Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and eating disorders (EDs) frequently co-occur, with PTSD potentially worsening ED treatment outcomes. Integrated and concurrent interventions that treat both conditions together have been recommended, but no best practices exist. This case series of nine patients provides preliminary data on Written Exposure Therapy (WET), a brief, low-resource PTSD intervention, delivered concurrently with inpatient or day hospital ED treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • A study referred to as SUPRATOL investigated the effects of transoral laser microsurgery for supraglottic laryngectomy, comparing its outcomes for swallowing and quality of life to traditional open surgery, revealing similar oncologic results but limited data on swallowing rehabilitation and QoL before this trial.
  • The trial included 102 patients across 26 hospitals in Germany, with the main goal of measuring aspiration-free swallowing after one year and exploring various related factors such as tracheostomy needs and overall survival.
  • Results showed high rates of aspiration-free swallowing at the 12-month mark, with a majority of patients still managing well with swallowing, although some required tracheostomy and PEG tube interventions, indicating mixed results on QoL

Purpose: Vocal fatigue-related symptoms, frequent in patients with voice disorders, are reliably quantifiable with the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI) in several languages. The main aim of this work was to investigate the content and construct validity of the German Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI-D) by comparison with the German Voice Handicap Index 9 international (VHI9i) and the Vocal Tract Discomfort Scale (VTD). Moreover, the scale and retest reliability were investigated.

This paper summarizes key shifts in judicial decisions relating to public health powers during the pandemic and the implications of those decisions for public health practice. Then, it gives a preview and call for partnership in developing a legal framework for authority that guides public health to better activities, processes, and accountability in service of the public's health.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease for which there is no cure. Accumulating research results suggest a role for extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the pathogenesis of COPD. This study aimed to uncover the involvement of EVs and their molecular cargo in the progression of COPD by identification of EV-associated protein and microRNA (miRNA) profiles.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1As) are being used as approved or off-label treatments for weight loss. As such, there has been increasing concern about the potential for GLP-1As to impact eating disorder (ED) symptomatology. This article seeks to (1) review the current state of knowledge regarding GLP-1As and ED symptomatology; (2) provide recommendations for future research; and (3) guide ED clinicians in how to discuss GLP-1As in clinical practice.

Fibroblasts are the main producers of extracellular matrix (ECM) responsible for ECM maintenance and repair, a process often disrupted in chronic lung diseases. The accompanying mechanical changes adversely affect resident cells and overall lung function. Numerous models have been used to elucidate fibroblast behavior that are now evolving toward complex three-dimensional (3-D) models incorporating ECM, aiming to replicate the cells' native environment.

Carrion decomposition is fundamental to nutrient cycling in terrestrial ecosystems because it provides a high-quality resource to diverse organisms. A conceptual framework incorporating all phases of carrion decomposition with the full community of scavengers is needed to predict the effects of global change on core ecosystem processes. Because global change can differentially impact scavenger guilds and rates of carrion decomposition, our framework explicitly incorporates complex interactions among microbial, invertebrate, and vertebrate scavenger communities across three distinct phases of carcass decomposition.

Objective: This review will identify and summarize the literature on the integrated treatment of comorbid eating disorders and substance use disorders, focusing on clinical practice guidelines and treatment studies.

Introduction: Eating disorders and substance use disorders are the deadliest psychiatric conditions, frequently co-occur, and are linked to greater symptom severity and poorer treatment outcomes. Despite repeated calls for their integrated treatment, such an approach has rarely been empirically evaluated.

Objective: Alcohol and cannabis use motives are often studied as contributors to risky substance use patterns. While various measures for capturing such motives exist, most contain 20+ items, which render their inclusion in certain research designs (e.g.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent findings indicate that stimulants, specifically lisdexamfetamine (LDX), may effectively treat bulimia nervosa (BN), with a study analyzing its effects on various symptoms over eight weeks.
  • Participants showed significant improvements in hunger, food-related impulsivity, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors, while qualitative interviews highlighted themes like increased quality of life and hope for recovery.
  • However, the open-label nature of the trial limits conclusions about the medication's efficacy, suggesting that further research, including controlled trials, is needed to validate these results.

The lymphatic vascular system plays a fundamental role in inflammation by draining interstitial fluid, immune cells, antigens, and inflammatory mediators from peripheral tissues. Site-specific delivery of the lymphangiogenic growth factor VEGF-C alleviates acute inflammation in mouse models of psoriasis and chronic colitis by enhancing local drainage. However, it is unclear whether therapeutically induced lymphangiogenesis is transient or long-lasting and whether it might prevent relapses of inflammation.

A significant body of research has investigated the impacts of social influence and social selection on binge drinking and risk factors for binge drinking in emerging adults; however, one risk factor for binge drinking that has yet to be thoroughly investigated in this regard is drinking motives. Preliminary research suggests the motives of others may impact emerging adults' own alcohol use indirectly through their own motives (i.e.

Early life exposures to antibiotics negatively impact respiratory health and are associated with an increased risk of childhood asthma. It is explained that the lung is inclined to develop chronic inflammatory phenotypes due to early antibiotic alteration in the gut microbiome. We investigated whether a gut-targeted antibiotic has an impact on the lung microbiome and on pulmonary immunity.

Findings: Physical examination showed strangulation marks and neck emphysema.

Seed dispersal directly affects plant establishment, gene flow and fitness. Understanding patterns in seed dispersal is, therefore, fundamental to understanding plant ecology and evolution, as well as addressing challenges of extinction and global change. Our ability to understand dispersal is limited because seeds may be dispersed by multiple agents, and the effectiveness of these agents can be highly variable both among and within species.

Background: Robin sequence is defined as the triad of micrognathia, glossoptosis, and upper airway obstruction. In up to 85 percent, it is associated with cleft palate. Many studies have reported worse speech development in Robin sequence children after cleft palate repair.

Background: Many individuals with eating disorders remain symptomatic after a course of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy; therefore, the development of innovative treatments is essential.

Method: To learn more about the current evidence for treating eating disorders with stimulants, we searched for original articles and reviews published up to April 29, 2021 in PubMed and MEDLINE using the following search terms: eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, stimulants, amphetamine, lisdexamfetamine, methylphenidate, and phentermine.

Results: We propose that stimulant medications represent a novel avenue for future research based on the following: (a) the relationship between eating disorders and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); (b) a neurobiological rationale; and (c) the current (but limited) evidence for stimulants as treatments for some eating disorders.

Background: The first wave of the SARS-CoV‑2 pandemic required substantial changes in the teaching of medical students, with strict avoidance of direct contact between students and patients. Therefore, the teaching format "bedside teaching" was implemented and conducted as an interactive video-based distance bedside teaching.

Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze a students' evaluation of this teaching concept in otorhinolaryngology.
