We report a method to predict equilibrium concentration profiles of hard ellipses in nonuniform fields, including multiphase equilibria of fluid, nematic, and crystal phases. Our model is based on a balance of osmotic pressure and field mediated forces by employing the local density approximation. Implementation of this model requires development of accurate equations of state for each phase as a function of hard ellipse aspect ratio in the range k = 1-9.

Article Synopsis
  • The Co2DiaWiL is a specialized lidar system designed to simultaneously measure carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration and wind speed.
  • It uses a cooled laser setup, with the pumping laser head operating at -80°C and diode arrays at around 20°C, generating 80 mJ output pulses at up to 30 Hz frequency.
  • The system achieved 0.7% precision in CO2 measurements over a distance of up to nearly 2 kilometers and successfully measured wind speeds from distances as far as 20 kilometers, including a mountainous area 24 kilometers away.
