Lost Mary is a popular e-cigarette brand among youth in the United States. This study aimed to analyze Lost Mary's branded social media activity and assess whether marketing efforts may have contributed to its youth appeal. We conducted a content analysis of 53 Lost Mary posts published on social media platforms from 2022 to 2023.

Associations between the late positive potential and PTSD, anxiety, and depressive symptoms among trauma-exposed undergraduates.

Background: The late positive potential (LPP) is a neural marker of attention to emotional stimuli; dysregulations in those attentional processes might contribute to trauma-related psychopathology. Although higher LPP amplitudes to negative images have been found to be associated with anxiety symptoms, results have been mixed regarding depressive and PTSD symptoms, especially among trauma-exposed populations. Further, the relationships between the LPP to positive and neutral images and psychopathology symptoms have been underexamined.

Pathways from exposure to racial/ethnic discrimination to depression: Testing a social-cognitive model.

Rationale And Objective: Interpersonal racial/ethnic discrimination is a risk factor for depression across the lifespan in minoritized racial/ethnic groups. This study tests a model proposing that social cognitive processes, including relational schemas, mediate the link between discrimination and depression. Relational schemas enable individuals to form mental representations of others, reflecting prior social learning and generating expectations about future social relations.

Lay beliefs about the causes and treatment of depression: Tests of measurement models and associations.

Background: There is reason to expect beliefs about depression's causes and treatment to influence use of psychotherapy, but the literature is marked by theoretical, methodological, and empirical inconsistencies. This study assessed the factorial validity of measures of beliefs about depression's causes and formal treatment versus self-management. It also tested the links of causal attributions to general treatment/self-management beliefs and endorsement of specific interventions.

Healthy or not? The impact of conflicting health-related information on attentional resources.

Despite its ubiquity, little is known about the impact of exposure to conflicting health information on cognitive efficiency. We hypothesized that it would reduce attentional capacity, as evidenced by (1) increased response errors during the Attention Network Test (ANT), (2) decreased efficiency of each ANT system (alerting, orienting, execute control), and (3) increased self-reported workload, (4) nutritional confusion and (5) nutritional backlash. A sample of 184 online participants were assigned randomly to read an article containing either congruent or conflicting health information.

A strategic approach for investigating light recipes for 'Outredgeous' red romaine lettuce using white and monochromatic LEDs.

To optimize crop production/quality in space, we studied various "light recipes" that could be used in the Advanced Plant Habitat currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Lettuce (Lactuca sativa cv. 'Outredgeous') plants were grown for 28 days under seven treatments of white (W) LEDs (control), red (635 nm) and blue (460 nm) (RB) LEDs, W + blue (B) LEDs, W + green (520 nm) (G) LEDs, W + red (R) LEDs, W + far red (745 nm) (FR) LEDs, and RGB + FR LEDs with ratios similar to natural sunlight.

Aspergillus osteomyelitis. Report of a case and review of the literature.

Aspergillus is a ubiquitous saprophytic fungus seldom pathogenic for normal hosts. Aspergillus osteomyelitis occurs infrequently and is typically limited to patients with predisposing factors, including leukocyte dysfunction, malignancy with neutropenia, steroid or antibiotic therapy, pulmonary aspergillosis, and surgical manipulation. The spine is most frequently affected, and the clinical presentation is nonspecific (50% afebrile).

Splenic abscess complicating infectious endocarditis.

Infective endocarditis is the most common condition predisposing a patient to splenic abscess, and the conditions of 37 such patients are reviewed herein. Streptococci accounted for 18 abscesses, with six containing enterococci; 12 other contained staphylococci. Symptoms suggesting splenic abscess include abdominal distention, hiccups, and pain in the left flank, abdomen, and shoulder.

Detoxification of staphylococcal alpha toxin by hydrocortisone and methylprednisolone.

The effects of hydrocortisone (HC) and methylprednisolone (MP) on the biological activities of staphylococcol alpha toxin were studied. Incubation of either HC or MP at concentrations of 4-8 mg per ml with purified alpha toxin (690 HU per ml) reduced or eliminated haemolytic activity for rabbit red cells, intraperitoneal lethality for mice, and dermonecrotic activity for rabbits. Detoxification was related to the dose of steroid, and MP was slightly more active than HC.

Cefazolin in the treatment of pneumonia.

Cefazolin is a semi-synthetic derivative of cephalosporin C that has a lower cross-immunogenicity with penicillins than do the other cephalosporins. This agent was evaluated as an alternative to penicillin in the therapy of patients with pneumococcal pneumonia. Thirty patient were treated with cefazolin, most receiving 125 or 250 mg IM every 12 hours for 5-10 days.

Endocarditis due to Hemophilus aphrophilus: report of a case with possible transmission from dog to man.

A 44-year-old man was treated for bacterial endocarditis due to Hemophilus aphrophilus. The characteristics of the organism are reviewed, along with other cases of endocarditis. There is an association of this organism with dogs and a potential for transmission from this source to man.

Effects of serum lipid content on the binding of minocycline.

Minocycline was added to normal and hyperlipemic serum samples in concentrations of 1 approximately 10 mcg/ml. These specimens had similar protein contents. Chemically extractable minocycline was quantitated fluorometrically.

Clinical evaluation of intravenous minocycline.

24 patients with severe infections were treated with intravenous minocycline 100 mg every 12 hours. Average blood levels were within therapeutic ranges during the first 12 hours after the initial dose. Determination of efficacy of therapy in 23 of the patients who were evaluable showed that clinical and bacteriological results were satisfactory in 20 patients, unsatisfactory in 2, and questionable in 1.
