Background: The increasing use of non-specific immunoglobulins (NSIGs) and their current shortage show a need for NSIGs' use prioritization. Data from a clinical perspective are necessary, mainly for pediatric patients.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the level of clinical evidence (LoE) of the indications that NSIGs are used for, the reasons for discontinuation, and the costs invested.

Patients hospitalized with COVID-19 have low levels of vitamins and trace elements. This could lead to a post-acute COVID-19 condition (PCC) that can worsen a patient's quality of life. We aimed to study the baseline micronutrient status of patients and assess whether a multiple micronutrient supplement (MMS) taken for 2 weeks at the first sign of COVID-19 symptoms would be able to reduce the incidence of PCC.

Methylone is one of the most common synthetic cathinones popularized as a substitute for 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, midomafetamine) owing to its similar effects among users. Both psychostimulants exhibit similar chemistry (i.e.

In recent years, the consumption of energy drinks (EDs) has become increasingly popular, especially among adolescents. Caffeine, a psychostimulant, is the main compound of EDs which also contain other substances with pharmacological effects. This review aims to compile current evidence concerning the potential interactions between EDs, medicines, and drugs of abuse as they are frequently consumed in combination.

Kick&kill strategies combining drugs aiming to reactivate the viral reservoir with therapeutic vaccines to induce effective cytotoxic immune responses hold potential to achieve a functional cure for HIV-1 infection. Here, we report on an open-label, single-arm, phase I clinical trial, enrolling 15 early-treated HIV-1-infected individuals, testing the combination of the histone deacetylase inhibitor romidepsin as a latency-reversing agent and the MVA.HIVconsv vaccine.

Introduction: Based on the advances in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), currently available disease-modifying treatments (DMT) have positively influenced the disease course of MS. However, the efficacy of DMT is highly variable and increasing treatment efficacy comes with a more severe risk profile. Hence, the unmet need for safer and more selective treatments remains.

T cell bispecific antibodies (TCBs) are engineered molecules that include, within a single entity, binding sites to the T cell receptor and to tumor-associated or tumor-specific antigens. The receptor tyrosine kinase HER2 is a tumor-associated antigen in ~25% of breast cancers. TCBs targeting HER2 may result in severe toxicities, likely due to the expression of HER2 in normal epithelia.

Background: Nyaditum resae® (NR) is a galenic preparation of heat-killed Mycobacterium manresensis, a new species of the fortuitum complex, that is found in drinkable water, and that has demonstrated to protect against the development of active TB in a murine experimental model that develop human-like lesions.

Methods: Double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Clinical Trial (51 volunteers included). Two different doses of NR and a placebo were tested, the randomization was stratified by Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI)-positive (n = 21) and LTBI-negative subjects (n = 30).

Background & Aims: Chronic outcome following acute idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is not yet defined. This prospective, long-term follow-up study aimed to analyze time to liver enzyme resolutions to establish the best definition and risk factors of DILI chronicity.

Methods: 298 out of 850 patients in the Spanish DILI registry with no pre-existing disease affecting the liver and follow-up to resolution or ⩾1year were analyzed.

Background: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) provide recommendations to assist health professionals and patients in the process of making decisions for specific clinical conditions to improve the quality of the patient care. However, there are concerns about the quality of some CPGs. The aim of this study was to review the quality of CPGs in pharmacologic management of peripheral artery disease (PAD).

A Phase I interventional Clinical Trial was performed with a potential tuberculosis vaccine, based on detoxified cellular fragments of M. tuberculosis, named RUTI. The objective was to evaluate the safety profile and T-cell immune responses over a 6-month period following subcutaneous inoculation.

Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening disorder of excessive serotoninergic activity often due to drug interactions. We report a case of serotonin syndrome induced by pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions between three different selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and possibly ciprofloxacin. Extreme caution is necessary in patients treated with serotonin-reuptake inhibitors who need to be switched to another antidepressant or when they require the addition of concomitant drugs, especially serotoninergic drugs and isoenzimes of cytochrome P450 inhibitors.

A chronic adverse reaction may occur in some instances of drug-induced liver injury (DILI), even despite drug cessation. In our study, we obtained records from a Spanish registry and evaluated cases of DILI with biochemical evidence of long-term damage. Chronic outcome was defined as a persistent biochemical abnormality of hepatocellular pattern of damage more than 3 months after drug withdrawal or more than 6 months after cholestatic/mixed damage.

A 50-year-old man with ankylosing spondylitis who developed neutropenia after treatment of etanercept, with two positive rechallenges, and after the first infliximab infusion, is described. Although leukopenia and neutropenia related to etanercept and infliximab have been described as rare adverse events from clinical trials data, their mechanism of action are unknown. This patient developed recurrent mild neutropenia after exposition of two different antitumor necrosis factors; therefore, it seems to be an adverse reaction related to the therapeutic group.

Amoxicillin-clavulanate (AC) hepatotoxicity has been reported to exhibit a higher predominance of cholestatic types of damage, especially in males. However, the determinants of its clinical expression are unknown. This study prospectively evaluated the profile of AC hepatotoxicity.
