Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is overrepresented in prison populations globally. Although pharmacological treatment has generally been demonstrated to be an effective tool for managing ADHD symptoms in the general population, it remains controversial in the prison context. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The way in which parental posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) unfold in the first year after a cancer diagnosis in their child is poorly understood. The aims of this study were to identify parental PTSS trajectories and to examine couple-related predictors (dyadic coping and we-disease appraisals), sociodemographic predictors (education and sex), and medical predictors (child's physical impairment) of trajectory membership.
Method: A 1-year prospective study was conducted, and 157 parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer were assessed.
Introduction: The non-perfused volume divided by total fibroid load (NPV/TFL) is a predictive outcome parameter for MRI-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) treatments of uterine fibroids, which is related to long-term symptom relief. In current clinical practice, the MR-HIFU outcome parameters are typically determined by visual inspection, so an automated computer-aided method could facilitate objective outcome quantification. The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a deep learning-based segmentation algorithm for volume measurements of the uterus, uterine fibroids, and NPVs in MRI in order to automatically quantify the NPV/TFL.

In couples dealing with health problems, we-disease appraisals can influence dyadic coping strategies to alleviate distress. This study describes the development and validation of a self-report scale to assess we-disease appraisals of health problems. Our goal was to test feasibility of perfusion fraction mapping by intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) modeling using diffusion-weighted MRI as method for visual evaluation of MR-HIFU treatment progression.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: This study evaluates the nnU-Net for segmenting brain, skin, tumors, and ventricles in contrast-enhanced T1 (T1CE) images, benchmarking it against an established mesh growing algorithm (MGA).
Methods: We used 67 retrospectively collected annotated single-center T1CE brain scans for training models for brain, skin, tumor, and ventricle segmentation. An additional 32 scans from two centers were used test performance compared to that of the MGA.
Contemporary biomechanical modeling of traumatic brain injury (TBI) focuses on either the global brain as an organ or a representative tiny section of a single axon. In addition, while it is common for a global brain model to employ real-world impacts as input, axonal injury models have largely been limited to inputs of either tension or compression with assumed peak strain and strain rate. These major gaps between global and microscale modeling preclude a systematic and mechanistic investigation of how tissue strain from impact leads to downstream axonal damage throughout the white matter.

In early 2021, members of Congress cast a series of high-profile roll call votes forcing them to choose between condoning or opposing Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Substantial majorities of House Republicans supported Trump, first by opposing the certification of electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania on January 6th, then by opposing the president's impeachment for inciting the attack on the US Capitol, and then by opposing a bill that would have created a national commission to investigate the events of January 6th. Identifying PTSS that have the most impact on functional impairment can broaden our understanding of post-trauma reactions and guide the selection of treatment components and techniques required to help patients to restore functioning following trauma exposure.

Background: In digital pathology, image properties such as color, brightness, contrast and blurriness may vary based on the scanner and sample preparation. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are sensitive to these variations and may underperform on images from a different domain than the one used for training. Robustness to these image property variations is required to enable the use of deep learning in clinical practice and large scale clinical research.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: In a setting with an extensive SARS-CoV-2 test strategy and availability of effective vaccines, we aimed to investigate if patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRD) face greater risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 and have a worse prognosis of increased risk of hospitalisation, assisted ventilation and death compared with the general population.
Methods: This was a nationwide, population-based register study that compared outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Danish patients with IRD (n=66 840) with matched population controls (n=668 400). The study period was from March 2020 to January 2023.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: No method is available to determine the non-perfused volume (NPV) repeatedly during magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) ablations of uterine fibroids, as repeated acquisition of contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (CE-T1w) scans is inhibited by safety concerns. The objective of this study was to develop and test a deep learning-based method for translation of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) into synthetic CE-T1w scans, for monitoring MR-HIFU treatment progression.
Methods: The algorithm was retrospectively trained and validated on data from 33 and 20 patients respectively who underwent an MR-HIFU treatment of uterine fibroids between June 2017 and January 2019.

In previous studies, orientation effects of R relaxation in the mature brain's white matter have been found to be described by a susceptibility-based model of diffusion through local magnetic field inhomogeneities created by the diamagnetic myelin sheaths. Orientation effects in human newborn white matter have not yet been investigated.
