High phosphorus Ni-P coatings, both unreinforced and modified by the addition of alumina (AlO) and zirconia (ZrO) nanoparticles, were manufactured by electroless deposition technique and heat-treated with different temperature and duration schedules. Considerations for Expanding Research and Clinical Care for the Neurodivergent Gender Diverse Population.

Little is currently known about the relationship between gender diversity and neurodiversity, although a growing body of researchers and clinicians are searching for more information to better serve this population. Gender-diverse individuals are three to six times more likely than cisgender individuals to identify as autistic or to report possible undiagnosed autism or autistic traits. Many gender-diverse individuals experience a shortage of gender-affirming medical care and are disproportionately impacted by barriers to mental health services.

The (IOSPS-HW): Development and Psychometric Properties of a New Instrument to Assess Individual and Organizational Stress Factors in Periods of Pandemics.

The validation and psychometric properties of the (IOSPS-HW) were presented. This is a new measure to assess individual factors related to the health and well-being of individuals, such as family and personal relationships, as well as organizational factors related to the management of the pandemic, including workplace relationships, job management and communication. Across two studies conducted at different time points of the pandemic, psychometric evidence of the IOSPS-HW is presented.

Lessons Learned: The Varied Responses of Massachusetts' Local Health Departments During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Context: Massachusetts' decentralized public health model holds tightly to its founding principle of home rule and a board of health system established in 1799. Consequently, Massachusetts has more local health departments (n = 351) than any other state. During COVID-19, each health department, steeped in centuries of independence, launched its own response to the pandemic.

Are Small Animal Practitioners Occupationally Exposed to Leptospirosis? Results of a Serological Survey.

Leptospirosis is a worldwide zoonosis frequently responsible for clinical disease in dogs and rarely reported in human people. The risk of human exposure to Leptospira has been investigated in a sample population working in the northeast of Italy, a geographical area with high endemicity of canine leptospirosis. Two-hundred twenty-one human serum samples were analyzed for Leptospira microagglutination test (MAT): 112 clinical freelance small animal practitioners (exposed subjects) and 109 people not occupationally exposed to Leptospira-infected animals (unexposed subjects) were voluntarily enrolled.

Perception of the COVID-19 pandemic among people with spinal cord injury: an Italian survey.

Study Design: An observational study based on an online survey to explore if the participant had experienced (1) cancellation or delay of scheduled health services (2) reduction of assistance provided by a caregiver (3) barriers to social participation and recreational activities. Three validated questionnaires to investigate well-being and symptoms of anxiety and depression were also administered.

Objectives: Our main aim was to quantify the obstacles experienced by adults living with SCI in Italy during COVID-19 pandemic, to explore the presence of depression and anxiety symptoms and to quantify subjective well-being.

Active sleep is associated with the face preference in the newborns who familiarized with a responsive face.

Aim of this study was to investigate the preferential looking behaviour, subsequent to a familiarization task (8-min) with a previously responsive or motionless face, before and after a sleep cycle. Moreover, the role of the active sleep in memory consolidation of the responsive or motionless faces was explored. Hypotheses were that the newborns undergoing a motionless familiarization will exhibit a novelty effect (preference for the novel face) whereas the newborns undergoing a responsive familiarization will show a familiarity effect (preference for the known face) before and after the sleep cycle; moreover, the amount of active sleep will be associated with the looking time at the known face after a sleep cycle.

Analysis of the histomorphologic profile of invasive cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma from 2002 to 2011 in a pathology laboratory in the region of Campos Gerais, Brazil.

Methods: Abstracts submitted to the 2010 American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (AIBD), and the American Gastroenterological Association abstracts at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) were reviewed.

Stillbirths at Term: Case Control Study of Risk Factors, Growth Status and Placental Histology.

Objective: To investigate the proportion of stillbirths at term associated with abnormal growth using customized birth weight percentiles and to compare histological placental findings both in underweight stillborn fetuses and in live births.

Methods: A retrospective case-control study of 150 singleton term stillbirths. The livebirth control groups included 586 cases of low-risk pregnancies and 153 late fetal growth restriction fetuses.

Influence of aging on the quality of the skin of white women: the role of collagen.

Purpose: Evaluate the influence of aging on the quality of the skin of white women, analyzing the dermal collagen.

Methods: Pre-auricular flaps were collected for histological and morphometric analysis of 218 white women who underwent spontaneous facial aesthetic plastic surgery. Picrosirius ultrared stain was used for analysis and quantification of collagen in five age groups (<40 years, 40 to 49 years, 50 to 59 years, 60 to 69 years and 70 to 79 years) .

A Theiler's virus BeAn strain shows a persistent profile of BHK-21 cell infection as determined by genome detection using real-time RT-PCR and expression of L* protein.

Cells from various tissues and species are able to bind to Theiler's virus strain DA and allow it to replicate to some extent. Meanwhile, permissiveness in vitro to BeAn strains has not been well investigated. In this paper, the BeAn 8386 virus was subjected to five passages in BHK-21 cells and showed a persistent profile.

Effects of different types of contingent tactile stimulation on crying, smiling, and sleep in newborns: an observational study.

Sleep, the brain and the ability to interact with the environment change a great deal over the first year of life; however, there are no studies on the possible influence of different environmental stimulations on the organization of subsequent sleep-wake cycles in infants. The hypothesis of this study was that greater continuity of contingent tactile stimulation decreases crying behavior, subsequent active sleep (AS) and its fragmentation, and increases smiling behavior and subsequent quiet sleep in newborns. Forty out of the 82 newborns (15- to 30-hr old) of the initial sample satisfied the inclusion criteria and completed the first cycle of sleep during the period between two feedings.

Effects on bladder function of combining elocalcitol and tolterodine in rats with outflow obstruction.

Unlabelled: It has previously been shown that elocalcitol might protect bladder contractile function in experimental models and that elocalcitol has beneficial effects in patients with LUTS. In humans, elocalcitol was demonstrated with a very good safety profile but only exhibited limited efficacy on LUTS in patients with BPH and overactive bladder (OAB). Recent reports show that therapies with antimuscarinics, when combined with other drugs in clinical use, might perform better than a monotherapy in managing LUTS.

Newborn preference for a new face vs. a previously seen communicative or motionless face.

Newborn infants prefer to look at a new face compared to a known face (still-face). This effect does not happen with the mother-face. The newborns could be attracted by the mother-face because, unlike the still-face, it confirms an expectation of communication.

Smiling in newborns during communicative wake and active sleep.

Many studies have investigated infant smiling behaviour during wake and active sleep. In the majority of studies authors agreed that two month-old infants exhibit social smiles. However it is not clear if newborns exhibit different kinds of smiles during wake and active sleep to two month-old infants and if the communicative context can affect the quantity and quality of these smiles.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis of the knee in skeletally immature patients.

Introduction: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign idiopathic proliferative disorder that results in villous or nodular formation in the joints, tendons sheaths, and bursae. As PVNS is a rare pathology in children, diagnosis is often delayed. In this study, we analyze the therapeutic methods used and results obtained in the treatment of this pathology.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and warfarin-induced skin necrosis: case report.

This paper describes a case of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia complicated by warfarin-induced skin necrosis in a 74-year old female patient hospitalized with diagnoses of a hip fracture, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism. Warfarin-induced skin necrosis is a rare complication of anticoagulant therapy, with high morbidity and mortality that may be associated with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
