Recent advancements in biotechnology forged the path for clinical trials in dish (CTiDs) to advance as a popular method of experimentation in biomedicine. CTiDs play a fundamental role in translational research through technologies such as induced pluripotent stem cells, whole genome sequencing, and organs-on-a-chip. In this review, we explore advancements that enable these CTiD biotechnologies and their applications in animal testing, disease modeling, and space radiation technologies.

Large amounts of COI sequence data have been produced that hold promise for rapid species identification, for example, for biosecurity. The fruit fly tribe Dacini holds about a thousand species, of which 80 are pests of economic concern.

As pandemics add extra stressors, the study explored paramedics' lived experience of the barriers to, and enablers of, responding to suspected or confirmed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
Methods: This exploratory-descriptive qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to investigate Queensland metropolitan paramedics' experiences of responding to cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Research examining the potential of the psychedelic experience to alter attitudes toward death is steadily emerging. However, the specific mechanisms leading to this change are not well understood. The present study investigated the potential relationship between changes in metaphysical beliefs and changes in death anxiety following a single significant psychedelic experience.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOur understanding of ocean-cloud interactions and their effect on climate lacks insight into a key pathway: do biogenic marine emissions form new particles in the open ocean atmosphere? Using measurements collected in ship-borne air-sea interface tanks deployed in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean, we identified new particle formation (NPF) during nighttime that was related to plankton community composition. We show that nitrate ions are the only species for which abundance could support NPF rates in our semicontrolled experiments. Nitrate ions also prevailed in the natural pristine marine atmosphere and were elevated under higher sub-10 nm particle concentrations.

Although current approaches inferring fully bifurcating phylogenies based on concatenated datasets provide simple and robust answers to many species relationships, they may be inaccurate because the models ignore inter-specific gene flow and incomplete lineage sorting. To examine the potential error resulting from ignoring gene flow, we generated both a RAD-seq and a 500 protein-coding loci highly multiplexed amplicon (HiMAP) dataset for a monophyletic group of 12 species defined as the Bactrocera dorsalis sensu lato clade.

Introduction: Implementation of interprofessional education (IPE) is recognised as challenging, and well-designed programs can have differing levels of success depending on implementation quality. The aim of this review was to summarise the evidence for implementation of IPE, and identify challenges and key lessons to guide faculty in IPE implementation.
Methods: Five stage scoping review of methodological characteristics, implementation components, challenges and key lessons in primary studies in IPE.
Objective: To investigate the prevalence of intravenous and interosseous device insertion in the prehospital setting by prehospital clinicians, and the characteristics of patients receiving these devices as reported to the United States of America National Emergency Medical Services Information System.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of the United States of America National Emergency Medical Services Information System public release dataset for the 2016 calendar year.
Results: A total of 20,454,975 events involving 40,438,959 procedures were analysed.
Topoisomerase II Binding Protein 1 (TOPBP1) is an important activator of the DNA damage response kinase Ataxia Telangiectasia and Rad3-related (ATR), although the mechanism by which this activation occurs is not yet known. TOPBP1 contains nine copies of the BRCA1 C-terminal repeat (BRCT) motif, which allows protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the electronic Ambulance Report Form (medical record) and Computer Aided Dispatch system from the 1st July 2016 until 30th June 2017.
