Objective: To characterize the performance of titanium mesh (TM) (off-label) for rigid chest wall reconstruction at a single institution over a 5-year period.

Methods: Between January 1, 2019, and May 15, 2023, 22 patients (median age, 61 years) underwent chest wall resection with TM reconstruction at Cleveland Clinic. Indications for resection included sarcoma (n = 15), breast cancer (n = 2), lung cancer (n = 2), chondroblastoma (n = 1), and benign neoplasm (n = 2).

Objectives: There is a paucity of data describing the frequency and complications of body piercing injuries (BPI) in the United States.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to identify emergency department (ED) visits for BPI from 2011-2020 and to estimate prevalence among US individuals ≤24 years of age. Additionally, estimates for infections, requirements for hospitalization/transfer, and exploring significant associations were investigated.

The GluN3A subunit of -methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) plays an established role in synapse development, but its contribution to neural circuits in the adult brain is less clear. Recent work has demonstrated that in select cell populations, GluN3A assembles with GluN1 to form GluN1/GluN3A receptors that are insensitive to glutamate and instead serve as functional excitatory glycine receptors (eGlyRs). A magnetic massive star has experienced a stellar merger.

Massive stars (those ≥8 solar masses at formation) have radiative envelopes that cannot sustain a dynamo, the mechanism that produces magnetic fields in lower-mass stars. Despite this, approximately 7% of massive stars have observed magnetic fields, the origin of which is debated. We used multi-epoch interferometric and spectroscopic observations to characterize HD 148937, a binary system of two massive stars.

Ref-NeRF: Structured View-Dependent Appearance for Neural Radiance Fields.

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) is a popular view synthesis technique that represents a scene as a continuous volumetric function, parameterized by multilayer perceptrons that provide the volume density and view-dependent emitted radiance at each location. While NeRF-based techniques excel at representing fine geometric structures with smoothly varying view-dependent appearance, they often fail to accurately capture and reproduce the appearance of glossy surfaces. We address this limitation by introducing Ref-NeRF, which replaces NeRF's parameterization of view-dependent outgoing radiance with a representation of reflected radiance and structures this function using a collection of spatially-varying scene properties.

Novel Repair of Clamshell Thoracotomy Sternal Dehiscence after Lung Transplant: A Case Report.

Bilateral transverse thoracosternotomy, or "clamshell" thoracotomy, can be complicated by dehiscence. A 65-year-old male underwent lung transplantation via clamshell thoracotomy, with subsequent sternal dehiscence on postoperative day 11. Upon repair, the previous sternal wires had pulled through, so a Sternal Talon connected to a Recon Talon was utilized to re-approximate the inferior sternum.
