbated by an inadequate number of otolaryngologists. The Otolaryngology department at Mbarara University of Science & Technology in Uganda is addressing this problem by having created Uganda's second national residency training program in 2010. We chronicled an early period in the program's development by reporting surgical case quantity and complexity, as defined by "key indicator procedure" classification per the United States Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and interpreting it with respect to a timeline of significant events.

Patient: A 76-year-old man presented with a nearly 20-year history of chronic otomastoiditis and cholesteatoma with ultimate progression to severe CSBO with involvement of the petrous apex, clivus, and craniocervical junction.
Interventions: CSBO was managed with culture-directed antibiotic therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, and surgical intervention including serial combined endoscopic transmastoid and transsphenoidal debridements.
Quantitative real-time PCR and genomic sequencing have become mainstays for performing molecular detection of biological threat agents in the field. There are notional assessments of the benefits, disadvantages, and challenges that each of these technologies offers according to findings in the literature. However, direct comparison between these two technologies in the context of field-forward operations is lacking.
