Objectives: This study uses a theoretical model to explore (a) emergency department (ED) utilization, (b) hospital admissions, and (c) office-based physician visits among sample of under-resourced African American and Latino older adults.
Methods: Nine hundred five African American and Latino older adults from an under-resourced urban community of South Los Angeles participated in this study. Data was collected using face-to-face interviews.
Unlabelled: Meta-analysis of >87,000 patients demonstrates that patients with invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast are far less likely to achieve pCR of the breast or axilla compared to their ductal counterparts, receive less BCS and more frequently return positive margins.
Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) facilitates tumour downstaging, increases breast conserving surgery (BCS) and assesses tumour chemosensitivity. Despite clinicopathological differences in Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) and Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC), decision making surrounding the use NACT does not take account of histological differences.
Tumour stromal cells support tumourigenesis. We report that Syndecan-2 (SDC2) is expressed on a nonepithelial, nonhaematopoietic, nonendothelial stromal cell population within breast cancer tissue. In vitro, syndecan-2 modulated TGFβ signalling (SMAD7, PAI-1), migration and immunosuppression of patient-derived tumour-associated stromal cells (TASCs).

Using the Andersen's Behavioral Model of Health Services Use, we explored social, behavioral, and health factors that are associated with emergency department (ED) utilization among underserved African American (AA) older adults in one of the most economically disadvantaged urban areas in South Los Angeles, California. This cross-sectional study recruited a convenience sample of 609 non-institutionalized AA older adults (age ≥ 65 years) from South Los Angeles, California. Participants were interviewed for demographic factors, self-rated health, chronic medication conditions (CMCs), pain, depressive symptoms, access to care, and continuity of care.

Despite the known benefits of physical activity participation, many people in the United States remain inactive. More specifically, physical activity behavior is socially patterned with lower participation rates among women; racial/ethnic minorities; sexual minority youth; individuals with less education; persons with physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities; individuals >65 yr of age; and those living in the southeast region of the United States.

The text is based on a lecture and workshop given at the American Physiological Society's Institute on Teaching and Learning in Madison, WI, in June 2016. After a short overview of the TBL method, its underpinning in learning theory, and a summary of current evidence for its effectiveness, we present two case studies from our own teaching practices in a new medical school.

Background: Many organizations cite the importance of peer accountability (PA) as essential in ensuring patient safety. Professionalism in nursing requires self-regulation of practice and PA.
Purpose: To assess the use of a mobile mammography unit (MMU) as it relates to race and insurance status in the largest county in Kentucky.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 48,324 screening mammograms of 21,857 patients conducted over a 10-year period. Descriptive statistics for patient age, race, and insurance status were computed by entire cohort and within subsets of cohorts.
