Background: Inconsistencies in the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) factor structure and current research and clinical guidelines highlight the need for continued exploration of its psychometric evidence. Furthermore, only one study has assessed its measurement invariance (MI), while the only FSFI psychometric study conducted in Chile lacks quality and representativity.

Aim: Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the FSFI (ie, structural and convergent validity, and reliability) in a Chilean sample of women, while also examining MI across relationship status and age groups.

Background: Pre-clerkship medical students benefit from practice questions that provide rationales for answer choices. Creating these rationales is a time-intensive endeavor. Therefore, not all practice multiple choice questions (MCQ) have corresponding explanations to aid learning.

Although chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is diagnosed by identifying a circulating B-cell clone that exceeds 5x106/μL, additional distinct clones (ADC) have been identified in various studies. Notably, the numbers of ADC documented in these studies has increased as the various technologies evolved. To better define the frequency and the characteristics of ADCs in CLL, we used a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platform that affords high sequencing depth along with steps that limit overcounting to analyze IGHV-IGHD-IGHJ gene rearrangements in circulating CD5+ B cells from 57 patients.

Recent years have brought a much-needed paradigm shift to the management and treatment of mature B-cell lymphomas. Pathophysiologic and clinical heterogeneity within the various subtypes have historically contributed to treatment challenges and differences in outcomes. Novel genomic tools and therapeutic modalities give promise for improved patient outcomes, but are also making treatment planning increasingly complex.

Article Synopsis
  • B cells can be engineered to produce therapies for genetic disorders, metabolic diseases, and cancer.
  • A method was developed to collect, expand, differentiate, and track B cells from non-human primates (NHPs) using radioactively labeled imaging techniques.
  • The study showed that infused B cells successfully targeted the bone marrow, spleen, and liver without serious side effects, indicating the potential for repeated treatments and the viability of NHPs as a model for human B cell medicine research.

Background: The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) stands out for its utility and widespread use to measure sexual function in men. However, it lacks consistency in its internal latent structure across studies, has not been evaluated for measurement invariance, and has not undergone psychometric validation for its 15-item form in Spanish among South American countries.

Aim: To examine the IIEF's psychometric evidence (ie, structural/criterion validity and reliability) in a sample of adult men and determine its measurement invariance across relationship status (single vs in a relationship) and age generations (generations Z, Y/millennials, and X).

The population of very elderly patients (aged 80 years and older) in intensive care units (ICUs) is steadily growing. These patients have unique physiological, cognitive, functional, and social characteristics that affect their entire ICU course. Immobility, delirium, dysphagia, malnutrition, and polypharmacy are among the most common geriatric syndromes in these patients, and they contribute to a higher risk of acute and long-term functional decline and mortality.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an uncommon condition resulting from the autoimmune destruction of platelets. A man in his mid-30s, who had received three doses of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine a year prior, was diagnosed with ITP 3 weeks after contracting COVID-19. Mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 induced thrombocytopenia may include bone marrow depletion, coagulation consumption, mutations resulting in cytokine release or molecular mimicry leading to autoimmunity.

Article Synopsis
  • * Many patients in the US still receive chemoimmunotherapy, indicating a difference between current treatment guidelines and what is actually happening in practice.
  • * The Lymphoma Research Foundation organized a workshop with CLL/SLL experts to create consensus recommendations that serve as a practical clinical guide, aiming to improve treatment choices for patients in real-world settings.

Beliefs about a social system help people understand and evaluate their environment and are related to their behavior within a society. When people believe that they live in a just social system and develop positive attitudes about the social and political environment, they experience greater satisfaction and well-being. This phenomenon is known as a palliative effect.

B cells are an attractive platform for engineering to produce protein-based biologics absent in genetic disorders, and potentially for the treatment of metabolic diseases and cancer. As part of pre-clinical development of B cell medicines, we demonstrate a method to collect, expand, differentiate, radioactively label, and track adoptively transferred non-human primate (NHP) B cells. These cells underwent 10- to 15-fold expansion, initiated IgG class switching, and differentiated into antibody secreting cells.

Background: informCLL is the largest US-based prospective, observational registry of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) initiating FDA-approved treatment in the era of targeted therapy.

Patients And Methods: Patients were enrolled between October 2015 and June 2019. Data were collected for baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, outcomes, and safety.

Background: Tumor Lysis syndrome (TLS) is a well-recognized medical emergency in patients with cancer diagnosis. The diagnostic criteria of TLS have been revised many times since it was recognized, but still have many drawbacks limit diagnosis accuracy.

Summary: Autopsy studies in patients with perimortem diagnoses of TLS have shown that they may not have actually had TLS.

Objectives: Addressing migrant population's sexual health needs is essential, given the high vulnerability of this population, especially during migratory trajectories and when accessing health care in destination countries. The aim of this scoping review is to identify and describe the structural and intermediary determinants and their dimensions, which negatively influence sexual healthcare access in migrant population in the world in the last 20 years.

Study Design: Scoping review.

Background: With the increasing recognition of the significance of arachnid conservation, it is crucial to allocate greater efforts towards implementing targeted monitoring programmes. Despite recent studies, our understanding of arachnid populations in Portugal remains limited. This study serves as the initial inventory of arachnids (Araneae and Opiliones) within the Castro Verde Special Protection Area (SPA) located in Beja, southern Portugal.

In recent years, the treatment paradigm for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has moved away from chemoimmunotherapy (CIT) toward the use of novel targeted agents. Commercially available drugs, including Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitors and the BCL2 inhibitor venetoclax, often used in combination with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies, are now the mainstay of therapy both in the frontline and in relapsed settings. As the landscape for CLL management evolves, therapeutic endpoints need to be redefined.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) clones contain subpopulations differing in time since the last cell division ("age"): recently born, proliferative (PF; CXCR4CD5), intermediate (IF; CXCR4CD5), and resting (RF; CXCR4CD5) fractions. Herein, we used deuterium (H) incorporation into newly synthesized DNA in patients to refine the kinetics of CLL subpopulations by characterizing two additional CXCR4/CD5 fractions, i.e.

Background: Despite recent approvals of lifesaving treatments for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), real-world data on the tolerability of the Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor ibrutinib for CLL treatment are lacking, especially in Black patients.

Objective: To expand upon a previously reported retrospective chart review of ibrutinib-treated patients with CLL to increase the number of sites and the enrollment period in first-line (1L) and relapsed/refractory (R/R) settings with a subanalysis based on ethnicity.

Patients And Methods: Adults with CLL who initiated ibrutinib treatment from five centers were followed for ≥ 6 months.
